My DH has told me for years that time-shares weren't great b/c we'd never want to vacation somewhere that often. Now that we've been to WDW once, we're thinking that we'll definetely be back!

Well...we stayed at the Contemporary and loved being on the monorail line. I'm not sure how well we'd like staying somewhere that wasn't on the monorail. Would it be better for us to just stay at the CR when we go or is there a way for us to stay there as DVC members?

There is a way for you to stay at the CR with DVC points, but its not worth it. It takes to many points......There are other DVC resorts that are either walking distance to a theme park or boat ride. VWL is close to the CR and just a boat ride away from MK. Both the BWV and BCV are walking distance or boat ride to either Epcot or MGM. There also has been rumors floating around about part of the Contemporary being a DVC resort....if it does happen that would be a few years away.

Look at your CR stay and how much it cost for your accomodations only and compare that with a buy into DVC. You may find that after 5 stays at CR you could have owned a nice chunk of points with DVC and never have to pay for your accomodations again.

There is also trade out with Interval Intn'l. I have never done this but there are some pretty cool vacations you can take with your Disney points.

For me my DW was not to keen on the idea...but we talked and bought BWV. She had never been there....so after our first visit she absolutely loved the area and would stay no place else. Just think a 10 minute walk and your in Paris, France.......

Good Luck.....keeping asking those questions

For the time being if you really like the monorail resorts you will have to reserve a room using Disney's Central Reservations unit. There is a lot of rumors in the mill of a new Contemporary DVC resort to be built.

Now as far as DVC, I would buy now and take advantage of lower prices. If you wait until something is built the price per point will certainly increase. I suggest you call Disney and be placed on a waiting list for one of the sold out resorts like the Beach Club, the Boardwalk, the Villas at Wilderness Lodge or the Old Key West Resort, and buy there. You can even buy them from a reseller for less than what Disney will charge you. If you need a specific month, or resort, and can't wait for one to show up on a reseller's website, then I suggest you buy a Disney package. But whatever you do, buy now if you are even remotely considering DVC. Historically the prices go up at least once per year, so buying now will guarantee you wonderful vacations for your future.

I also suggest you rent a villa from a member. There are many who rent their points our on the DVC rent/trade forum. If you tell someone the resort you want, the dates, and the size villa you need, someone will accommodate you. In this way you can test drive a membership. Once ensconsed inside a DVC one, or two, bedroom villa you will never go back to the Contemporary!!!

Please email or PM me if you have any questions or concerns. I have been an owner for a long time and maybe I can help you make a decision.

Normally, I'd never advocate making a decision like this based on a rumor, but since you specifically mentioned that you like the CR and want to stay there as a DVC member....

I'd sit tight for another couple of weeks. The rumor is that DVC villas at the Contemporary will be announced in early October. The price per point will certainly be higher than SSR, but in your case I think it's worth waiting to see what happens. If the prices are too high for your taste, you can always pick up a resale for another DVC resort.

It's a big decision, no need to rush it. :)

I think it is very common for a resort to "imprint" itself onto guests, especially if they had a really outstanding first WDW visit. All of a sudden, that resort becomes part of that experience and you think you will always want to stay only there.

For us, it was that way with WL. When they started selling VWL, we jumped in. But since then, we've stayed at other DVC resorts and see the charm and attraction of each one.

I guess what I'm saying is that even though you really liked being on the monorail line, you might find that you also enjoy other resort locations as well. Still, if your heart's set on a monorail resort, you should probably hold on off DVC until one is announced. Good luck. :)

We like our DVC as much as anyone, and really enjoy our 2 bedroom villas. That said I would never visit Disney World without wanting to stay at the Grand Floridian. DVC will never replace that desire.

If you really like the Contemporary at this time DVC is not a good purchase if you plan to use it for stays there.

However as said, DVC might come to the Contemporary. I would think we would know something one way or the other by the end of the year.

Agreed. I thought I was a MK girl - Poly preferrably, but we'd take the GF, Contemporary, or WL (love the WL theming!) Bought BWV because it was the right resale contract at the right price - having never been to the area before. And we can't imagine not being able to walk in and out of Epcot each trip!

i.e. I wouldn't assume that the Contemporary is the perfect resort for you until you've tried some others. BTW, I also wouldn't buy DVC after a first WDW visit. WDW is cool, and people here are addicts. But burnout does happen. Rent some points. Go back a few times. Sprinkle in another vacation destination and see if you spend it say "it isn't Disney." Decide if this is a lifestyle choice for you or not.

It's always nice to have a favorite hotel to return to...but part of the adventure @ WDW for us is trying new resorts. That's why we like the flexibility of DVC. There are several to choose from that have been designed to create a special experience with everything from the architecture to the fabrics used. We waited to purchase almost seven years after taking our initial tour -- I could kick myself for not buying at the lower price. As mentioned previously in this thread, do a little research based on what you normally pay when making ressies thru CRO and compare that to the cost of a DVC membership. BTW, DVC is one of the few "timeshares" that has appreciated. Many existing members have been twice blessed as they've had years of wonderful vacations *and* end up selling their memberships for more than they paid, if and when they decide it's no longer a good fit for their family.

P.S. That dangling carrot in the form of new villas at the Contemporary can't hurt either, eh?
