Hi everyone. I need your expert opinion on a quandary my DW and I are having in regards to becoming DVC members. The question at hand is not whether to become members or not, but is in regards to time frame. We plan to take our two nieces (young women now) to the AKV for two weeks in May of next year. The question I have is if I buy via resell, and it takes the 10 to 12 weeks to go through will I be able to get two studios at six months prior to our planned dates (May)? Or am I better off buying from Disney and beating the 7 month mark? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

As a second question.. can anyone confirm what I read earlier today that Disney is now breaking their 160 point rule for first time buyers and selling 100 points?

Thanks again everyone.

I can't really comment on the speed of resale and getting those studios. However, I can confirm that DVC is allowing new members to buy in for 100 points at AKV and I think SSR. You'll definitely get your points much quicker if you go this way - and perhaps someone can confirm if you also get purchase incentives at the 100-point level.

At six months out, for May, you will likely be able to get 2 studios, but they may not be at your first choice of resort. OKW and SSR would almost surely have 2 studios available, maybe BLT and AKV, as both of these resorts are still declaring inventory into DVC.

I have been researching in depth. I can confirm the 100 pts for new members through Disney direct because that is what I am looking at doing. The only thing is - Discounts per pt are a bit less. With a referral it is $99 a pt. But if you go to 160 it is $93 at pt. (for AKV)
Also, if going resale just really research - some contracts are "stripped" (ie the pts from the year have already been borrowed by current member, and be aware that you pay MF on current pts. left) Disney in some cases is giving the 09 pts(just what some other DIS members have told me) Good luck with your purchase/decisions.
(Go Cdn $$- That makes it a bit better:wizard:) AS for the time frame , I am not educated enough to help out. Sorry

Thanks everyone! But my decision has been made up for me. I just called Disney and they are not licensed to sell DVC in British Columbia (where I live):confused3. They said they couldn't even provide me with any information unless I was in the US and calling from a US phone number. I also confirmed that this isn't the case with resell. So... resell it is and I'll keep my fingers crossed as to my trip. :scared:Wish me luck and thanks for the replies.

Hopefully this will help ease your mind.We just went through the resale process. It only took from first offer to closing apprx 4 weeks. The resale process seems to going at a fairly quick pace right now. We had a decision on RFOR in about 8 business days. As PP stated be sure to look at the contract to ensure the points you are paying for are all there. We purchased a resale at OKW with 220 2008 points, 220 2009 points as well as all 220 2010 coming in March. There are some really good contracts out there you just have to do your research to find them. The other thing to remember is you do not have to wait until you get all your materials before making your reservation. After you close wait about 3 days and call MS to see if you are in the system. Once you are in there you can make your plans without having all your documents back from the resale company. Good Luck.
