When I graduated from college back in '94, it was with a degree in Education. I subbed for a couple years, but never got hired full-time. Then I succumbed to the lure of "easy money" and went into retail management.
Well, times goes by and I'm no longer in management, and the money isn't there anymore. It's time to get a "real job."
Sooo...I'm screwing up my courage to try and get back into the education field.
The local school district is having a recruitment fair May 10. Here's where the scared and nervous part comes in. I've never been to a recruitment fair. I haven't been in a classroom in about 8 years.
What should I expect? I don't know the teaching lingo anymore...I don't even have teaching clothes anymore. I assume I should bring my resume and transcripts...anything else?
I'm bad at interviews where I'm not overqualified for the job..if that makes any sense.
Basically I just need some advice from any teachers and some good luck wishes.
Thanks in advance!

Keep current on the No Child Left Behind act and what the districts are doing about this. Be willing to do extra duty and you will get more consideration. (But that isn't necessary) Maybe make sure you know some things like cooperative learning strategies.
Good luck! You will do fine! What do you want to teach?

They are desperate for substitutes if you want to be flexible and get back in the swing of things. MY FIL gets $90.00 a day and works for three semi rural and one "big city"- (his words not mine I call it suburban) district and he could work daily if he wanted to.

Florida is dying for good teachers. I don't think you will have a problem.

Just go to the fair with a confident attitude and you will be fine.

Thank you everyone! I just keep telling myself "Florida needs teachers," that's what everyone says. I'm hoping for a job in the younger elementary grades.

no advise here
just wishing you good luck and much success
