We are heading to Disney in roughly 35 days. FIL just found out this week, and although I love him very much, he can be rather opinionated. Anyway, Teddy is doing really well in school and FIL wants us to delay our trip stating that it is important to have him school so he can continue to progress. He suggested Christmas or Spring Break  I said no to that because those are just insanely busy times and Disney can be busy enough with out the extra crowds. We are planning on continuing to work with him, doing ABA, some speech exercises and facilitating communication with Teddy with other people. We will also bring some of his therapy tool too.

Furthermore, we are going with a friend and this is the only time she can go. Not to mention that we our airline tickets are non-refundable, and the chances of us being able to re-use our discount are slim to none. I feel we just need this vacation but I know this is going to be a huge stink with him. He is helping us to cover some of his ABA therapies and I am just so tired right now and this vacation is the one thing keeping me going.

How old is Teddy; what grade? If he is in elementary school missing a few days should not be a problem. Also, many special education people will agree that often a trip to WDW can do a lot more to help a special needs child progress than time in the classroom. Talk to the people at his school, you will probably find them supporting you and you can give this information to FIL.

My daughter's acquisition rate improves significantly following our trips to Disney. She, like your child is in a AVB/ABA program, and I think the break is good for her. We go while school is in session to take advantage of the lower crowds because she couldn't wait in the lines during Christmas or Spring Break, nor could she tolerate the heat of the summer months. It is very exciting to see the rapid gains a good program provides, but the small breaks we take to vacation in Disney have not hurt my daughter (and this is supported by our data) and this will be our fourth December trip.

Good luck. Please feel free to PM me if I could be of any future help.

Actually it is DS, who just turned 3 on the 18th. He is in preschool. I am going to write his teacher and have her help me get infor for FIL. The waiting in lines thing, I am guessing will be his biggest issue. However, when we took DD at 3 it was her biggest problem too. ;) She is neurotypical and is quite bright. I am not looking to have any problems with her.
