Hi all! To make a long story short- my DH and I are in a wedding that we really don't want to be in.... and we have to get the couple a present. Does anyone have any cheap ideas? I feel like a bad person asking this!!!! :upsidedow

I think the only way to get away with something cheap (especially since you are in the wedding), it to hand make something really special.

Is she putting disposable cameras on the reception tables? You could offer to put together a special wedding album for her.

Do you do needle point or cross stitch?

I'm stumped, but those are my ideas.

Depends on what you consider cheap but I would recommend a few personalized/meaningful Christmas ornaments that they would have for years to come. Bronners.com has some beautiful ones. A lot with a wedding theme and you can even get names put on some of them.

I'd just get something cheap off of their registry. Or just a gift card... and you don't even have to put the value of the gift card on the card when you give it to them. They can figure that out later on.

Other idea would be something like a memory box... just something cheap/basic that they can put cards and stuff in to save for later.

If the bride is changing her name, www.colorimages.com has really cute return address labels you can order with their new married names. They have nice ones for newleyweds or you can pick one for their interest/hobby. They come in handy for those thank you notes.

I would go to TJ Maxx or Homegoods and pick out a crystal vase or dish or something like that and wrap it up nicely. They will never know what you spent.:thumbsup2

Buy a dollar card. Find the biggest wedding gift on the table at the wedding, switch cards.

Just kidding, of course.pirate:

Or Tuesday Morning

what about a nice picture frame?

Someone did the personalized vistaprint labels for us for a shower gift and we LOVE them. They are just too cute. It doesn't have to cost alot to be really special:)

One of my favorite gifts from my wedding was $10 or less. It was a 4"x6" photo album with a spot on the front for a photo framed in "silver". It was just the right size for the casual snaps from our wedding.

I agree with the pp about wrapping. Some fancy wrapping can make a less expensive gift look pretty high end.

If you don't mind spending just a little bit more (say ~$50), I love, love, love the Wilton Armitale that I received for my wedding. I use it all the time! ETA: I think Bed Bath and Beyond carries Wilton Armitale (platters, etc...). If so, you might be able to use one of BB&B's 20% coupons.

I would take a ton of pictures of ALL the wedding and pre-wedding hoopla, and put them into a dvd slideshow with music! You could use their wedding song plus some others to customize it. Lightscribe or sharpie the dvd, put it in a case, wrap it up, and deliver it with some popcorn and drinks to watch together. Cheap but very thoughtful!

(we recently had to do this because we couldn't afford a big gift, but wanted to give a "big" gift - so this worked for us!)

My favorite gift from my wedding was a $15 gift card for Starbucks. We used the card and went on special 'dates' together (we kept refilling the card).

I would recommend that you go to Michaels (or another craft store) and buy a nice wooden box. You can decoupage (sp?) pics of the couple on it and they can use it for a memory box. A great very inexpensive idea. It doesn't take long either.

Good Luck!

we always get people a personalized afghan (or blanket in other words). It has the couple's names and the date they were married. It's $20 and I'm pretty sure you can order it from miles kimball online.

How about personalized bath towels. i got one for a wedding present and it was one of their favorite gifts. There was something going on at the Macy's I went to on that particular day and I got free personalization when I bought the towels there. I don't know how much it would be otherwise though.

Are they going on a honeymoon? Do a honeymoon-themed gift. If they are going to a beach-type place - get a clearance beach bag and a couple of beach towels along with some sunscreen and an underwater single use camera. Maybe throw in a travel book to that location.

:lmao: :rotfl2: I love all the DISer, how did everyone on here get so funny! I wish it would rub off on me!

I wish I had seen this thread earlier, we just went to a wedding on Saturday, and could have used a nice 'budget' gift!

Here's a cheap (but thoughtful) idea I've used in the past. I asked family and friends of the bride and the groom to give me a recipe to share with the couple. I then typed up all of the recipes (giving proper credit to the sharers) and made a recipe book for the new couple. In the back of the book, I included menus and phone numbers for some local eateries in case they were too busy :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 to cook for while, lol.

I packaged it with a couple of breakfast trays. The total cost was well under $50.00, but it looked good and was practical.
