Help needed, has anyone been to Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede?

We went to one at Myrtle Beach and enjoyed it. I'm not interested in going again, but for a one time thing it was fine. The food was just fine. One reason for no utensils is that it is fairly dark in there, and the only way you can eat is to feel what you are eating. The messiest part is the chicken. Here is a hint- eat only with your left hand, and keep your right hand free to pick up your beverage without getting the cup sticky. I also brought a wet wash cloth. Didn't really need it since they supply a wipe, but I felt cleaner. I also washed my hands before we were seated.

I think that Medieval Times, a similar show, made more impression on me.

I also think that Medieval Times is a better show. I was going to see horses and not all of the other stuff. That probably is why I like Medieval Times better as it is mostly all horses. I will say it is nice to beable to see the horses in their stalls before and after the show. I know they bring the horses to the ring side at Medieval Times but there is a performer on them.

I also have been to Medieval Times this July in Mytle Beach. Same large family group of us. That had mixed reviews on our group. The older members of our group loved it - especially the horses. The horses were incredible! However, we had kids there ranging in age from 3 1/2 - 8 and the kids thought it was ok but all the parents of the young kids did not like it. Maybe it was just that night or we had a different type of audience, but people were shouting "kill him kill him" to the knights that were dualing and we felt it was too violent for us. Not real family entertainment for our group. We had wished we did Dixieland Stampede once again. I think it would be fine entertainment for older kids though. I'm sure others have a different opinions on this, but I just wanted to let you know what my group experienced.

Hi  , I'm back with more questions lol

Does anyone know if you need to pre-book or just turn up with your tickets? And Do you know what the show times are and what would be the best times to go before the start of the show?

Thanks for the help :sunny:

In Branson, it was recommended to make reservations.
Re: family picture - We thought this was LAME. You were placed in front of a green screen and then they put a variety of backgrounds behind you. I think the cost was $15 or $19. They show you the pictures after dinner while you are stil seated. Our server tried a pretty hard-sell and the pictures were horrible.

You definitely need reservations, but I think they are fairly easy to get within a week of when you would want to go. I think the shows are at 6PM and 8 PM. In Myrtle Beach, the preshow was excellent - it was a man with his trick horse and the horse was incredible. I think we got there around 4:30 or 5 PM. I'm not sure what the preshow is in Orlando. When you book the tickets, just ask. It sure was nice to walk around the stables and see the horses before the show too. The kids really liked that.

I've been to Dixie Stampede in both Pigeon Forge and Myrtle Beach. I like it a lot. The show is fun and the food is good. All the food is served in such a way that you don't need silverware. As for the cost, you can get discount tickets at ticketmania.com or at AAA. It's a lot less expensive than the WDW dinner shows that way. We've also done Arabian Nights. We liked the show, but the food there was not very good. We've also gone to Spirit of Aloha and liked that dinner show the least. The food was ok, but the show was pretty lame. Just my $.02.

I went to the Xmas show in 2003 and it was ok. DH liked it more than I did. The food was alright typical comfort food and the show was reasonably entertaining. But I just didn't like the atmosphere. I felt you like you moved around like cattle in and out of your seats and up the stairs. Also there is no alcohol available.

IMHO the Hoop Dee Doo is far superior for the same price.

No, they do not. As I mentioned in a previous post, I would either have your kids eat before the show or smuggle in some PB&J's...You still have to pay for your kids meals at the show whether they eat a bite or not.

JELBoggio thank you for your reply. I ended up calling the 866-443-4943 number I found on another post and was told they have a kids meal, although it's only two chicken tenders instead of the rotissery(sp?) chicken. The rest of the meal is the same.

Hmmmm, strange. We went in March to the Dixie Stampede in Orlando. They did give us silverware and although it was dim, we could easily see what we were eating. I had smuggled in plastic cutlery but didn't need it. They did offer on the phone, (I bought through them directly as they were doing a special for kids free) on whether my youngest would prefer a childs meal, but I declined. And, they did offer us complimentary beer and wine which we enjoyed with dinner. They free poured it from pitchers. So, I don't know if it differs on location.

I'm glad I saw the show once, but it did start dragging on and I was ready for it to be over. The horses are beautiful and it was a treat to be able to see them outside before and after the show. The food was very good.

We all agreed that we enjoyed Arabian Knights better for the show, but it was the worst food, really icky! We enjoy horses the most and that was the focus of Arabian Knights. It was a fantastic show, if you like horses.

I think Dixie Stampede was worth it for a one time visit. Ticketmania has discount prices on show tickets, also the Dixie Stampede website occasionally runs specials.

Oh! And one other thing. I was going to decline the picture because we'd had so many cruise and theme pictures taken on this vacation but they herded us in there anyway. Well, it was the best picture of our entire trip! It was a 5 by 7 in color and the exact same picture in black and white. It cost $20 for both in the Dixie Stampede folder. They put the kids on rocking horses and us behind them. I couldn't believe it came out so good!
