"Her Name Was Definitely Mary". Our 1st anniversary trip, May 2011 *NEW 9/6

Oh man! I would have been so stressed about the tour starting without me too if I had been there. Especially since it was pre-paid and pretty expensive!

I would love to do that tour but the price is just a little too high right now for us. We did the Keys to the Kingdom tour last May and LOVED it! Our tour guide was excellent. He was fun and interesting and very knowledgable. But I would love to see backstage at the other parks too though. Maybe one day, hopefully!

I am TIRED! Just got back from NYC where I went wedding gown shopping with a friend. It was a lot of fun, and she found a dress!
We ended up doing the 'Running of the Brides', without the running part- we got there at 11am, well after the first wave of people. It was still very overwhelming! We were there for 3 hours, and she tried on at least 30 dresses.
It was great to bond with some of the other bridesmaids, and got me really excited for the rest of the wedding planning stuff :goodvibes

I would have been so stressed that morning worrying about getting to Epcot! I think this is the main reason that we don't take the Disney transportation very often. It's too much of a loss of control for me. If we have somewhere we have to be I am always so worried that we would be late if we took a bus. I'm so glad you made it to Epcot in time, though! And I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the tour. The parade at AK looks like fun. :goodvibes

We have never thought twice about using WDW transport... but with all our snafus this trip, I am now a little unsure. Part of it had to do with just how far Kidani is from most of the parks...

Awww, that's too bad bad about the stressful start to the day but I am glad you enjoyed the tour, it has always intrigued me!

As for the guide, you would think that for the amount of money people shell out for that tour that they would make sure that they had one of their top notch people leading who not only would have great customer service skills and charisma but also the knowledge to answer guests questions! I would be a bit upset if I got a guide who couldn't even get the resort correct! :headache: At least you guys enjoyed yourselves and you got to see some neat behind the scenes things. :thumbsup2

The tour really was worth doing. The other guests on the tour seemed to all be quite casual Disney fans (which seemed weird to me- I would have thought folks on this tour would be more Disney Freaks than I am!) so his level of knowledge was probably just fine for them.

What a stressful morning!!! I am glad it worked out! The parade in AK is one of my favorites.... so whimsical. Very cool you got to go to WL. I appreciate the pics you took there. :goodvibes

That parade was great- those floats are kind of amazing!

Ugh, I would have been in a panic too! Thinking you are late in Disney is never a good thing! I don't think I could ever rely on the Disney buses, I'd probably give myself a stroke, worrying about timing everything properly!

The tour sounds like fun! Isn't my Wilderness Lodge so beautiful? I love WCC, it's so good! :cool1:

Watching the parade at AK looks fun!

Yes, and I thought of you while poking around the WL! I can see why you love it, for sure!

I have always wanted to do a tour like that, glad to hear that you guys had a good time! I would be a little frustrated with the tour guide not being prepared though, especially being in that position, they should really know that stuff :confused3

I am very uncomfortable in cabs too..I just feel weird riding in them, can't explain!

I've never met anyone else with a cab aversion! Glad to know I am not alone in that.

Ack-- I love the Disney buses, but I would have been freaking out that morning! I HATE when they come so irregularly! I'm glad you were on time and all was well, though!
Glad you enjoyed the tour! A tour guide who doesn't known a ton about Disney is kind of weird...almost like he memorized the tour stuff because it was his job, but doesn't really know DISNEY.

It was so stressful! And a theme for the trip... but I have always loved the buses in the past.

That is exactly how this guide was. It was like this was just an extra shift he picked up, and he did what he had to do.

I literally felt your stress as you explained the minutes ticking by. I would have been freaking out! I'm so glad you made it in time! Phew! I would have a hard time giving up a day of our vacation, I think I would have to be in WDW for at least 10 full days to fit in a tour like that. But, DH and I love to spend time by the pool as well.

P.S. The Starring Rolls Cafe in HS has iced coffee and with a shot of syrup and some creamer-it was delicious! Yum! I know there are stands in Epcot that sell iced coffee as well. Even AK has a tea stand that sells frozen Chai!

Because this was our second long trip in less than a year, we had the time to do it. But it was hard to take a whole day out for it!

We did visit a stand or two around the parks for iced coffee. But compared to how easily we can come by it around here, getting it in WDW was tough!

Omg that was a close one! I know I definetley would have been freaking out also. We missed the ME that was supposed to take us back to the airport on our last day and had to wait for the next one. I was freaking out like crazy!

Missed ME?! At least they schedule for a super early pick up, so it worked out ok!

Oh man! I would have been so stressed about the tour starting without me too if I had been there. Especially since it was pre-paid and pretty expensive!

Ben and I still want to to the Keys to the Kingdom tour. It seems to focus on different stuff in the MK than what we saw with the Backstage Magic tour.

Oh my goodness! 30 dresses?! I don't miss the endless dresses we looked at for dd's wedding.

Yikes, not a good start to the morning but glad you made it in time :) Sounds like it was a great tour, WL does look gorgeous and peaceful :)

Yes! 30, at least! It was insane... but she found a great dress in the end!

It ended up being a great day!

Once the tour was over, we were dropped off back at Epcot around 4:30pm. We headed back to Kidani Village. Ben threw a load of laundry in (which was free! A studio doesn’t have laundry in room, but the machines in the laundry room were free since we were staying at a DVC resort. Yay!) And we headed to the pool. Instead of spending a bunch of money on drinks at the pool bar, we got had some rum and juice in our refillable mugs.

After about an hour, the laundry was done and we headed back to our room to shower and get ready for dinner. Our plan had been to eat at Big River Grille on the Boardwalk, but we were too hungry to wait. So we walked over to Jambo House to visit the Mara again. It was over here that I fell in love with a food...
I can’t remember what we ordered because the side of cous cous rocked my socks off. This stuff was amazing. I could eat pounds of it!
I do have pictures; even though I can’t tell you what they are (I didn’t write it down this time…)

I thought I’d be thorough and take a picture of my water :)

IMG_5321.jpg

I couldn’t resist a pack of Zebra Domes, either. Ben isn’t really into sweets, so I got most of them!

IMG_5322.jpg

That's Ben waiting for our food!

After our delicious cous cous with a side of something else, it was time to start our journey to the Boardwalk. We were finally going to visit Jellyrolls! I figured we’d just get on which ever park bus came first. So, when an Epcot bus arrived, we hopped aboard.

IMG_5331.jpg

Before too long, we were at the front of Epcot and had to figure out where Boardwalk’s bus was. Huh, didn’t see it anywhere. Then it hit me: “Uh… Oh, I bet there isn’t a bus cause you can walk to Epcot from the Boardwalk.”
I proceeded to get very annoyed at myself, and then I got mad at Ben for not getting annoyed. I actually accused him of “purposely not getting mad to make me get madder.” Yeah, I got a little nuts-o there. I was just so frustrated to be experiencing transportation snafu #3… and I was convinced that by the time we got to Jellyrolls it would be really crowded and we wouldn’t have any fun. Did I mention that we didn’t have park admission this day because of the tour? Grrrr.

But then Ben snapped me out of it, and suggested we just go through Epcot to get there. He rationally pointed out that it would only be $5 to add a day to our tickets for the end of the trip and it would be worth it just to avoid the hassle of going to another park when we were so close to our destination. Luckily, it was just a bit before 9, and Epcot was still open! We literally walked through the gates, and headed straight for the International Gateway. We took this one picture as we walked by to prove we were in Epcot:
IMG_5333.jpg

We got to Jellyrolls a bit after 9, and it was almost totally empty. Ben couldn’t help but make fun of me for being so worried about not getting a seat. Now that the drama of getting here was over, we were able to relax and enjoy the awesomeness of Jellyrolls!

By 10:30, the place was pretty crowded, and stayed that way the rest of the night. The piano players were hilarious and incredibly talented- they could play anything at all! Ben and I regretted that we hadn’t thought to bring any cash, so we didn’t make any song requests (requests are written on a napkin and placed on the pianos with a tip). Next time, we’ll make sure to remember to bring cash!

We left Jellyrolls at about midnight, and headed to the Boardwalk’s bus stop. Before leaving, I had read on the DISboards that there would be buses to the other resorts. I can’t say if this was true or not, because a Downtown Disney bus was waiting at the stop, so we just got on it to transfer to Kidani. Amazingly, the AKL bus was waiting for us when we got there! We were exhausted, but had a great day!

What a great day! Your transportation snafu is just the type of thing that would get me totally upset only to have there be an easy fix in the end. I am glad there was such a way for you. :goodvibes

The pictures of you two from that night are great! :thumbsup2 I can't wait to try out Jellyrolls now. It sounds like you guys had a great time!

Jellyrolls looks like fun and great pics of you two, you looks so cute :cutie:

I think the DTD bus being there and then the AKL one waiting was to make up for the transportation snafu you had at the beginning of the evening :)

I always forget that those resorts don't have a bus from EPCOT...so I would have made the same mistake myself :headache: Glad that you guys figured it out though and were able to get a good seat and enjoy :thumbsup2 I have always wanted to check out Jellyrolls...but I am usually exhausted when I get done all day at the park :lmao:

Jellyrolls sounds like so much fun--I think that might have to be our next date night in Disney! :)

I actually accused him of “purposely not getting mad to make me get madder.” Yeah, I got a little nuts-o there.

OMG...:rotfl: I think we might actually be the same person! I say things like that to my DH all the time! :rotfl2:

Anyway, Jellyrolls looks like so much fun! I actually went to a place like that for my bachelorette party in New Haven, and it was fun, but I have a feeling it's more fun in Disney World! I'll have to try to get to the Boardwalk one night, maybe after an Epcot night or something!

I really got pretty upset- it seemed like such a problem! But you're right- there was an easy fix!

The pictures of you two from that night are great! :thumbsup2 I can't wait to try out Jellyrolls now. It sounds like you guys had a great time!

So much fun!! We are definitely going back next trip- and we may even stay at Boardwalk to make it easier ;)

Jumping on board a bit late, but loving the report so far!

Thanks for joining in! You're not late- I'm slow, so there's plenty more to come

Oh no! Not another transportation snafu!

It was a theme this trip!

Jellyrolls looks like fun and great pics of you two, you looks so cute :cutie:

You know, you're right! Now that I think about it, good transportation mojo usually happened after one of our snafus...

It's worth it to take it a little easy someday and save some energy for Jellyrolls; it's a great time!

Jellyrolls sounds like so much fun--I think that might have to be our next date night in Disney! :)

Good plan! :thumbsup2

The similarities are piling up!

Visiting Boardwalk after Epcot is the perfect idea!

After a pretty late night, we were happy to sleep in just a smidge. We were both ready to be up and at 'em when the alarm went off at 8:30. We squirmed into our bathing suits (well, I squirmed, Ben just easily put his on. I wish I was a boy.) and headed to the bus stop.

IMG_5346.jpg

We were on our way to Blizzard Beach! This was a big first for Ben, but I had been here years ago. We were both very excited to visit a water park.
It wasn’t until we got on the bus that I realized that I had dressed to blend in with Disney transportation:

IMG_5348.jpg

That’s my best chair impression. Pretty good, right?

IMG_5352.jpg

We’re here!

We got to the park just as it was opening and headed to the locker rental first thing. We got the larger size, so that we could just put our whole backpack in. Once it was rented, it took us a little bit to find our locker. Something about the way they were numbered was confusing to us. :confused3
But we eventually found it and stowed our bag.

Next, I decided that we had to find a couple lounge chairs. Not sure why, since our stuff was in a locker and we weren’t planning on sunbathing. Next time I will just skip finding a chair! Though we did spot a couple of very nice, secluded beachy areas off the lazy river which looked like they’d be great places to set up camp at Blizzard Beach.

Once we were finally settled (all in all, it was probably only a matter of 15 minutes spent on all this- just felt longer), it was off to tackle some slides. Ben wanted to try Summit Plummet, and I did NOT. But we thought we should get that out of the way first. So we climbed the stairs. For a really long time. That’s a lot of stairs! I was actually a little winded from the climb. Once up there, no one was really waiting for the slide, so Ben was soon flying down the slope. I watched from the neat little overlook area- it was a great view!

Ben headed back up the stairs and this time we took Teamboat Springs down. You need at least 4 people per raft, and we were grouped with a dad and his two sons. This is a fun slide, but I remembered liking better in the past…

Next we did the group of slides called Runoff Rapids. These are tube slides, and were a lot of fun. We continued walking around the park and ended up in our favorite spot- there are a few slides which use mats and they are great! The best were the Storm Slides- we loved them!

By now we had done everything we wanted to at least once and it was only about 11:30 or so. Ben and I were a bit hungry, but not quite ready to leave the park. So we decided to grab lunch at BB and then re-visit a couple of slides before heading out.

We grabbed some burgers at Lottawatta Lodge and ate them. Barely. They were gross. The buns were the whole wheat kind WDW seems to be using all over and they were super dry and crumbly. The burgers were just plain not good. Lots of BBQ sauce helped, and we choked them down.
One thing I really liked about this CS place was the design- it was clearly made to be walked on by wet feet. I hate the way tile gets when people are walking in wet bare feet (like the bathrooms at a beach) and was worried this place would be skeevy like that. But the floor was made out of paver stones, and didn’t feel slimy or gross at all! Having just done the Backstage Magic tour, I was especially thankful to the Imagineers for getting this one right!

After lunch, we were actually chilly! Clouds had rolled in, and without the bright sun, we were shivering. But we still wanted to try out the lazy river, so we took a lap on that. It was a lot of fun, and the water was so warm that we weren’t chilly for long. Once we completed a circuit, Ben and I decided we were done with BB and headed out. Once we got our things from the locker, we needed to document the saddest piece of Disney theming I have ever seen…

IMG_5350.jpg

Button the baby snowperson was melting! And his parents were standing by taking a picture, because they needed to have a memory of him before he disappeared…

IMG_5351.jpg

There was water running down them, because they were melting. So sad! And funny…

A CM saw us and offered to take our picture:
IMG_5349.jpg

I snapped this picture on the way out:

IMG_5353.jpg

Ben didn’t want to get sand in his shoes, so he’s not in it. Picture him there, if you can.
You can use this picture of him at the bus stop for reference:
IMG_5355.jpg

(Jess! Just noticed this a Give a Hoot sighting! Hoot, hoot!)

So after just a couple hours, we were headed back to our room at noon. Getting to the water parks early is great! Things had started to get a bit more crowded on the way out, and were happy not to wait for the slides!
Next up, Magic Kingdom!

Sounds like you guys definitely had fun at BB! Um, no thank you Summit Plummet. That thing looks crazy-- glad Ben enjoyed it, though!
There is something a bit sinister about snowmen "parents" taking a picture of their "dying" "child" haha.

Hoot Hoot!! Lets either make sure they NEVER wear these at the same time... or plan a time when they do so we can take pictures! (dorks)

Im still here and reading, I promise :) June is just busy. Lets get dinner some night around the end of this month?

Great updates! I had to read a couple back since I've been out for a while.

I'm glad you guys had fun on your tour! And that's awesome that you liked the WL! Makes me more excited for our upcoming stay! :woohoo:

And that soooooooo would've been me getting frustrated at DH for not getting mad too! :rotfl:

Your post is really making me want to hit up a water park this trip. We did TL last time and had fun, but I was prego and missed most of the rides.

Note to self, get the couscous at Mara! :thumbsup2. We LOVE the stuff and could eat it all the time!

Can't wait to read more!!!

P.S. Before you posted where you got Ben's shirt, guess where I went? Yep, Target. And yep, Johnny has a shirt to match Ben's. :lmao: I'll be sure to get a pic of him and give you props for finding it first! ;)

Remind me never to eat a burger at BB, doesn't sound good at all!! I hate those buns that you are talking about, I don't know why they are using them because they fall apart so easily :headache:

Sounds like you guys had fun though!! I think you did a great chair pose and blended right in with the bus!! Poor snowbaby melting though!!
