Hi all, going to Hershey in a few weeks as a last minute trip with another family.... unlike Disney, Hershey does not have awesome info on its site!

If anyone is a season pass holder or you go often, give me your best tips! W will be there 2 days and I think we want to do the water park part!

Any info on food options will also be greatly appreciated!

thanks so much!

Are you sure your on the hershey park website? It has everything listed, right down to the meal plans and all. Make sure your on www.hersheypark.com. It will give you a list of hours, their tickets and pricing (which you can order online), the different places to eat, their meal plans, etc. Great website!

That's the site I was on. I honestly don't find it very informative :confused3 although, maybe I'm just used to the disboards? Also, I really would love to know what food places to avoid and any insider tips and what not. I looked at the map of Hershey, but if I have never been so I do not know what food places to avoid, rides to possibly ski if not that great, etc... Just disboards insider tips in general :goodvibes

I love the waterpark and find that doing it first thing is the best way to go...otherwise it gets very, very crowded. I also recommend going to HP during the week...Wednesday is always a good day. Def. check out the meal plan...I think last year we did it and got a meal along with a souvenir cup for $12.75...this was a great deal. To tell you the truth the food in the park is not all that great and very expensive, but the meal plan made it a little more affordable and getting the souvenir cup with $1.00 refills made it awesome!

If you are looking to leave the park for lunch I highly recommend Devon Grill...they have amazing food and the $10 power lunch cannot be beat! They are a little more upscale though so depending it may not be what you are looking for.

I live within 20 mins of Hersheypark and I am in that area for most of the winter for hockey games...

It has been a couple of years since I have been to the park for a day or had a season pass. The best thing that I knew that they had when I was going was getting the refillable mug. The cost up front is a little high for a plastic cup, but you can get it refilled at a signifiant discount during the day and the rest of the season. If you need an escape from the park and the heat, go over to Chocolate World and go through the chocolate tour ride. If you are a big roller coaster fan, I would hit those first. My favorite ride in the park is the Great Bear!!! It is the inverted roller coaster. It is very smooth.
There are many different restaurants in the area that are local and not chain restaurants...Just PM me and I will give you the list of them.

We're HP regulars. Here are my suggestions -

1 - If you have the option, visit before July 4. Tuesday-Thursday is the least crowded.
2 - If you plan to do the Boardwalk (water) area, go there immediately on arrival. It's toward the back of the park, so don't linger or stop to do "just this one ride" or you'll be part of a VERY large crowd.
3 - Food is overpriced, just as at Disney, but the variety and quality can be decent. Best value for a family is the whole pizza at Famigilia, or Mixed Grill and Tumbleweed Tacos in the Pioneer Frontier section.
4 - If you need to cool off for a meal, try the Minetown Restaurant or the Subway in the Pioneer Frontier section.
5 - Definitely get the souvenier mug to get $1 refills, best deal going. Know that, like Disney, any counterservice place will give you a free cup of icewater.
6 - Also like Disney, the earlier you arrive the better in terms of lines. The Fahrenheit, Great Bear and Comet tend to draw the longest lines.

We've had season passes for the past 4 years and love Hersheypark. When are you going? The earlier in the season, the less full the park will be. July and August are extremely busy times, so if you are going then, try to visit on a weekday.

If you can swing the cost ($250), the cabanas are really nice. You get anytime access to the lazy river - on a hot day, the line for this attraction can get very long, so having anytime access can be a lifesaver. You also get a refrigerator stocked with drinks, towels (which you can keep), suntan lotion, and access to a private food station (food costs extra, but they will bring it to your cabana to eat), changing rooms and all the fountain drinks you want. Again, especially if you are going in July or August, check them out. If you are not staying onsite, you can only book a cabana a week in advance. I always call first thing in the morning, exactly a week in advance and have always been able to get one. We've done this three times and I never regretted paying the money.

As for park rides, Storm Runner is my favorite. Lines are shorter early in the day and move fairly fast. If you have the patience, try the front seat - it is worth the extra wait. Fahrenheit (the newest coaster) typically has the longest waits and this line tends to go the slowest. Often it takes some time after the park opens for them to start running these two coasters. The Great Bear is my kids' favorite. They typically open this ride within 15 minutes of park opening, so we usually head here first, then Storm Runner and then Fahrenheit (if the line isn't too long). Don't overlook the Wild Mouse - it looks like a kiddie coaster, but its quick turns are a lot of fun. Lightning Racer is also a lot of fun - dual coasters racing to the finish. For a wooden coaster, the ride is fairly smooth. The Wildcat is my least favorite coaster in the park - it is wooden and fairly jerky. If you want a smoother ride, sit towards the front.

As for food, my kids like the indoor cafeteria near the entrance to the zoo. If it is a hot day, this is a great place to go and cool down. Food ranges from chicken fingers and fries to tacos and salads. Prices are high, but not unbearable.

If your kids are younger, they might enjoy a walk through the zoo - free with admission to the park. There's a walking bridge at the back of the park that takes you to the zoo. The animals are all native to North America, so you won't find Elephants or giraffes. But they have some pretty cool animals.

The sea lion show is fun if you need to sit down a bit and take a break. They also usually have other shows, but the shows change every year and I haven't checked out this year's shows yet.

Also take the Chocolate World tour. The tour is free and they give you a piece of chocolate at the end. In this same building is a "make your own chocolate bar" attraction. It's fun, although it does cost extra.

If you have any questions, send them my way. I'd be happy to answer them. (I need to "pay it forward" to all of those who answered my Cedar Point questions over the last couple of months. We went there last weekend and had a blast. Thanks for the tips everyone!)

We go 1-2 times a year so hopefully this helps.

The waterpark is a nice addition, but note it is not a full scale stand alone waterpark OR a Disney type water park. It doesn't take much for it to fill up. There might be lines for the wave pool because and lazy river because they only let so many people in at a time. There is also minimal shade.

Now we usually go for just a day, so we usually hit some of the big coasters early. We hit the waterpark late morning for awhile. Then we walk out to the car and eat. We usually bring in subs and chips and stuff. They have picnic areas in the parking lot. Sometimes we even leave to go eat offsite. The food in Hershey is nowhere near as good quality as Disney and the prices are high. We go to Disney 2X a year and feel the prices are fairly reasonable...Hershey's are ridiculous!

Then we usually hit Chocolate World on our way back in. We also usually do Zoo America in the afternoon. It is a nice break from the heat and we like animals. We usually grab snacks for dinner and by that point the lines start to shorten a bit. So we do some rides before heading home.

We like Hershey but it is an exhausting park with all the hills!

Wow! Thank you all so much! Exactly what i was looking for! The drink cup is great to know!

we will be there 2 says. Leaving Saturday morning June 18 and returning Sunday night. We live about 2, maybe 3 hours away. Is that enough time to do and see most things? I really wanted to see the museum, and make your own hershey bar.. otherwise I know NADA about this place lol!

Thanks for the info about the water park..had no clue it was in the park already.. Not sure why, but I wear this trip is way harder to plan than Disney!!

Keep the tips coming!

Also, are there any chains around hershey? I'm thinking maybe for dinner? red robin or something of that nature!

Thanks again!

Yes, there is actually a Red Robin and Wendy's right next door to the park (near the outlet mall). There are also some more chain type restaurants down the opposite direction towards the hospital. I don't usually go that way but I do know there is a pizza hut.

What I think might work for your family (and save some money!) is to come in on Saturday and do the extra outside the park stuff that afternoon. Like Chocolate World, the museum, etc. Then you can buy your park tix that night and do the free preview night. If you purchase a 1 day admission for the next day, they let you into the park around 6 or 7 (I am not 100% sure what time, but around there) for free. You should be able to do quite a few rides that way. Then you will have the whole next day to hit the waterpark and other rides.

Has anyone eaten at the Circular Dining Room? I have a late brunch booked for Father's Day for the test drive for DH. I was wondering if the food is worth it? It looks very nice and might be our splurge for the trip.

Yes, going the opposite direction on Hersheypark Drive, away from Red Robin and Wendy's there is a Bob Evans, Isaacs, Applebee's, Pizza Hut, McDonalds's. I think there may be one or two more chain restaurants, but I can't remember what they are. We also like to eat at Houlihan's along Rt. 422 directly in front of the Park, near the entrance to Zoo America. There is also a small Italian restaurant called Fenicci's on Rt. 422 near Houlihan's. Obviously, this isn't a chain restaurant, but it is delicious. We frequent it often.

Ooooh...huh..what? Can you explain this a little bit more..and then make an itinerary and budget spread sheet. Thanks :lmao::rotfl:

Thank you everyone for all the info! If you ever need any Disney help, I'm 100 % awesome at that... go figure!

I live about 15 minutes away, too.

1. On the day you go to the waterpark, go early, and once in the park, go to straight to the water area. Pass every other ride and food stand. Just keep on walking, don't stop!

2. Go to chocolate world. There, you can buy your tix for the make your own candy bar $15/person. You can also buy tix there for the museum, and a shuttle bus will pick you up right there.

3. The best food area is near the sidewinder. Its a outside food court area. You can get burgers, fries, wraps, subs, tacos, hot dogs, smoothies, ice cream there. Really good wraps and salads there.

I will be at Hershey next weekend with my Girl Scout troop.

I am nervous because we have girls who do rides and some that don't. Is there much to do for the non-riders??

There are lots of easy rides-- kissing tower, antique cars, the zoo, on the one side. Lots of easy rides when you first walk in, carosel, balloons, etc.

You'll be fine!

FOr the waterpark, make sure that everyone is in swimsuits. My kids had on nylon shorts and were removed from the water area.....it was not a good day :(

Also, Giant markets sells discount tickets. They were running a special that gave a free parking pass, not sure if that is still going on.

In chocolate world, the 3D movie is really great and worth the few bucks.

Have fun!

It can be pricey, depending on your budget, but I HIGHLY recommend renting a private cabana at the water park, for the day. We did it last year and it cost about $280/day and for that, you get unlimited soda/water, a beach bag, enough beach towels for everyone in your party, sunscreen (all to keep), private access to the lazy river, a locker and of course, a cabana and lounge chairs. It becomes your base throughout the day, where you can return to get drink refills and an uncrowded shady spot.

We also did the "Make your own candy bar" at the Hershey Museum, NOT the one at the visitors center (that one is too crowded and chaotic, IMO).
We really liked this activity and the chocolate bars were delicious!

We like the 3D movie and trolley ride, both at the visitors center. The movie is one of my kids' favorites.

Bring your patience and wallet. The gift store is large and features newly released and unusually sized chocolates. There are always hoards of people to wade through there, but the chocolate is worth it!!!

Don't forget the chocolate tour at the visitors center. It's free and educational.

how many people can fit in a cabana? We have 13 in our group.

You can have up to 7 people in one cabana. The price is $250 for the first 4 and then $25 a person for up to three more. So you'd need 2 cabanas for 13 people.
