We're just back from our fourth annual October trip to HH. Just a quick report:

THE GOOD:
Just about everything was great, as usual, starting with the "welcome home" at the gate. We had really great weather - sunny with temps in the mid-70s to low 80s all week. Slept with the porch doors open most nights - no bugs.

B'lew Crabbe has a new tales of HH & Ghosts that he did one evening by the play area. Dolphin cruise was wonderful - most we've ever seen at one time. They were chasing fish, stunning them by whacking their dolphin tails, and then surfacing to catch the stunned fish.

The restaurant at the beach house is now staying open 11 - 3. I was told it was to be year round, and not closing seasonaly as in past years.

New naturalist again, but he seems ok. Kathy was great with the young kids at the campfires.

One bedroom unit 1216 was clean, in good repair, with just two carpet stains. All supplies / dishes / etc. seemed in place.

THE BAD:
Not much. We were in building 12 at the end near the housekeeping building and were awakened at 6:30 AM one morning when a trash truck came to collect the dumpster and kept the "beep, beep, beep" of the alarm going for about ten minutes. On the other hand, there was great musical entertainment from across the harbor (non-Disney) that we could hear from our porch each evening.

No High Speed Internet service or Wi-Fi. I really missed that. Dial-up is sloooow.

They ran out of cookies at the Lodge by 4:00 PM one afternoon. I'll have to go earlier in the future.

THE SAD:
The place seemed only about 30% occupied. Way underutilized. Maybe they need to rebalance the points charts to get the place used more. It must be tough for the cast when only 6 - 12 people show up for an event.

Hi,

Glad you had a good time!!! When we were there it was 80% to 74% full. This was 10-11 through the 13th.

Cap...thanks for a very good review of your recent trip. I think you did a great job of summarizing some of your observations. :)

HH is always going to be a somewhat seasonal resort, I think. For the sake of those who own there, I'd hate to see them raise the summer points to make the winter more attractive. The ones who bought there no doubt want to most often go in those highly sought after summer months.

It sounds like you had a great trip...and thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

New Naturalist?

What happened to Chris? We really liked him.

Actually, naturalist Chris has not been around for some time. Bryan was the naturalist at HH for the past couple of years (much better than Chris, IMHO).

Good for him, sadly for us, he's gone on to graduate school.

We're looking forward to meeting the new naturalist on our next visit.

Kind regards,

I thought Chris had just started a few months ago! So what's the name of the naturalist now?

Chris (or Christopher as I've read him referred to here) was in the process of taking over for Bryan when we were there in July. I wonder if there's confusion over two Chris'??

We were there in September and Christopher was the new naturalist. He was wonderful. We took some friends and my girlfriend said that CHirstopher's presentation of Mission to Mars is what sold her on Hilton Head.

There is only one Christopher or Chris. He started a few weeks before Bryan left at the end of July.

I guess it depends on how you define "not a long time", LOL!!

Ok, I'm clear now:confused:

Is Chris still there, when you referred to the new naturalist? We thought he was fabulous and I would hate to see him leave so quick.

My mistake. I thought you were talking about the HH naturalist who preceeded Bryan. Sorry.
