My DW and I took a 4 day cruise on the magic and just loved it. Then we joined DVC. I called MS on friday to get point costs was told 145 pts per person for a cat. 5 room. Now assuming that old addage of $ 10.00 per point, it would seem that it's cheaper to pay cash $2,700.00 for the same cabin. Can anybody shed any light on this?

Thanks for the help.

Well, we just cruised on the 4 day with our DVC points. Our main reason for doing it was that we wanted to cruise, but did not have the money to do it. Since we have points, we used them. To us it was worth using our points. Sure it ends up costing more if you use the $10 per point thing, but remember that when you stay at a DVC resort, MEALS are NOT included. This includes them, so to us it seems to be valued at higher than $10 per point. I think it depends on how you look at it.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

We decided that the cruise was not worth the points and decided to rent points out to get the cash to pay for the cruise. We booked a cruise for Christmas season. If we used our points, it would have taken 322 points to take our family. By paying cash, it will cost us only $2450, so we are going to rent 245 points at $10 per point and pay cash for the cruise.
