HHI in April - 7 month window

We are in the process of buying resale and will have some points that will be expiring next July. We had not planned on going back to WDW until November 2009. We have considered going back next June so we don't lose the points, but I honestly about burnt up this past June (we usually go in November and January and prefer the weather then). Anyway, I started thinking about maybe using the points that will expire for a studio at HHI in April during our spring break. But I would be booking at 7 months or less (depending on when we close - we are waiting on ROFR now). Is that a difficult time to book at HHI for a studio?

We went to HHI in April this year and had no problem booking a studio at 7 months out. But check your weeks - we were there for Jersey Week so the resort was quite crowded!

Other than that it was a great time of year to be there. Enjoy!

We were there the third week of April - temps were in the upper 70's, low 80's. Fine for swimming, very comfortable for walking around.

Swimming in the pools is fine -- I've seen people doing it in January. Sometimes it's the getting OUT of the pool that's a bit chilly.

The ocean may be a little cool in April. Sitting out on the beach may be nice, but the water hasn't had a chance to warm up yet.

How many points will you have to "burn"?

All things considered it is a mild month with low precipitation, mild air temps, and cool ocean temps. Great for bicycling and walking/jogging around, pool swimming. A bit cool for ocean swimming or sunbathing on the beach.

Thanks everybody! It is about a 4 hour drive from where we are so if we can get it, it will work out perfectly. And then we can go to WDW in November when it is cooler. Now I just have to get closed and get on the system and try to get it.

But check your weeks - we were there for Jersey Week so the resort was quite crowded!

We went to HH over our kid's spring break in 2007. It was not difficult to book. I started with a 2 BR and added a studio later for a friend to join us.

The weather, however, was very, very chilly. For my DH and his friend it was superb golfing weather. For the kids and I it was freezing! We were the only ones at the beach house and only went in that pool once. We were the only ones who rented chairs at the beach! Most folks swam back at the resort where there wasn't as much wind.

But besides the temp, we had a wonderful vacation and I would go back there. It was just an off week for the temps.

Ok, have to ask. When is Jersey week? We just booked a Grand Villa for our spring break week the 2nd week of April.

Not in a million years would I get in a body of water with a temperature in the 70's!!!

Of course I am from Florida and my daughter will tell you that ANY body of water is too cold for me!

We were at HHI in May of this year and I only jumped in the pool once or twice (had to try to slide with my kids!).

I like my pools and other bodies of water near the temp of bath water!! 70 will just not cut it for me!! But then, I am not much of an ocean swimmer. Mom used to make me gargle salt water for sore throats. Now, salt water makes me gag! But I sure like to walk in the surf and relax to the sound of the ocean!

Thanks again everybody. We figure we will not be getting into the ocean in April at HHI but figured the kids would still be able to play in the sand. I have been looking online for things to do to get an idea if there would be enough to keep us occupied.

The campfires were the best. We took a boat out dolphin hunting, but didn't see many. But the boat ride was fun. We could have gone crabbing, but didn't get a chance. We rode bikes. We found lots of great restaurants....not that I can remember any of them, but I'm sure my DH can. He uses chowhound and we have great luck. We found lots of places to go shopping and got some great buys that time of year on bathing suits for my teens. The walks on the beach despite the wind and temps were fun as well. We found the area to be so peaceful. We were never, ever bored and at that time I had a DD18, a DD16 and a DD7.

FYI - we flew in and out of Charleston and stayed overnight just outside the city. We only spent one night and day there, but wished we had planned for a longer stay. The city was lovely and we barely got to see any of it. But we found a farmer's market on Saturday on the green and picked up some veggies and unbelievable strawberries, found some great dresses for my teens downtown and had two great meals there. We'd love to go back for a long weekend there coupled with a 2nd trip to HH.

We wanted to go into Savannah, but never found the time. That's a bit of drive as well....but it can be done.

I googled HH long before we went and signed up for emails from a few sites. I got several planning guides in the mail.

So much to do....so little time. Have fun planning.

Just read the trip report for the HH visit. There is a list of printed activities for each day of your trip. When you get to HH you sign up for the activities for the week. I suspect the activities are different for April than for July, but I remember that my DD then 7 did a craft project every day with the CM's. There are fees for some of these. Having the small food store and fast food on site was great as well.
