Help me convince DH

We are planning our next trip for the beginning of June 2013. I have a "friend" that has a gorgeous rental house on Kississimee. She gives me an awesome deal. However, DH really wants to stay on property at BC or BW. The cost difference is astronomical. I am wanting to stay for 2 weeks. So, how many days at BC or BW would be a good compromise?
We would rent points and are counting on YES tickets, so no packages.
We stayed at this house last year. It is 4 bedroom, 4bathroom, pool, hot tub, game room, full kitchen, ect. GORGEOUS, Disney themed.

I need to convince him that staying at the house will be great.

If you stayed at the house already, he knows what it is like so I don't think you can convince him it is great if he didn't think it was. I am guessing you want to convince him that saving the money would be great. Maybe just show him the numbers and explain what else he could buy with the money saved by staying at the house.

My first thought would be splitting the time evenly between the house and BC because it is his vacation too. I think you should just show him the cost savings for varying lengths of stay at the BC and see what you can agree on. Maybe 5,6, or 7 days at BC and the rest at the house.

If you want to rent points for BCV or BWV for June 2013, you will need to start the ball rolling NOW! Those resorts book up at the 11-month window for members who own at those resorts. Availability for non-owners at the 7-month mark is very limited and a lot of weekend days are unavailable without being on a waitlist.

You will need to find a DVC member who owns at one of those resorts, has the number of points that you need and is willing to rent out their points. They would need to book the resort sometime next month. And you would need to pay them well ahead of time. The payment would most likely be non-refundable.

It's not impossible if you start planning right away. But you certainly cannot wait until next year to do it. If I were going to do it, I would want at least a week in the unit. Otherwise, the hassle of taking a day to pack up all the groceries and suitcases after a couple of days would not be worth it to me.

I couldn't agree more with this post! Except for the part about moving. We've done it many times & it's not that big of a deal. We are doing it in Aug with 1 night at AoA followed by 7 nights at AKV.

If you go for a split stay I would be worried you would hate being in a smaller room after being in a 4 bedroom house. What size unit are you planning on renting at the BW/BC?

Ask your DH what his reasoning is for wanting to stay onsite. If you stayed in the house last year and he doesn't want to again this year, there's a reason why. Maybe he thought it was a pain to drive and park at the parks or maybe he feels staying on site is more "magical." Whatever his reason, figure it out and see how you can compromise. Maybe a week onsite/week offsite or maybe since you stayed offsite last trip, it's onsite this trip and then back to offsite next trip.

I would focus on the savings of staying at a house. Figure out the price difference and decide, as a couple or as a family, what you want to spend that money on. Is it worth the money to stay on WDW property? Or do you want to use it for something else?

If I were your DH I'd need no convincing....

We prefer off-site to begin with and if you're getting a great cost savings it would be all the better.

Is there something about the house you would be at that he didnt like?

He likes the convinience of on-site, but we always rent a car and never use Disney transportation. He has always wanted to stay at an Epcot resort because it is his favorite park.

The "friend" is actually a parent of a former student of mine. They are an amazing family.

Why not just stay at BC or BW for however many days you'll be visiting Epcot, plus an additional day to hang around the resort and enjoy the pools/amenities?

We've stayed at BW a couple of times, and it was pretty cool to just stroll over to Epcot. The boat to DHS was good, too. However, for MK and AK, it was a HIKE to get to the bus stop - especially dragging back from the parks at night.

The atmosphere on the boardwalk at night was not nearly as lively as I had anticipated, and food choices were just so-so in my opinion.

I'm assuming the reason for the need to convince is mainly financial..is that correct? If so then the price difference would be astronomical...I am thinking 400% more.

If cost is not the issue I'd say stay @ BC. If he loves Epcot and has "always wanted to stay there" I think it would be beneficial in many ways. Convenience of course, but the dining options and sheer amazing place BC is would be awesome for 2 weeks.

Also if you rent points from an owner it would be much less than through Disney. I agree with PP, if you are looking to go that route you would need to rent from an owner @ BC to get the 11 month window and that many days in a row. BC is very hard to book so I think getting the ball rolling now is definitely the way to go if you decide to stay @ BC.

Personally I'm with your DH..I'd choose BC over a rental house ONLY if price weren't an option. If price is the main sticking point, then definitely the rental house is the way to go.

I see, I just try not to assume If I were you, I would start at the rental house and then split to go to BC. Once you're at BC and forced to leave, whatever (if anything) is lacking in the rental house will be magnified after having been @ BC. Just my .02

I have to agree. No Driving... I gotta say, it's up there as one of those PRICELESS perks. That was a big factor in deciding to become a DVC member.

If you are both teachers, have you considered the Swan and Dolphin? They have a teacher rate which makes them less than YC/BC and BW, with all the convience of the location.
