My friends are going to Hawaii for their 25 Anniv. But need advice and help.

Can anyone help me to help them??

I'd be very interested, too. We've got a trip to Hawaii in mind in the next 3 years or so.

I can't steer you to a Hawaii discussion board, but you may ask me as many questions as you want!

I've lived here (on Oahu) my entire life (32 years). I've visited the Big Island many times, Maui 3 times, and I went to Kauai for a day trip once just this past October. The only thing I probably won't be much help with is telling you how to find good discounts. In Hawaii, we have "kamaaina" (or locals) discounts, that don't apply to others.

They are looking for discounts on travel, hotel, airfare, food, rental; car.

I'm looking out over Wakiki right as I write this. We are
mainlanders that own a condo in the Waikiki beach area. Island Colony--operated by Marc Resorts. We actualy own but the hotel rents our condo out during the time we are not here.

There are plenty of discounts-----If you PM me your address I'll have the tourisum board send a vacation packet your way. We stay 6 or 7 weeks during the winter-----I shop where the locals shop---when I'm here I just live in the resort area ( we are 2 1/2 blocks from the beach-)

Let me know how I can help.

Just wanted to post the link to the Hawaii Convention and Visitor's Bureau website, it seems to have a lot of information. I think there's a link where you can request a brochure to be sent to you too.

unlike WDW, I think a package is the only way to go ! You can get air,a car, and accomadation for what just air might cost on your own.
I think Pleasant hawaiian holidays has very nice packages....there is an elment of "cattle call" until you get out of the airport, but the savings are worth it.

Do they know which island they want to go to? I would start with a good travel guide such as Fodor's or for Maui I like "Maui Revealed". That will give them a ton of general information that will at least get them started.

When we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon I bought the Idiots Guide to Hawaii. They has lots of great info in there on how to get good rates. We stayed on Oahu and the big island and I booked it all myself. I think I found some pretty good rates. That said when we go back Im thinking of booking a package because the airfare from Houston was pretty $$.

We just booked a last minute trip to Hawaii. Right now the airfares to LA are so cheap from the east coast ($200 rt from Prov to LA) that it was much cheaper to book the flight to Maui seperately. We are paying $275 from LA straight to Maui. It is even a better deal because out of 6 of us flying 4 are flying on free tickets from Prov to LA. I highly recommend the Maui Revealed book (there are also other versions for the other islands). We have been to Maui several times and there was a lot of stuff in there that I did not know about. I also got a great rate on a minivan ($220 for a week) by using the car rental codes on mousesavers.

When we went a couple of years ago, my wife read several different guidebooks and mentally marked when two or more different books mentioned the same attraction or restaraunt. She found the most wonderful breakfast place on Oahu called "Eggs & things" that way. The first time we went we did the American Hawaiin cruse which was great (it has gone out of business) but I understand that there are other curises between the islands.
The second time we just rented a car and made it to the places we liked.
Good luck to your friends.

I booked both of my trips through Pleasant Hawiian Holidays, they were much cheaper than other packages I checked out. My most recent trip was in '94, so things may have changed a lot.
