Hell's Kitchen - Season 4 Official Thread

They're all characters rather than people driven or inspired by food.

::yes:: That's a good description of the cast this year.

And I agree, you could see one of Gordon's patented "I'll fire who I want to" moves as soon as the girl (I forget her name) started talking about game strategy.

I was unimpressed last night. To be honest, I thought the women did better with their dinner service than the men. And Chef Ramsey was so nice to the men when they were out on the boat, and then so horrid to them in the kitchen. :scared1:

No, the BBC version is also called Kitchen Nightmares.

Kitchen Confidential is a completely different show (a comedy, I believe).

Gordon Ramsay has done a UK version Kitchen Nightmares, similar to the Fox one.

He's also done Boiling Point, Beyond Boiling Point, The F Word, and I think a version of UK Hell's Kitchen that featured celebrities in the kitchen, like a culinary Apprentice. He may have done other shows like these as well. (I wish they'd release dvds of these.)

He deserves his reknown and I admire the man. Going from what he'd worked for, a career in soccer destroyed by knee injury, to becoming a master chef complete with apprenticeship at a relatively late age, and being awarded a total of twelve Michelin stars. He is currently one of only three chefs in the UK whose restaurant is rated at three Michelin stars.

Once upon a time, I had to do a fair amount of research on the guy. That's why I know all of this.

Kitchen Nightmares is not Hell's Kitchen. He comes into restaurants on the skids and tries to resurrect them - sometimes the episodes are quite inspiring. I really like the BBC version of Kitchen Nightmares, I guess he also did one on US TV? Gordon is actually quite nice in the Brit version. Yeah, he gets in people's faces, but not the out-of-control maniac he portrays on HK.

The 'cooks' on HK...ack. Especially the men. Double ack. They make me want to laugh and hurl at the same time.

agnes!

Past seasons have shown always Gordon to be very pleasant outside of the kitchen. I think of him as a Marine Drill Instructor in the kitchen, demanding perfection in language peppered with salty words. (Heh, kitchen show, peppered and salty...I crack me up.)

I just wish Gordon whould take off his shirt on camera on this show, like he did on Kitchen Nightmare's. :lovestruc

You are killing me, here. :rotfl2:

But I will be watching for him to take off his shirt!

There was a US version of Kitchen Nightmares. It was aired on Fox this past Fall/winter. It did appear to be a shorter season, with (I think) only 12 episodes. *warning - this is only my speculation* It may have been intended as a summer series, but was bumped up due to the writer's strike.

Critics said the UK version was much better, as too much money was spent on each restaurant to make them over being one of the chief complaints.

Gordon himself changed into his chef jacket often on the show, and showed his bare chest on camera. That alone made the series worth watching for me.

I LOVE this show. Gordon scares the bejeezus out of me but I love him! There is no way in the hot place that I'd want to work for him, but I would love to meet him. I think he's a nice looking man, but he needs to smile more. The scowling is really putting some deep lines in his face!

Now, about these men. OMG! Jason really tee'd me off last night. After several woman bashing comments I knew he had to be scripted or at least put up to it. Especially when he kind of smirked at the end.

The guy voted off last week was so freaky looking! I couldn't help but stare at him. The other balding guy with the high slanted eyebrows is funny to look at too.

I can't see anyone that has much talent as a cook on either team. Jen really annoyed me last night too, but I knew Gordon wouldn't can her.

I don't know what it is about watching all of the screaming that pulls me in, but I love it, lol.

Stupid move on Corey's part to play the "strategy" game this early. One good night in the kitchen this early on doesn't mean you are fabulous. Get rid of the true deadweight before kicking into strategy mode - now she has a big red target on her back.

Do they go through all the applications and tapes to see who is the worst and then put them on the show? Seriously!! :headache:

Jen- Last night, babbling on and on and on and on. I understand that she wants to stay and wants to show all her good points, but apparently being short and concise is not one of them. :headache:

Sharon aka Barbie- So glad that Ramsey chose her. She was absolutley useless. Again, why are they picking these people? They really can't be the cream of the crop.

Corey- Stupid decisions last night on her selections for elimination. It's still a team effort that helps you lose or win the challenges. Picking your strongest people and leaving your weakest? Talk about shortsighted and stupid.

Rosann- Holding tickets for upwards of an hour? Is she really this stupid?

The other girls seem to be keeping their heads down pretty well.

Bobby- I can't wait till he gets eliminated. He is an idiot, who couldn't lead a pack of hungry puppies to food. He thinks he's so wonderful yet does nothing but make himself look like an absolute fool who is full of hot air and other stuff.;)

Jason- I think he is playing the sexist part because he knows that it will create controversy and get him air time. Hey, if you have no pride, I guess it's the way to go. :confused3

Petrozza - Seriuosly, how hard is it to memorize the menu that you are going to be cooking? Did he do to many drugs when he was younger or something? I think a monkey could have memorized that menu quicker then he did. :hippie:

I know the show edits everything to death so that they can slant the story for more racier and controversial shows, thereby showing the bad side of people. These contestants can't really be as stupid, sexist and idiotic as they are protraying them to be. Then again, I don't think the producers are forcing Jason to say sexist things, or forcing Bobby to be an egotistical butthead.

I really hope some of these people shine in the latter episodes. As it appears now none of them are qualified to do prep at any of Ramsey's restaurants let alone run one or even cook in one!!!!!!

I'm just not feelin' the contestants this year! So far no one has struck me as someone that is really passionate about being a chef, like Rock, Bonnie, Julia and the rest of the contestants from last season.

As for last nights episode, I'm glad Gordon overrode Corey's decision. She let her head get way too big, too fast! Glad to see Sarah go - her constant tongue wagging made me cringe!

Bobby really annoys me, but I was surprised by the kindness he showed Patrozza last night when he was ready to give up. He finally showed a nicer side!

Jason seriously need to go. His toe picking grossed me out last week, and his bad attitude of women is horrible. Where did they find these people?

I just saw this week's episode. Thank God I can watch episodes online!

The red team's maitre de (sorry, I've forgotten her name) HELD BACK TICKET ORDERS?? Some for an hour??! She really should have been nominated for that monumentally stupid move.
I agree that it was idiotic of her.

And Chef Ramsey was so nice to the men when they were out on the boat, and then so horrid to them in the kitchen. :scared1:
That's Ramsey for you! I think he is a really nice guy for the most part. His yelling and cursing is just how he gets people to do their best, though that would never work for me, if someone was yelling at me like that to get something done, I'd be scared to do something wrong, and have something thrown at me.

Stupid move on Corey's part to play the "strategy" game this early. One good night in the kitchen this early on doesn't mean you are fabulous. Get rid of the true deadweight before kicking into strategy mode - now she has a big red target on her back.
I agree.

I think a lot of the guys, seem to have, "I can't do it, I give up," attitude. In both episodes guys have gone back to the dorms during service, and this week Bobby had to go up and get what's his face, and button his jacket for him. Then the preview for next week showed one of the guys pretty much quitting as far as I could tell.

I couldn't take one more show with those sexist remarks. It made my blood boil more than Chef Ramsey's :headache: and I would be happy to stand next to him so you can compare.

For everyone looking for replays (I had the same Big Brother/Biggest Loser conflict, too) Fox Reality channel is rebroadcasting the last episode on Sunday nights at 7 and 10 PM eastern time. I realize some people probably don't get that channel, but wanted to give a heads up to those who do (I have it on DirecTV).

So glad to see Jason booted off last night! I couldn't believe he had to make one last sexist comment on his way out the door  What a loser.

Does this thread need a recap?

4/22

Men grumbling about Craig and blaming him for the last loss (last week, when Jason went home). Ramsay gets on loudspeaker and tells everyone to move their arses back to the kitchen, NOW, to clean up. Corey whines about her team being intimidated by her and that's why she's not liked. Red team discuss' cleaning before doing it. Corey does a poor job of sweeping the floor before abandoning her team to go to bed.

Next morning, Ramsay asks hands to be raised by those who consider themselves the strongest team member, or for the teams to nominate a choice. Corey holds up her hand, but a red team member complains about Corey leaving during the cleaning. (Cut to Corey accusing someone of being a tattletale- basically.) Jen (I think that's her name. Sassy African American woman on this season) gets nominated by her team and she accepts the position as leader for the challenge. Guys side, I think Ben was nominated right off.

Ramsay announces this season is the worst, blah blah, he's disappointed they haven't completed a service...so tonight there's going to be a change. (Cue ominous music...cut to commercial)Tonight there will be a service and it will be...family night. So, there's a new, purpotedly easier menu. Burgers, fries, onion rings, chicken wings and pasta. Chef Ramsay only serves fresh pasta so it's a pasta making challenge. Ramsay makes rolling out and making the pasta look like the easiest thing in the world....

Red team goes slow, takes their time, while Jen tells them to "Make Pasta" and Shayna holds out her arms as the human pasta dryng rack for the red team.

On the blue side, Matt holds out his arms immeadiately, well before the pasta is anywhere near ready. Someone (Bobby, maybe) tells him to put his arms down! Men crank pasta roller like madmen, and generally expend a whole lot of energy.

Ramsay inspects and weighs pasta that meets his standards. He does 1/2 red teams effort, 1/2 blue teams effort, before returning to red team in a twisted effort to ramp up the suspense.

Red team wins. They take a Hummer limo to amusement park in Santa Monica, Ca. Blue team is left behind to prep for both kitchens. Blue team blames craig for the loss. Ben, as the leader, gets called away by the sous chef, Scott, who looks like Nigel Barker. There's more for the children tonight than just food. They have a pony ride set up. Well, the ponies have done waht fat, happy ponies do..they made a stinky mess in the parking lot. Ben has to shovel that up. Hell's Playground has to be tidy.

Dinner service starts. Ramsay tries to take Jean-Phillipe's tie, as this service is more of a relaxed one. Jean-Phillipe is resistant to the idea and gets called a doughnut by Ramsay. Red team's Jen doing good with keeping clear and loud lines of communication open. Appetizer's begin to go out.

Blue side, Ramsay notes that he does not want any raw chicken going out. Appetizers leave their side as well. Kids mug into the camera. Onion rings are complimented.

But..oh no! A problem...undercooked chicken wings are returned to the blue side. Ramsay notes Matt has a fixation with serving raw food and goes ballistic at the thought of raw chicken being served to a child.

Burgers from Blue side are absurdly small. Ransay throws them against the wall. Ramsay repeated asks Craig about the pasta station he's on, and marvels at the total lack of response from Craig. Craig serves undercooked pasta, which Ramsay belittles and refuses.

Red side...a small grease fire breaks out. Vanessa tries to take the pan off the heat, and instead splashes her hand with the hot oil. She ducks into the storeroom and an unknown person rubs what looks like some ointment onto her hand. She is then taken away in an ambulance. Red team rallies in her absence.

Ben and Petrozza begin to celebrate, seeing only 6 checks left, and thinking they are pulling ahead. Ramsay sees the display and is NOT amused. He points out that ladies only have two tickets remaining.

The ladies complete their service. Ramsay sends them over to help the men complete their's. Craig ignores Jen when she ask "what can I do?"

Ramsay declare Red the winner, and Ramsay berates Craig. He then hands Ben a sort of compliment, lets Ben puff himself up before puncturing Ben's ego with his barbed comments. Bobby is named the best of the worst.

Everyone goes off. Men make their cases to Bobby.

Bobby chooses Craig, "He's like a broken compass in the kitchen. Whichever station he's at, he's pretty much lost, " and Matt, "He's a little nervous."

Ramsay says he wants to hear from someone else, but won't call him out. he knows who he is. Ben steps right up on the line with Craig and Matt.

Ramsay asks each why they should stay...Ben: "I'm just gonna keep giving you a hundred percent, chef. Every day." Matt: "I'll give you a hundred twenty-five percent, chef." Craig: "...I don't know what a percentage is." (That's okay, neither does Matt, apparently.) "But, just...over that."

Ramsay sighs and grimaces before sending Craig home.

Vanessa could be the ticket runner or she could assist Jean Phillipe, but I don't know how she can actually cook one-handed when she's not used to it.

TurboKitty - That recap is SO funny :teeth:.

My DD just said that they probably didn't let the kiddies sit very close to the kitchen. Not because of all the kitchen-fires, but because of Ramsay's language: "****! This is ****ing terrible, you're a ****er! You little ****er, I can't ****ing believe that you ****ing did that!"

agnes!

I was thinking the same thing about the children. Don't sit them to close to the kitchen! Yiikes!!!

So glad I found this thread... I was looking last night and couldn't find it.... DBF and I watch it every Tuesday...SO I am joining the thread...

:lmao:

We were cringing everytime he yelled. I can just see the poor kids trying to eat when all you can hear is Ramsay kicking the side of the metal counters.

Why is this thread dying? Is anyone still watching?

For those that are: Can someone please tell me when Gordon will get rid of Matt? I just can't take him anymore and the more the slides through the more I think he might just slide right into the winner's spot.
