I am by no means an insurance expert, but from what I gather these coverages for “medical evacuation” are referring to either 1) moving you from a facility that may not have the required staff or equipment to treat you to another facility or 2) transporting you home and you are not able to do so commercially. In either of these scenarios its not an “emergency transport” but something that can be handled via a phone call and them setting up the transport. So you are essentially stable and just need to go to another facility for higher level of care or back home. Not like calling an ambulance or needing an airlift from a ship or say remote area, like when hiking. These are likely covered under another part of the policy. My Allianz policy in thus section actually says to Call 911 if its an emergency before anything else. But could be wrong. Also, I do believe that most evacuations from a ship are handled by most country’s coast guard (at no cost) or a government search and rescue team (at no cost).
