Helpful Information For You Updated 03/30/2012

Shirley - have you heard how many people they are expecting for the next Shuttle launch? I'm worried about traffic as we are coming in on launch day. Thanks!

Over 200,00 plus folks are expected for the last launch BUT the good news is that a number of folks are coming over the day before - listen take my cell phone number with you and IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES, call me right away and I will help the best that I can ok?

Thanks SO much Shirley!

Only 200,000? I was hearing 1/2 million. Maybe it won't be as bad as I fear.

Hi Shirley,

I have some questions for you.

1. We are sailing on the Dream on 5/12. We are planning on parking at the port. Will there be problems finding a parking spot?

2. Last year, the night before the cruise we ate at Fishlips. We enjoyed it very much. This year we are planning to spend part of the day prior to the cruise at the Space Center. Do you have any recommendations for a seafood restaurant lunch in the Titusville area? Or, should we go to Fishlips again? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

3. I just read on this thread about the Manatee Park close to the Radisson. (We are staying at the Country Inn and Suites.) I'd love to see a manatee. We have a car, so we can drive to it. Will there be manatees out in mid May?

Thanks for all of your help.

That is a hard question for I am assuming you will be driving in - we now will have 2 park N cruise areas - one in Merritt Island and second one at the Radisson for $6.99 OR at the port for $15.00 -me? I would go with the Radisson or the one in Merritt Island - IF you make reservations now, there shouldn't be any problem and if there is CALL ME and I will see what I can do to help

as for eating in Titusville - you can not beat Dixie Crossroad - their rock shrimp is worth the drive

http://dixiecrossroads.com/

Manatees may be out - if not give me a call and if they are out in back of me, I will get you and your family permission to go out on our dock to see them and the dolphins - they usually visit the condo here early in the mornings - mamas, daddies, babies etc - no problem - Manatee Bay is a beautiful place for the city of Cape Canaveral has really done a lot of improves there - nice quiet, restful, peaceful place -REMEMBER DO NOT DISTRUB OR FEED THEM OK?
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Somehow I missed the info on the manatees. Can you direct me to the post that is on. We won't be there until August 31st, but I love the manatees (and so does my dd).

Shirley, Thank you so much for the parking info. :worship: I called the Radisson today and asked if you needed to make reservations for the park and ride to the cruise terminal. I was told no reservations needed and that the shuttle leaves every half hour.

That saves us alot of money for a seven day cruise. DH and I will be celebrating our 20th Anniversary.

Thanks again.

Diane

Thank you so much, that is so kind of you. Yes, we will be driving up from South Florida. We are taking the day off from work the day before the cruise to drive up to spend part of the day at the Space Center. I would love to see the manatees and we will definitely try at the Park! Dh and I will try to stop by your shop for a quick hello! :)

OK UPDATE ON TRAFFIC FOR THE APRIL 29TH FINAL LAUNCH
It is said that over 1 million will be here for it especially with President Obama, his family and the Gifford/Kelly's here - IF YOU ARE COMING OVER, COME HERE THE DAY BEFORE OR VERY EARLY IN THE AM. Try NOT to park on hwy 528 for if you do, you will be sitting for hours before you can get to your designation ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE KIDS - if you are going to Jetty Park, be aware they fill up very fast and once they close their gates, you are stuck and routed around a residence area behinds many many vehicles - if you are staying at the hotels here, you can watch right from the parking lot and see the launch - IF you go to KSC, you will have an awesome sight, but again you have the traffic on U.S. - you can go to the beach here and still have a bird's eye view - bring lots of snacks and especially drinks - if you have any issues or concern, you can call me here at the shop and will help any way we can.
MEANWHILE ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks so much Shirley!

We have a room for Thursday night before the launch so hope the traffic isn't too bad trying to get there yet. We will be watching from the KSC Causeway so plan to go early and just spend the day. Not looking forward to the traffic getting out though.

ANOTHER UPDATE ON THE RADISSON - YOU WILL LIKE THIS

Dear Shirley

First let me say thanks for posting the information about our new policy on Shuttles and Transportation to the port – All the transportation companies around here will be raising their rates to help offset the new charges that will be coming from the Port

But secondly and really important is let me apologize for not getting back to you about issues with our shuttles – I guess I missed your message or just forgot – getting old and didn’t see it until I looked on the board and saw your posting and that I hadn’t gotten back to you – Sorry Sorry Sorry –

So let me share with you what we are doing to address some of the issue and improve our shuttle service and hopefully eliminate some problems

We are bringing on more staff to help with the loading of passengers and luggage – immediately

We are in the process of purchasing another bus – will be a 30 or so passenger size bus - we are shopping right now and will have this done and in service within 60days

Lastly within 2 weeks I will have a dedicated phone number for transportation only and have it – for anyone that is having an issue (pretty much everyone has their cell phone with them) – maybe we missed someone at pick-up etc.

Hopefully these things will help smooth out our people moving process and give everyone a greater comfort level

See you soon

Joe

Very cool Shirley! Wish I could be there, but headed your way tomorrow.

Any recent updates on traffic plans after the launch? I had read rumors about them opening up both sides of 528 headed west (similar to hurrican evacuations) after the launch, but never saw anything official.

Thanks for all the help you provide us tourists. ;-)

Right now there are so many "rumors" that I even can't keep up with them all - I do know that the traffic is going to be horrific so a lot of the shops will be closing at 12 PM such as myself :( BUT the good part is that I can enjoy the launch at an ease - its going to be so great to wish the Endeavor to reach for the stars again
Hugsssssss

PLEASE PLEASE IF you will be here starting today through May 07, be advised security has been taken over the top at the port and throughout Brevard County for a number of reasons so drive careful, don't be a jokester at the port, careful what you are carrying on - in other words, follow all the rules and regulations ok?
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MUST READ!!!! NEW UPDATE INFORMATION ON THE RADISSON
The Radisson is now providing Ambassdors at all the ships and they can be easily spotted for they will be holding a Radisson banner - it was tried this weekend and was very sucessful.

The Port Authority will NOT ALLOW anyone to be around the main exit from the terminal, but they will direct the cruisers to the Radisson pick up area where you can board your shuttle and there you will find the ambassador to help make you feel safe and comfortable. Each of these ambassadors can communicate with all the other drivers and coorindate each pick-up. Noone should be waiting 20 mins max.

New additional shuttles will be ready within 45 days.

We also now have a personal phone for those that have any questions or need help with transportation. Don't hesitate to take this phone number with you - the Radisson does offer such great people-friendly service and are eager to help in any way they can.

Thanks for the info Shirley our family just booked with them last week for Nov.
It was pretty easy a couple of years ago with them, this will just make it that much better.
Thank you for all the time you put into this information site.

First I want to take the time to sincerely thank you and everyone else that reads this thread for all the work so many have contributed to - I realize it is getting long and sometimes it takes so much to find all the wonderful information in it. As for me not posting much, my hubby had to have 2 serious surgeries and between taking care of him and my job, I just hadn't had much chance, but will try to be more alert and take time to do so. I have been putting together another update, but of course that takes a lot of time since we have to make sure all the places such as things to do, things to see, hotels, restaurants, entertainment for adults and kids, are all correct and still around and that everyone is still holding their promise to treat our guest here with respect and do everything possible to leave here with good thoughts.
Not to get off the subject, many walkers or joggers have asked if they could walk or jog to the cruise ships and each time, they have been told that the travel is very heavily dangerous and not to take the chance - well this past Sunday, I passed a young family who were distance walkers, trying to take their luggage on wheels, 2 small children and make it to the port - They put everyone into a very dangerous situation - I turned around when I saw them, loaded them all up into my van and took them to the hotel where they had stayed and seriously advised them, they had to either take a shuttle or cab - their words to me that they had no idea it was that serious or that dangerous. So if you are even thinking about it, please don't and even more put your family is such a dangerous situation.
Anyhow time to get ready for work - Preston have a great time with your girl - wish we were going with you
hugssssssssssssssssssssssss from me to all
