Hi,
I have 200pts. 150 resale "grandfathered" in (2006 purchase)....and 50 pt add on direct.
I treat these as 1 200 pt contract for reservations never an issue....BTW my use yr is April and I own at WLV.

I am adding on 50 pts same use yr and resort. I am creating a new contract so I can add on my mom so she can partake in the DVC AP discount.....hey she pays the dues:goodvibes....she should get a benefit besides going every trip.

Anyhoo....I will now consider myself having 250 pts in my April Use yr.

Can I just call at any time and transfter my new 50 pts to my other account so I can continue to do this.
I would hate to call at the 11 mth mark and miss a ressie because it takes forever to transfer the 50pts I need and I miss the ressie.

Thanks so much.....Loving that I will get 50 pts 2011 UY and be able to bank them:cool1:

Anyway....Any pros and cons to this arrangement. Am I missing anything.

Because you are adding your mothers name to the new contract, I believe that will make it a completely separate membership. Did you consider just adding her name to the original contracts? Might make it easier than having to transfer.

Remember, transfered points can't be borrowed, only banked. I don't know your plans but it could cause a PIA situation in the future where you can't use 50 of your points where if it were one 250 point contract. KWIM?

If she pays the dues, I agree, she should get some perks right :goodvibes

You can only transfer points from the current or future UY. So right now, if your purchase is complete you could transfer the 50 points from 2012. Once April comes, you could then transfer the 50 points from 2013. But remember, you could only use them in 2013 or 2014 UY, you can't borrow them. You could essentially make April 1 your transfer day for the next UY.

It is a PIA and costs a lot to add on mom to original contract.

Ok....slightly confused with no borrowing....I'm always borrowing:headache:

Hmmmmm....so 1 transfer per year.?????

So......lets say I'm making a ressie for JUly 2013.....how would I utilize this 50pt contract to be used thinking I will need my 2013 and 2014 pts for this ressie? Want to do Aulani and Disneyland.
I'm sorry don't know why i'm so confused.....

I usually am in borrowing mode.....is this a bad thing....
Thanks

So I can't transfer 2012....then borrow 2013 and transfer....OI.....now I'm.....bang zoom.....lol.

You can only do 1 transfer per year UY, and transferred points CAN'T be borrowed. so if you transferred the 50 2012 points, you can use them in 2012. April 1st you could transfer 2013 points over, but you can't use those 50 points until 2013 UY. They cannot be borrowed for use in 2012.

I don't want to sound like I'm judging, but I think I've read that it's $495 to add a name to the contract, and if she pays the dues, you might owe it to her? Especially if you will need to borrow the points. Like I said, it will probably make it easier if you don't put her name on and keep it all under one membership #. Then add her name after the transaction has closed and is loaded into the system.

You could transfer the points once a year to add them to your larger contract. We do it every year. But transferred points don't show up on your membership on line (just transfers out). So you wouldn't be able to us online booking when you wanted to use those transferred points. And you can't see both contracts when you are booking a stay either. It's just one or the other.

But you could just do a contract change and add your mom to your existing contract and she could pay for the dues on the new points. Then it would be one contract and you wouldn't have to worry about transferring points.

I would only transfer the points to the other membership when you know you won't need to do any borrowing of those points.

What you may find that you will have to do is book whole nights with each membership and then ask MS to link.

So, with 50 points a year (and up to 100 if you need to borrow), you would be able to book some nights on one contract and some on the other.

And, I have heard that they sometimes make exceptions with more than one transfer per UY if it is the same member transferring between their own memberships. While this is not guaranteed and may not happen, it is possible.

These would be my suggestions as well. Booking and linking isn't difficult and would allow you a little more flexibility if borrowing is your typical mode. Or just transfer when you need to. I'm one that has been told by MS that they allow more than one transfer between memberships owned by one person. I don't know if they'd get sticky about the contracts being slightly different but I doubt it. And of course they could at anytime decide not allow more than one transfer.

Thanks so much everyone.....I'm going to put my thinking cap on and try and make different ressie possibilities and see how it works out.

I like the idea of linking the 2 ressies. I could probably just use the 50pt contract borrowing for the DL stay and the bigger one for Aulani.

Just kills me to pay $495 just to add a name to a piece of paper....
that is worst case scenerio....Hey thats almost 5 points:lmao:
Love this place:goodvibes

You can change the name on the existing contracts by doing it yourself for under $75 both contracts. You'd have to wait to do the add on until that was complete though. I'll tell you that DVC is rather lenient on multiple separate contracts of a single owner. While the rules technically apply, they have a fair amount of latitude in this situation and have been known to allow one to transfer multiple times and banked/borrowed points when the need specifically arose. Personally I'd likely do the separate contract so legally she's not on all the contracts but this thread and similar ones illustrate some of the potential issues. Even if you get them all in one contract, they'll still be separate for cruises, etc but will be one for DVC usage. Also, if you buy now and end with with 2, they won't put them together later even if the names are changed to match.

Thanks Dean,
I pulled the trigger. Bought the 50pts with mom on separate contract. Don't want to wait....cause they are giving me 2011 points which they will let me bank into 2012:cool1: And only pay 30 days of dues on them:dance3:

I believe Disney will be "lenient" if the need arises....they do want to make us happy...and go to WDW and spend our money:goodvibes
Back in 2009 when I got separated....I was going on DCL and last minute they let me change names with no penalty....that was almost a real nightmare....but they blew the pixie dust. Hopefully I won't need it....but if I do....hopefully their is still some dust floating around:goodvibes

Just realize they don't have to and they will usually only bend the rules in this situation if it is clearly necessary. Like when all points must be in one account such as to finish out a single night or for a cruise or other exchange where applicable. I think the area that could be an issue is trying to make a 7 night reservation at day 1 when you don't have enough points in one account.

Yes...A big ressi like DCL......or trying to get the full week at the high time.....could be a problem. I'll find out for sure....I'm hoping for good experiences just like I've had so far.

There's no finding out for sure because technically it's outside the rules as currently written. And even if it's OK now and they say so, it could change and you would have no protection.

True....things can change with the "mouse" at any time:cool2:

I really don't think Disney cares if we are happy or not. They just want our money which you cheerfully gave them. They will sometimes give a once in a lifetime change, but when you use it, you use it.

I have a small contract that is separate from our main contract. Whenever I want to use it, I either have to transfer the points or make a separate reservation that I ask to be linked. For our trip last June, I had six nights in an OKW GV with one contract and one night with the other. I had to check out and check back in again. And all my guests got new KTTW.

I think they care but they do not need to continue to court those who area already members. I think it's the realization of the membership that's changed FAR more than has DVC. Many have come to realize what I've said all along, that DVC is just another nice timeshare that happens to have on property options. Much of the changes I see for the better.

That is annoying...I had to do that with a linked ressie and I can't imagine the hassle with all of the guests with a GV. Oh yeah....the problem I had was the DDP linked...partial ressie.....Oi.....

Just curious what you think those are...I see that you are a timeshare vet...:goodvibes.
Thanks

A short list of hot topics items the last couple of years that I see as positive but have been discussed mostly negatively here would include the reallocations, ability to reserve a week at time (original discussions here were neg0 and valet parking issues. IMO, reallocations should have taken place around every 4-5 years starting around 2000. To me the problem was not making the changes when it was clear they were needed.

yeah....I remember I wasn't thrilled with the re-allocation....Sun-Thurs much cheaper....But now I'm going at more peak times....which I think would up a little less?? What are the valet parking issues???
DVC gets free valet right?? I have never rented a car so I've never noticed.

I feel DVC is making good changes....free internet...although that really is standard nowadays.

IMO....all I care about is my ability to book any resort at 7 mos....that was the whole point of me buying DVC...and that would be very disappointing. They market the flexibility....and that is their strongsuit I think?
Thanks
Kerri

Someone here (coulda been you for all I can remember!) stated that the more of an uproar in the forums over changes, the more they were necessary. I can tell you I agree that reallocations are a plus. I don't see it as a negative. It COULD negatively impact my needs, or positively, but as a collective whole, I feel it's a positive. Peak days at peak times should always cost more, but I think the difference between weekends and weekdays in the past were far too great. Just my opinion from someone who is only recently become a member. While I agree DVC is interested in our money, WDW and DVC are long term investments on their part as well, and they do need them to run smoothly for years to come to continue to collect our money.
