Some of the designs I did bled or came off my tshirts either after getting wet or after washing them. I washed and dried the shirts first with no fabric softener. I think it may be the type of transfer I am using. I used Print Works from AC Moore. I also used the tshirts from ACMoore. Does anyone else have suggestions for what I could do to keep the shirts from bleeding (I am making 25 more) or another transfer I could use?
Thanks, Penny

Okay, I'm not speaking "from experience" since I haven't actually made my shirts yet. But, I did order HP transfers after reading many posts of DISers recommending that brand.

I bought mine at hp.com & they were buy one package, get one free. So, I paid for 6 dark transfers & got 6 free, and paid for 12 white, and got 12 free. I believe it was around $25?? And, I got 2 day shipping for free. I read this on another thread. (I hope it's still going...I want to order some more dark transfers!)

Again, I haven't tried these yet, but I read some "not so great" posts about Avery and another brand (can't remember, sorry!), and read so many people raving about hp. Good luck! pixiedust:

For many transfers, you need to make sure you iron long enough. Even though the transfer releases from the paper it might not adhere to your fabric. While some brands may be better than others, I have honestly not found a brand that will not work.

For the ones you have already done, get some white tissue paper (the kind that you use for gift bags is fine) and place it over the design. Iron over that with the iron at the hottest setting for the fabric. Iron over that evenly in a pattern that makes sure that you iron all spots evenly. I usually start and end by ironing the edges and then do a zig zag pattern over the rest. Iron for at least 3 minutes, longer if you don't feel that is working. Then let the image cool before lifting the tissue paper. Oh, and the tissue paper will have a shiney and matte side. Put the shiney side down.

After the image is on there good (and you can repeat the above as many times as necessary), then wash your shirt in a vinegar wash: 1 cup vinegar in the washer only, nothing else, just the shirt and vinegar, no detergent no fabric softener. Then dry on a low heat setting. Not no heat, it needs some heat. If you only have one shirt, put a towel or two in the dryer to keep the shirt from bunching up.

Hope this helps.

Also, be sure that the paper you used was meant for your type of printer - inkjet vs. laserjet. If your printer is an inkjet and you print on laserjet paper, it will bleed all over the place.

I've read that 100% cotton is better than a blend. Were you using 100% cotton?

Thanks for the tips everyone. Much appreciated. Penny:hippie:

I have used Avery for all my shirts...and I have bought many shirts from A.C Moore.
