The kitty claw covers were something my mom tried with her cats but she ended up having to take one to the vet after he ate one and it apparently got stuck in his throat. He could breathe but it was bothering him. They haven't used them since.
Also, I agree that there is no such thing as restricting a cat's areas. They will go wherever they want and will drive you nuts if you try to stop them. They are really wonderful to have around though.
