popcorn::wow i'm totally in!! i'm so jealous that you get to go that many times in a short period!! love the dining choices, you're off to a get start. can't wait to see if you loved tonga toast, because it is definitly my favorate breakfast item in the World:worship:!!!!!!!!

Great start! Love the Sci-Fi burgers!:thumbsup2

Thanks! Just had to try them...Before, I'd only had bad cs burgers!

We loved Sci-Fi too! One of my favorites of my trip. I had the veggie burger and DH had the cheeseburger with bacon and onions and we both really liked them. My mom really liked her chili too. I have to say though, the french fries were the best thing! They were really good.

Drat! Next time I'll definitely get the fries...though the benefit of not getting them is that I didn't eat too much!

:scared1: I missed a dining review but yay its just starting and i'm in! Thats probably one of the best shots of sci-fi i've actually seen i didn't know it looked like you were outside cool!

Thank you for the compliment! My waiter was awesome and told me this was the best place to take a picture and told me when the sci fi logo came up.

Welcome aboard!

I actually didn't do too much my first day, I didn't really do much my first day, despite being in too parks (DHS and Epcot). A late arrival met lines that were way to long and late or no fast passes for the rides I wanted to go on.

I had after 8 p.m. reservations at Flying Fish, and relaxed in my room. I had a Grand Marnier slushy that demanded I relax for a little while!:upsidedow

I got dressed in my finest and headed downstairs. I got in line behind a lovely couple at the podium who were walk ups in track pants and t-shirts who got seated at the chefs counter right away. So much for the dress code:confused3
i know enough to expect it, but, track pants, really?

Since I was a party of one, they asked if I would like the chef's counter as well and I thought that sounded good to me!

The cooks were obviously happy to see me...

As was this little fish guy...

I ordered the Pinot noir Flight to start
IMG_1802.jpg

Because it would pair nicely with what I would have for my main (PN's from new Zealand, France and Australia)

But first, and appetizer
IMG_1803.jpg

On the far right, Pont L'eveque au cidre--creamy and good
then Alp Drackloch and Manchego. I can't really remember what the accompaniments were so we'll just go off the menu: Raisins on the vine, Spanish Membrillo, Honeycomb, and Kiln-dried cranberry, and Sweet Onion and Golden Apple compote. I'll take their word for it!

IMG_1805.jpg

Bread crisps to go with it.

And more cheese
IMG_1804.jpg

The manchego again, Humboldt Fog (very strong, tasty goat cheese) and Point Reyes Blue. This is what blue cheese should taste like. Holy cow (cheese with enzymes)!

And for those who have read anything about me, I have just started to eat fish, so I took the risk and got...
redsnapper.jpg

Potato encrusted red snapper! I can't believe how much I love this! The combination of the red wine sauce and the creamy leaks was amazing. The fish was like nothing I've ever had. A very slight hint of fishiness, but very slight and it was what made everything work....

Speaking of work...I'm running late...Dessert will be posted later!

That snapper looks fabulous! I can't wait to see what you got for dessert, and...the rest of the reviews! Keep 'em comin'!

The snapper looks great - I am not really into fish but I think I could be persuaded to try that (were it not for the leeks :rotfl:)

Great start to your reviews - love your rating system :thumbsup2

That snapper is my reason for going back to FF in October for the fourth time in three years, LOVE it! Can't wait to hear about dessert.......:woohoo:

Us too! That fish is to die for, we are going back in June and Oct to scarf it down! Thank goodness DH loves the NY Strip there so I can get my fish on!

So, we left off at dessert...while I waited, I snapped this guy again.

And chatted with the lovely woman next to me. It was a great solo dining experience, since I didn't end up feeling solo. We had a great time chatting about colleges, DVC, disboards and more.

Finally dessert and another glass of wine (oops!)

A study in chocolate

IMG_1827.jpg

First up we have a chocolate crepe with Strawberry fennel compote. The crepe was interesting, but I really enjoyed the Strawberry fennel compote, strange since I am not a fan of fennel.

Second...

Rich Chocolate Mint Torta with Almond Gelato

This was by far my favorite of the three, very tasty.

and finally...

Chocolate Raspberry Mousse Delice
I have come to realize I love raspberries and I love chocolate, but this is not one of my favorite flavor combinations. (Travesty I know!) It was okay, and I ate it, and I still can not figure out exactly what delice means.

I love the trio of mini dessert concept (you'll see it again!) So I am definitely glad I go it.

And now it's time to ask the age old question:

Mirror Mirror on the wall, is Flying fish the fairest of them all?
:love::love::love::love::love: (out of 5)

This may be my favorite experience of any meal I have eaten at Disney! I had an EXTRAORDINARY waiter, who was extremely attentive and also made me feel very comfortable. I enjoyed the chef's counter experience, and would definitely try and sit there again if I were solo, or with just one other person. And the Red Snapper...i have to find a way to eat there again!

Next up will be Kona Cafe, and later on there will be one surprise that wasn't on my initial plans....

I am glad to read that you loved FF. We will be dining there in a few months but my stomach is rumbling from looking at all your photos.."hung:rolleyes1ry"

not a big fan of fish and therefore will never try flying fish but that dessert looked absolutely delicious!:thumbsup2

next one coming up quick!

MickeyNicki...your comments on a post on the restaurants board to a question I asked really helped me decide what to order. Thanks so much!

Unfortunately my BF doesn't like it there...so I may have to ditch him on one of our future trips and go solo!:rotfl2:

Get the Cheese plate and dessert...It's worth a try!

So I plotted out the best way to spend my Saturday and it involved getting to the Magic Kingdom for rope drop (my first time seeing a park open!)

One of my favorite rides is BTMR, and I wanted to make sure that I got to ride it so I decided that I had time to do that before heading over to the Poly for my 10:05 ressie at Kona. Which it turns out I did have time so much time that a thought popped in my mind after I got off BTMR:rolleyes1

The line to splash mountain was nonexistent...This is the problem with solo travel....there is no one to talk you out of bad idea! :scared:

Needless to say, I got drenched in the front seat of my log flume! And then had just enough time to make it to the poly! Hopped the monorail, and headed over.
IMG_1867.jpg

I must have made a pretty sight because the guy at the host stand didn't even speak one word to me, just handed me the little flashing vibrator guy. (It was not the best start for Kona in my book!)

It also happened to be my longest wait for any ADR, at about 20 minutes.

Ah, well I thought, i had been drooling over pictures of Tonga Toast for months!

I ordered, and waited and looked around...I loved the decor (though it reminds me nothing of Kona, HI)
IMG_1876.jpg

It didn't take long for it to show up on my table in all it's glory.

tongatoast.jpg

This was actually better than I expected! The bananas tasted fresh, and the toast wasn't overly greasy!

IMG_1878.jpg

It came with this stuff...I am not a fan of the strawberry compote, and stuck with plain old syrup and butter.

I also had a great waitress at Kona. Very pleased with her.

So, time again:

Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, will Kona Cafe take a fall?
:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc (out of 5)

I really liked Kona Cafe, but it didn't blow me out of the water. I loved the tonga toast, but the bacon (which I asked for extra crisp, almost burnt was no where near that.) I had a great server, but was kind of turned off by the way I was treated by the host. (I had dried off pretty significantly and I don't think he could tell, so I doubt it was that!)

It wasn't as comfortable as a solo diner as the previous restaurants, but I would definitely eat there again solo, or not...can't wait to try lunch or dinner.

dinner at Kona is just as amazing as breakfast... it is definitly top 3 disney restaurants for me!!:worship:

just found your review/report, cant wait to read and see more!

mm tonga toast looks good.. i opted for the macademia nut pancakes when I went... and I sympathize on the liking crisp bacon and getting flimsy stuff.. just doesn't cut it!

Great reviews and I love the rating system!!!

Looking forward to your upcoming trips!popcorn::

Those chocolate desserts at FF look sublime :thumbsup2

Sorry you weren't that blown away by Kona Cafe - you've got me craving Tonga Toast now though ;)

You definitely aren't the only one who doesn't like raspberry and chocolate together. I hate that combination in every form...
