Hey! all you fitness folks, where are my endorphins?

I don't get the endorphin rush, but the jogging does get easier and more enjoyable with time. Plus being thinner is a great incentive.

There are studies that show that group exercise makes you produce more endorphins than solo exercise.
I teach spinning -so I plug that.
Some people are really loving the Zumba
Even walking or running with a friend might help
I agree with the others who suggested a goal. We did the tower of terror 5K and running through DHS at night was a blast.
Good luck

Being active and leading ahealthy lifestyle is tough when you start out, and it stays tough until it becomes routine. Stick with it though, the benefits far out weigh not being active/make healthy lifestyle choices. I say "being active" because there's all sorts of stuff you can do that isn't in a gym. Do what is right for you.

I joined Sparkpeople.com about 5 years and 10lbs ago. I took off the weight and kept it off. It's a lifestyle approach and being active is just one part. Maybe give the website a shot. Anything that will get you motivated, like a great playlist, keep going back to it.

As for the endorphones high, for me, it is connected to how I feel when I go in (mentally and emotionally), what I think about when I'm working out, and how I feel when I leave. If I mentally prep for a hard workout, and honestly give all I can give, then I feel great leaving. Sometimes I am tired, sometimes I am juiced. Conversly when I cheat or give 75%, I don't feel as good afterwards.

palmtreegirl, way to stick with it! Keep at it!

Everyone can be active, choose what you enjoy and what works for you :-)

I hate it too. I did join a gym but only because it is a block from my office and I can hit it on my way home in the evening. Also it only cost me about $14 a month. Got a deal through my insurance company (hear that Obama?) I only do the treadmill though. My thighs are already big enough that the eliptical will make me look like a linebacker. No endorphins for me except maybe once or twice. I listen to sports channels or jeopardy. Now that baseball has started that will keep me more interested.

I think when we get into a routine we start 'phoning it in.' To get endorphins you really have to push yourself and change things up. If you can have a conversation you're not working hard enough.

I'm not a 'this is fun' exerciser but once I get going I get into it and I love how it makes me feel. It may have sucked while I was doing it but I feel so proud that I made it through. I sleep better, look better and have more energy. All worth it to me.

I just think you need to find an exercise that works for you that you ENJOY. My thing is swimming and biking, but I also love my elliptical. My husband hates swimming, but will do it with me when I'm on breaks (I normally do it at the university a few times a week when classes aren't in there). He thinks the elliptical is the devil.

His thing is a treadmill/walking/lifting weights. We each have our own "thing" that helps us maintain a decent weight.

Find what is right for YOU.
