I have always been a night owl and lately I am bored to death between 10PM and 2am when the rest of the family is sound asleep. Of course, at that time of the night, I am limited to what I can do.

I love to cook but banging pots and pans around at that hour tends to wake people up. I am bored with the computer and tv.

I love to read but I tend to read some pretty intense books. I found reading them at night interferes with my sleep so I save those for daytime hours.

I am not an arts & craft type person. No needlepoint or scrapbook projects for me.

My interests include writing, reading, playing chess on the computer, murder mystery books and TV shows but I just feel tired of those things lately.

I would love to hear any other ideas or new directions. Going to bed early isn't an option. I have long given up the idea of falling asleep before 2:30am.

Work crossword puzzles or other word games/puzzles...I know I love reading and writing and love crosswords and other puzzles as well.

The computer, movies, and TV are my friend at this point in time. I hate having a downstairs neighbor, I can't do anything I want to do when I'm awake!

omg, I am so jealous!! I would LOVE to stay up past the kids to get some downtime, but I am just EXHAUSTED from running around everywhere that I fall asleep by 10. Are you able to get up at a decent hour staying up so late? I am so jealous. I feel like I waste too much of my free time sleeping, I need to fix that.:lmao: But the kids are up at 7, so watcha going to do?

What about jigsaw puzzles? There are some killer Disney Photomosaic puzzles that are great!

Why not write a book?
Jigsaw puzzles are a great idea. What about organizing all your photos in albums? That would take me 10 years of staying up all night!:rotfl:
Exercise? Get a Wii fit and have some fun!
The only other things I can think of are crafty things as I like to make stuff.

First idea is take some of those sleep pills and get rest!

After that watch those shopping networks.. Insta sleep..

If not, then read or a good audio book

Thanks for the ideas so far!

I have tried different genres of books but I am just not into them. I like them intense!

ajk912, I have been like this since I was a kid. I used to sneak downstairs and listen to Johnny Carson every night without my parents catching me. My 14 y/o DD is up until 12am/1am reading every night. On the flip side, my 12 y/o DS is asleep by 8:30pm of his own accord. We always joke that we won't have to worry about him partying when he goes away to college. DD and I are up between 8am and 8:30. DS is up at 6:30am.

I didn't think about jigsaw puzzles. I used to love doing those. That might be a good one. Thanks!

Don't be sure about that. I have a friend who told me that he went to bed early on his own accord as a child, but became a night owl in college because everyone else was.

Jigsaw puzzles are the best to keep one busy. There are so many interesting ones out. I found the most challenging is the two sided puzzles.

Well I'm a night owl too, and I'm up by about 9:30ish every morning, unless I have to get up earlier for some odd reason.
Anyhow, I usually use the time to do different things like, plan trips, pay bills, budget things, computer pc games, etc...
Right now, call me crazy, but I'm using some of the nights to address Christmas cards, hehe...I personally write everyone in my church a card and just tuck it back for when our Christmas party rolls around, I'm also doing a lot of Christmas planning and looking online for any deals for Christmas, I'm going to be making Christmas popper next week when everyone is in bed so beleive it or not I love the nights to just do odd things like that. :surfweb:

I love writing as well, but when my journal gets boring, I collect quotes! I know that's totally random and maybe a little weird but I thought I would suggest it anyways. I google, look through books I loved, and browse newspapers or what ever for quotes I like and then write them in a journal. Now they make those vinyl wall word thingys, and I look forward to inflicting my hobby on my family by adorning my home with my favorites!

I recently started taking Hormone Pills, and find they PUT ME TO SLEEP by 11:30 PM.....I get plenty of rest now......;) I take them around 10:30-10:45 pm and I even have a nap around 3-5 and have NO problem going to sleep...zzzzzzz...........;)

You could earn some $ on the internet by doing survey sites and/or reward sites. They pass the time and you can make something towards your next trip.

How about finding less intense books to read at night?

I've heard about some Amish books that are pretty good. ;)

I do cryptograms. I found an app on the iPhone so I think I can just toss all my old books.

You guys have given me some great ideas. Thanks!

Cryptograms seem cool. I also love collecting quotes. I just had my hormones checked and everything is fine so no drugs for me. :upsidedow

I just saw a commercial for a DS game called Professor Layton. I don't play video games but that one seemed intriguing.

All great ideas. It is only 11PM so I have many more hours to search for some keepers.

Farmtown on facebook and seriously there are many engrossing games up there. Scramble is a good one if ur good with words.

I think you should look seriously at your insomnia and address that. There are good books on insomnia and tips for sleeping. A dull hobby like rug hooking is simple and may make you sleepy. I worry that you aren't getting enough sleep.

do you drink caffeine? I know for me before i gave it up if I had anything to drink after 6 om it would take 6-8 hours to get out my system & if I forget & have a brownie or some other chocolate it's still the same - 2 am before I get into bed.

One other game to mention is Suduko - LOVE them - you can get the cheap books @ Wm or the $ store

OR if you invest in the Nintendo DS you can get it with BrainAge - that's a great one - though it doesn't make me sleepy - it just passes away tons of time 'cause I like to make a decent score.
