"Help me choose a paint color" picture thread

Here's a shot looking out of the Campbell's Tomato Soup room - it actually shows 6 paint colors I used if you look closely - from right to left - BM Decatur Buff in the DR, SW Haycock in the foyer & up the front stairs, custom mixed plum red SW on the wall of the hall going into the kitchen, SW Latte in the family room, then BM Wilmington Tan in the breakfast room, back to the Campbell's Tomato Soup room which is SW but I forget the name. Like a circus of colors!

Every angle, Haycock is my favorite.

There appears to be a gold-ish/yellow-ish color in your drapes (hard to tell exactly, but it is a lighter color).

I'd pull that color out and paint the walls.

Hey Disney Doll. If your talking about my drapes, the lighter color actually matches the walls. The angle of the camera and the light does make it look lighter than what it really is. I will try to take a better picture tomorrow.

elizke - thanks for starting this thread. I have just spent the last nine months impatiently waiting to be able to paint my walls. I replaced my childhood home with a new one and the contractor suggested I wait 9-12 months before painting to let the house settle.

I just picked up some of Benjamin Moore's color sample jars and was going to start slapping different colors in a couple of rooms, tonight in fact. There are just too many options! I picked a pale gray for my kitchen - gray floors, black counters and appliances, and oak cabinets. But after seeing your apple red, I may just have to try a sample of that. I love it!

TaraPA - I was going to go with cream trim every where, but you are right, the bright white does pop!

I am so glad I saw everyone's colors before I made any final decisions. I will be rethinking a lot of my choices.

Thanks!

elizke - here are 2 shades of brown that might work for you - I have the darker in my foyer & the lighter in the family room.

It is Sherwin Williams Haycock to the right going down the front stairs, Sherwin Williams Latte to the left going down the back stairs.

Is the darker Haycock? Or Latte? I love this color...I want to get it for my family room.

We have a 1400 sq ft ranch. It is an open concept so we needed a color that would go from the kitchen to the dining room to the foyer and great room. I wanted a couple of accent walls but DH is color shy. It was a real stretch to get him to do this color. I posted this picture because it seems to be the most true picture of the color. It is Behr paint from Home Depot in Warm Muffin.

The darker is Sherwin Williams Haycock. I will try & take more angles of it today, but it's very dim & dark out right now. Kids are home, school is closed because of the ice, so who knows what junk will be laying around in the pics! Let me go get some coffee....I'll post pics in a little bit....I'm i nslow motion today!

Rethinking everything? Oh dear....:)

I am finding it so helpful to see all the colors too! I'm so glad people are willing to post these pics.

Your kitchen sounds nice. I love grey toned floors. I am stuck with beige floors, but if I had been able to choose they'd be grey.

Hixski,

Very nice color. It looks very versatile, so it was a great choice for your open house. You had even more area to cover! This color looks like beige, yellow, AND gold. I like that it's not too washed out, but it's fairly bright looking.

I know all about the "convincing DH" problem. I am trying to make a choice I can be passionate enough about to then campaign and convince him. :)

Thanks so much for posting a pic!

Those are all the pictures I have in my Photobucket account right now.

Drats! I forgot to post on this one yesterday after gazing at these pics. I got distracted I'm sure.

I remember seeing your lovely kitchen come together in the remodeling thread. It is really nice! And I remember looking at your colors then too. It's a very nice yellow gold, looks like even a hint of green to it. It's definitely a color I'd consider. It looks great in you kitchen. Is that the same color in your bath, or is it different? It's a much brighter pic so it's hard to tell.

I like the burgundy bedroom too. I love deep colors!

I have my entire bottom stairs painted this yellow. I use cranberry accents. It is called Melted Butter by Behr. I have rounded corners so we have no stopping point. My entryway is 22 ft and I have 12 ft ceilings. We painted ourselves using an extension paint pole.

Here is the entryway:

We used a color called Autumn Goard by Behr in my dh's study. I have not taken a pic yet but it is a very pretty color. I will try and take a picture and post it later. The color is not orange or gold but something in between. He has olive/sagey colored drapes with a paisley topper. We get compliments all the time.

I am glad you posted your Melted Butter walls. Beautiful!

Can you tell me how you taped and "cut in" in the color? I am thinking of doing our foyer ourselves, but I am scared of ladders and scaffolding :scared: .

This thread has given me the inspiration to run around & pick up clutter! Here are more Sherwin Williams Haycock shots...

This one looks warmer because I have amber cups on my chandelier that make the Haycock look almost bronze

The gold and green are two different colors. I need to look up what the names were. I wasn't crazy about the color in the kitchen at first because it was such a big change. I LOVE it now.

BM Decatur Buff from their Historical Collection - almost takes on a green-ish gold color at times. I have forrest green drapes so maybe that's why.

This is a deep reddish brown in my mudroom from the Benjamin Moore Historical Collection. I love the color but reds are difficult and this was a pain. It took a coat of primer & 3 coats of paint, and still is streaky at spots. I have 2 other reds in the house (will post) and neither of them was this uneven in color.

Here's a shot with 3 colors - BM Hodley Red, BM Wilmington Tan in the hall & Sherwin Williams Leafy Shade in the powder room.

Here's another of the 3 reds I've used. This is the true-est red, in a powder room. I'm thinking of painting above the block wainscotting a darker ivory, what do you think? It's painters grade ivory right now.

Good heavens Tara! Your house alone is like a paint color showcase! It's great to see all these colors! I love the reds and the green. And I'm hoping to add a paneled look in our dining room like that. I've always loved that look.

I love the cream as is in the half bath. And I don't know why some reds are such a pain, as in your mud room. It looks great though.

I expected problems with our red kitchen but we just used two coats and it looks fine.

Thanks for all your postings Tara. Once I get past drooling over your house, it's very helpful to see all the colors. :goodvibes

Ok here's the neatest thing I did with paint - tone-on-tone stripes - BUT I also need some advice for this room. When you look at the pics (master BR & sitting room) look up. Both rooms have tray ceilings that are blah. On the bedroom side I did paint part of the tray to match the walls - but now what to do on the inside of the tray? I was actually thinking of painting it Haycock from downstairs, then glazing it with a metallic paint. I originally thought to pull the spa blue from the bedding but then I thought it would be too circus-like. I'm not a fan of blue (but have a blue bathroom to post later!)

Stripes in process...
MasterBR.jpg

look closely to see the stripe
IMG_2576.jpg

you can see part of the tray is done but not the inside
IMG_2573.jpg

looking into the sitting room - these walls are flat paint - I didn't carry the tone-on-one stripe through to that room, I thought it was too much. Nothing done to the tray ceiling - help! I need suggestions!
IMG_2575.jpg

Oh by the way this was an old Sherwin Williams color called Victorian Gold, I don't think they have it anymore but I have the formula if anyone is curious. Mot a yellow-gold at all, more tan-gold.
