Help.....few questions adding on "New Membership" to my contract.

Free valet parking is no longer a perk. There was no notification. Members checked in with what they thought was free valet, but when they checked out, there was a fee. This all happened overnight.

Someone here (coulda been you for all I can remember!) stated that the more of an uproar in the forums over changes, the more they were necessary. I can tell you I agree that reallocations are a plus. I don't see it as a negative. It COULD negatively impact my needs, or positively, but as a collective whole, I feel it's a positive. Peak days at peak times should always cost more, but I think the difference between weekends and weekdays in the past were far too great. Just my opinion from someone who is only recently become a member. While I agree DVC is interested in our money, WDW and DVC are long term investments on their part as well, and they do need them to run smoothly for years to come to continue to collect our money.

Exactly, one should know that changes are inevitable and many of them will be negative to a given member. Also, there's a balance between what's good for a given member vs what's good for the system and membership as a while. I'm not sure if I made the statement but I think there's some truth in it.

The general decision was spot on, the implementation was handled extremely poorly. Same for the relocations from AKV a few years ago.

yeah....I remember I wasn't thrilled with the re-allocation....Sun-Thurs much cheaper....But now I'm going at more peak times....which I think would up a little less?? What are the valet parking issues???
DVC gets free valet right?? I have never rented a car so I've never noticed.

I feel DVC is making good changes....free internet...although that really is standard nowadays.

IMO....all I care about is my ability to book any resort at 7 mos....that was the whole point of me buying DVC...and that would be very disappointing. They market the flexibility....and that is their strongsuit I think?

I do think they over did the reallocation regarding weekends and have offered several possibilities why they might have done so though I don't have a strong single answer to suggest to you. I think free wireless is hit or miss with top timeshares and resorts in general. Generally free for motels and maybe/maybe not for higher end hotels. Remember that flexibility has a cost, that figure with DVC is likely in the 30% higher dues yearly.

Yes...the dues are high......so I'm hoping the quality stays!! As for free valet....I thought that was a nice perk....Why would they take that away????
Do most DVC'ers rent cars. BTW.....is it still free to park your car anywhere by youself???

Many would argue that the quality has suffered over the years and is currently at a critical level. The facts of the "free valet" are that a few years ago Disney (not DVC) outsourced valet parking. Disney had been providing it free to DVC as an added value and that continued with the outsourced contract. That contract was up for renewal and the independent company was no longer willing to continue that option, the only option was to now pay full price. DVC would have had to start paying out of dues for this option for the benefit of a small minority. The decision itself was an obvious one to do pay to play, the implementation was done poorly. I'm not sure it was quite as bad as the note you quoted suggests. I know that happened to some but only for the days involved after the contract changed, not generally their entire stay and once the change occurred, I think arriving guests were notified at the point of drop off.

While the uproar (to DVC not on DIS) did have an effect on changing the mugs for the studios, this is so totally different from many other things that I think it has no meaning in most other areas. It's an area where no one was happy, there really weren't 2 sides and it's something than any and all costs will be paid for by the guests, mostly by DVC members themselves out of dues. It is NOT a valid example of how things can get done that have other issues, like the free valet or reallocations.

I took it to mean I can't go grand Floridian and pretty much Aulani is the last new resort I can go to????

They always do that until they actually declare inventory, it gives them options. Remember there have been 2 resorts announced and never built but neither had inventory declared.
