Help! Our Pixie Dust Dreams are fading!

I know Disney's main objective is to make money because in the end it is a Business. I just feel we are being nickeled and dimed for every last cent. Charges for premium parking, extra evening hours, extra morning hours, special viewing areas and so on. We have adapted to the lack of spontaneity. You really have to plan out every minute. Food dictates your trip if you want to eat at sit down restaurants. It's getting harder with families with little ones due to larger crowds. We aren't big Star Wars fans and I think it may be taking over. We Have been to Disney World 15 times since 2006 and 1 Disney cruise. We are huge fans. I know they have to adapt to stay relevant. I remember walking through Mickey and Minnie's house on our first trip and felt like a kid again. It was awesome! Things are a changing and for our family it's not for the best. I guess in the end they will keep testing the ceiling of how high they can go. As they raise prices attendance keeps growing.
No one is forcing you to do premium parking, pay for extended hours, sit in special viewing areas, or anything else that costs extra. As long as people will pay for these things, and pay for higher prices, they will continue to do so.

Exactly.

Enjoy the lower overall cost due to the "whales" (as they are called in the mobile game industry) that pay for these extras and essentially subsidize everything else.

Imagine if all that was "included" with the price or they didn't have overpriced "events"? The gate price would be like going on a Disney Cruise.

have you though about visiting one of Disney other parks around the world? Maybe a new park will give you that "Disney magic feeling again"

I'm more understanding of this kind of thread now that I've been back in this "new" age of WDW. But, what I found was that while it was good I had studied up on some things and had an idea of how to get around the parks (and between them) and had some FP+ in place, the best moments we had really weren't planned at all. We had more fun just wandering and happening upon things.

But I do think the prices of pretty much everything on property are insane from resort rooms to key chains! But none of that extra stuff is necessary for me to enjoy the place. Heck, the happiest I was on our recent trip was eating a hot dog, fries and a Coke at Casey's while watching the activity around me, and laughing hysterically at the Country Bear Jamboree (it was late, LOL).

I think Disney does a good job at making us feel like we HAVE to have all these extras and such in order to have the most "magical" vacation. But we really don't.
Though, if I had been as many times as you, I probably would be burnt out. I mean, I just got back a couple of weeks ago and even looking ahead to 8 months down the road I know I don't want to stay on property, don't want to visit any parks but MK, and don't really want to stay more than two nights to get a "taste" of Christmas at Disney and then come on back home. And I'll know then whether it's something I'll want to do again the following year or if that will be enough.

The inability to have a spontaneous trip sucks for sure, but...there are many other trips you can take that don't involve as much planning. There is so much more in the world (and country) to see rather than manufactured countries, rides and over priced food. I think it's ridiculous that there is a fp option for parade and firework viewing. Just find your spot and wait. Those kinds of things i'm not a fan of. but all that being said, my last trip was in June and we had a great time. Fortunately, i'm someone who likes to plan trips in general. But...going to Disney once every 3-5 years is plenty for me. I'd simply rather expose my kids to other experiences. We're going to Costa Rica this summer....

This would be my advice as well, consider Disneyland, there's enough different to feel like a new discovery and enough familiar to seem comfortable.
Doesn't it seem hypocritical to complain that a company is charging too much, raising prices, etc., to then turn around and still give them money, just in a different location?

I guess I see it a little differently than OP. I appreciate Disney giving options to upgrade (or not) our experience. Much like providing a choice between value, moderate, or deluxe resorts, Disney provides opportunities to experience some extras. Personally, I try to stay at deluxe resorts because I spend a lot of time in the resort and appreciate the amenities. I would never pay for the EMH - I am not an early bird, but my sister is and she would pay for that experience. It's nice to have choices.

I agree that changes we don't welcome can be frustrating. I miss Mickey & Minnie's houses, too. They were such a high point of our 2009 trip, when my son was 5 and he believed the characters were real.

We don't like the Star Wars themed-stuff, either. We just focus on what we enjoy about Disney, and leave the rest to others. Disney World trips still give us a lot of joy.

For those who wanted an explanation. To me its corporate greed gone over the top. With EMH at Fantasyland I pictured what I would have done with my kids if this was an option back in the day. Being a young parent and wanting the most magic for my kids I would have been sucked in. As a veteran I know how crazy it would be to spend 300$ dollars on this. I would kick myself afterwards for doing it and feel taken. I choose to NOT spend my money at Disney as a response.

So your inability to refrain from spending extra money is the fault of corporate greed? I think you might be misplacing that blame.

It's not if any of us can afford these things or not. I can see them charging for FP, ADR's, and so on. They are changing things and carving out little extras. They will continue to do this until all that's left is getting through the front gate and maybe allow you 2 rides on a particular day unless you pay for the extras. Maybe it won't happen but I bet some version of what I'm talking about will. This is happening right before our eyes yet many refuse to believe it.

I think people get too wrapped up in having the "ultimate" or "perfect" disney experience and, in essence, con themselves into thinking they HAVE to have all these things to enjoy their trip. It's just not true.

We've never stayed on site, and never will. Hasn't made the parks less enjoyable.
We've never made ADR's and still managed to eat, and never been disappointed.
We often skip our FP to go do something else.
We won't pay for premium parking. Walking is healthy and there's always the tram.
We like to be well rested and have a relaxing start, so we'll never pay for the new Magic Morning thing, and likewise we aren't night owls so the late night thing doesn't appeal to us either.

That said, I did once pay for the Illumination Dessert Party, as a surprise for DB on our one year anniversary. We've also attended the MNSSHP and MVMCP once each. One we're likely to repeat because we enjoyed the experience, the other not so much. We went to a character meal once, but it was entirely spontaneous...we walked up to look at the menu, asked how long the wait was, and were seated 5 minutes later.

Obviously our style won't work for everyone. I'm just trying to illustrate that we have good memories, magic, and money left over. We aren't rich by any means. It's just that so much of what it is commonly complained about as being corporate greed or money grabs...just isn't necessary. It's not required. It's a choice.

I went for three years straight between 2011-2013. It was getting to be burnout for me because of the crowds, but I still love the unique things WDW offered (Dark and boat rides). What I did is took a couple years off to do some different Theme Park related things (ABD and Universal). Those were great and different experiences where I learned more about myself and love of Theme Parks. It's made me ready and excited for WDW in three weeks. If it's WDW burnout, I would suggest trying Universal or DL for a change.

The Early Morning Extra Hour is going to have an affect on my rope drop and also my pre park opening BOG ADR strategies, because it's going to reduce the number of mornings per week these strategies work. So, I just can't agree with those who say these expensive extras have no affect if you just choose not to purchase them.

I agree... the other extras and add ons I can choose to buy or not to buy and they don't effect my trip one way or another.... these do..... I can choose to buy or not buy them and they still have an impact on my touring plans....
