HELP! Waitlist for VGC GVC (Grand California Villas). NOW WHAT???? see post 40

wow! that's a great trip you have planned! where did you stay off-site? I have a child with some special needs- including a bunch of food allergies, so a kitchen is pretty much non-negotiable for us. (still waiting for 10/1-10/2 to match for us! or else we will be sleeping in the lobby that night!)

I hope the hawaii cruise is really nice! I looked at that one too, but when the Magic was announced to be in NY, we opted for that for 2012. So we have the 3 2nighters to nowhere reserved and 2 canadian cruises reserved. Hubby's in a panic!!! I don't expect to do all 5- I'm thinking 2 of the 2 nighters and 1 canadian....all with no airfare- AND, the 2 nighters will be just he and I (no kids). We almost did an alaskan cruise-- but my parents bailed out at the last minute, plus the air from NY to Vancouver was pretty steep. Without other adults, it just makes it financially crazy with 3 kids to pay for them as adults (the 1st and 2nd cruisefare in the 2nd cabin). The mexican riviera was a different pricing structure for us, so it was "ok" that we have 5 people in 2 cabins. We tried the Family stateroom once, but that price is insane too and there is so much more room with 2 connecting cabins. Do you have children?

Our Oct 2 thread is verrrryyyyy long! I haven't had time to read it all! But you've done a great job keeping everyone motivated!

As there is only the two of us and neither of us fancies cooking while on vacation, we have only ever stayed in normal hotels. I understand that your situation is different though. When we first went to Disneyland, we stayed at the Heritage Inn in La Habra. The second time round we stayed at a Ramada on Katella, which was about a 10 minute drive from Disneyland and the last time we stayed at the Radisson Maingate, which has since changed name.

Hawaii has been a big dream for me for a long time and once DCL announced the cruise, we just knew that we had to book this. As we live in the UK, Hawaii is just to far for us to fly to. Los Angeles is about as far as I am willing to fly. Alaska is also on our wish list. I can't wait to see what DCL has in stock for 2013.

I am also eager to see about 2013. Hope they don't do the release while we are at disneyland! I guess it would be ok if the release happened on our cruise, but I'd really prefer to be home, so I have a moment or 2 to think about the release and what I might want to do in 2013!

No waitlist pixie dust for me today.....

I was kind of wondering if they would release information about the 2013 itineraries during the D23 expo. They did this in 2009 with the 2011 itineraries and if I remember there is a segment about the future of DCL so this would fit.

I continue to keep my fingers crossed for a waitlist match for you.

The waitlist for your last night may be difficult ad that weekend is Gay Days and a lot of people are pretty fixed in their annual trips. I should cancel my 1 br WL for that weekend. I have a studio, but wanted to upgrade to have the jacuzzi tub. Sounds like you need the room more than I do. Plus I could use to save the points.

Thanks for the sentiment! It's very nice of you to offer! I'd take your studio (better than the lobby!), so if your 1br w/l does come through, hang on to your studio--maybe we can work it out and I'll take it/get it etc....from you. How long have you been on the waitlist for the 1 br for 10/1? When did you get your studio ressie for 10/1? Just trying to gauge...I'm getting the sense my hopes for the w/l match is akin to a snowball....and it's chance in h***!

Thanks again......

If you need a room with a kitchen, the Marriott Residence Inn is pretty nice. There's one called Main Gate which is about an 8 minute walk from the DLR gate, and another one down Harbor called MR Garden Grove RI, which is cheaper but then you'd have to drive/take ART. Also nice because they are usually 1 or 2 bedroom suites (though they do have studio suites).

I made the reservations for the studio at 11 months out. I just got off the phone with MS canceling the WL for the 1 br. I only have about 125 points left in this UY for the VGC and I'm hoping to plan a trip with another friend for a 1 br maybe in the wintertime, so that should be about right for us to go then.

Hopefully if anyone else cancels a 1br you will be on the top of the list! :wizard:

Did you waitlist for the 1br at 11 months out too? Yikes! I hope not!

No, I did that a couple weeks ago.

Whew!

Well thank you for cancelling "on my behalf". I just called MS, and no pixie dust for me today....no w/l matches and no other unit sizes to be had on 9/27 or 10/1. I can do without 9/27........but really need 10/1. It's not available for cash either- not that I would want to pay (in dollars) whatever crazy price they may have quoted me!

I wonder how much the cash prices are.....anyone know?

No idea about cash prices, but wishing you some Pixie dust for your last two nights to come through. pixiedust:

I too and in WL limbo hopeing for a studio at VGC 10/16-19, fingers crossed for both of us.

As far as I know, there are no cash prices for VGC. They are running at or near full year round now. That may be due to the fact that it is sold out. With all of the changes and improvements coming to DCA, I'm glad we ended up buying at VGC! It sounds like the 11 month window is going to be necessary once Cars Land opens.

ok.....just missing the night of 10/1-10/2...........just 1 more night to go!

When VGC owners use points for non-DVC vacations, Disney may do cash rentals.

The 11 month is important for high demand dates. On the other hand, yesterday I booked a 1-bedroom for 4 days next February -- the entire month is available except days around president's day. This is 6 months in advance, open for all DVC members.

Hi! Just checking to see if you heard anything on your WL since it's almost 30 days out. Hopefully someone will be canceling before the points go into holding.

Nope! Haven't secured the night of 10/1. I've called several times- sometimes 3x a day, when I am able to--but still no luck. I have 3 active waitlists-- 1br, 2br and 2br l/o (using 2 different contracts); so I realize calling is pretty mucha a waste of time, but still, I feel compelled!

Really hoping someone cancels....my plan B was to use points for a night at GCH, but I was told I can't do that. I can get a room at DLH or PP--for the same # of points as the 1br at VGC (ugh!), but the bigger issue is the lack of kitchen as I have a son with multiple (14!) food allergies and I need the fridge b/c he can't eat artifical preservatives and a stove to prepare things for him.

REALLY HOPING>>>>>:wizard::wizard::wizard:

Thank you so much for asking and following up!

I was looking for a room at VGC for a couple of days in Feb during President's week at about 6.5 months out. Had to waitlist. Put in a W/L for a Studio and a 1 Bdrm. Our waitlist came through for the Studio last week.:thumbsup2 Do agree about there being a lot of availability outside the Predsident's week though when I called.

Cathicool - I hope you get that last night you are looking for.

It seems you have all the bases covered :thumbsup2
Calling several times a day might not make a difference, but no one seems to know for sure. These are the last few days before cancelled points go into holding, so it makes sense to keep calling. The process of matching cancellations to the waitlist is somewhat mysterious, at least you only need one day so a match is simple.

My waitlist for Sept 1 and 2 for a studio or 1br did not come through, but this is just before the Labor Day and Half Marathon weekend.

Best of luck with your waitlist :wizard::wizard::wizard:

So today is 31 days away from 10/1.....so if anyone is "planning" on cancelling, today would be the last day to do so.

Still no pixie dust for 10/1-10/2...........maybe today will be the day?????

My waitlists all run til 7 days prior, so I'm still hopeful that last night will come through. It would be just my luck to have 2 of the waitlists will come through simultaneously and then I'll have another issue to deal with!

So no waitlist pixie dust for me!:headache: Now we are inside of 31 days, so the chance of someone cancelling is slim I'm thinking. We are still on the waitlist til 7 days prior. We are staying 9/28-10/1 (so far) at VGC in a 1br. What should plan b be?

Plan B is either stay on-site at DLH (36 DVC points) or PPH (31 DVC points) or go to Ramada Maingate ($130) or BW Raffles ($82) or Courtyard Marriott in Torrance ($50).
I suppose I could also pay for a night at GCH- but really don't want to lay out the cash for this.

This is for the only for the night of 10/1-10/2. On 10/2 we are going on the Disney Wonder. I have dining with WOC pkg (9pm) for the night of 10/1 and I plan on seeing the fireworks at 930pm and fantasmic at 1030pm. But we are a family of 5 and I really need a refrigerator for my son's food (lots of food allergies, so foods and meds that must stay in fridge)......hate to have to pack our stuff. Will disney move our suitcases from VGC to PPH or DLH? Should we just stay near the port that night? Uggghhhhhh....stressing!

TIA
