HELLO ? MICKEY? ARE YOU THERE?It's me again, and again, and again.....TR STARTED 6/3

Isn't all this snow crazy?! I'm so ready for Spring!!

Enjoy your morning of sleeping in!!

I love the backpack, now I am going to have to look for me one :rolleyes1.

Don't you just hate not know if you have to get up early or not? I know I do. I don't know if I have to work tomorrow or not. If not that is fine with me I will sleep an hour or so more. I have to get up at 5am if I have to work, if I get off I will sleep until 6 or 6:30 and we may go to all the parades tomorrow.

It is crazy plus some, Michelle! I am ready for some warm weather. I'm really hoping that when I go to Disney next month, that it will be warm there. :)

Enjoy sleeping in this morning. I am up and getting ready for school.

Thanks, Jackie. I only slept until 7:30, not too late. I usually get up around 6 on a school day, so anything past 7 is good. As I post this, I am dressed, and ready, waiting on my kiddos to get themselves ready. We are going to school on a 2 hr. delay. So it's a short day today! :woohoo:

Maybe you can find a steal of a bargain like I did, Dana! :thumbsup2

I do hate if when I don't know if school will be in session or not. The past two times we had missed, I was completely ready when I got the call....:headache: At least yesterday, they called before 6 a.m., so I could go back to sleep. They called during dinner then, to say we were on a 2 hr. delay this morning, so I knew I could sleep until at least 8....but since I'm old, the chances that I make it to 8 are slim to none! ;)

So I'll ask this question and show my Mardi Gras ignorance.....Are there parades everyday?

I'm here! Better late than never. :rotfl:

I LOVE your Vera bags!! I almost got one for our December trip, but the pattern I really liked is on ebay (can't think of the name right now) and it was $$$$ - so I just bought a new one down in WDW. :thumbsup2

Are you on snow day today, or just a partial day? Hasn't this winter weather been insane?!?!?! Just crazy!

I hope I can find some good sales.

I woke up at 6:44 yesterday so I did get to sleep late, but I still had to go to work :sad2:. I wish I had known before hand because we were CRAZY busy yesterday and I was an hour and a half behind by the time I got to work.

It is not Mardi Gras ignorance, just Mardi Gras unawareness :lmao:. Mardi Gras season started here on January 16th and ended at midnight last night with the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Most of the parades are at night with the exception of a few. There are about 40 parading societies here in Mobile so some days there may be 2 or more parades and then there may be some days with no parades. Mardi Gras day starts at 10:30am and ends with the last parade at 6:30pm.

Here is a little history on Mardi Gras in Mobile,

"Mardi Gras is celebrated in Mobile, New Orleans and other Gulf Coast cities. This festive event was started in Mobile and according to some accounts, dates back to 1703. The celebration was originally called Boef Gras (Fat Beef).

The well-known Mardi Gras in Mobile was begun by Michael Krafft. On New Years's Eve, 1830, Krafft and his friends were reluctant to end a dinner party at the customary time. They raided a nearby hardware store, took up rakes, hoes and cowbells and proceeded to wake the town. They soon formed the Cowbellion de Rakin Society, the first of Mobile's many modern mystic organizations. The Cowbellions presented their first parade, complete with floats and theme, in 1840.

The Civil War brought revelry in Mobile to an abrupt halt. Joseph Stillwell Cain, on Fat Tuesday of 1866, donned full Chickasaw Indian regalia, dubbed himself Chief Slacabamorinico. Cain and six friends set out to raise the morale of citizens in the defeated city. Dubbing themselves the "Tea Drinkers", and fired up by drink much stronger than tea, they took to the streets in a decorated coal wagon pulled by a mule. Cain was a founder in the Order of Myths, the organization which today holds the final Carnival Season parade Mardi Gras night. He also helped organize many more parading societies. Cain's role in reviving Mardi Gras is observed each year on the Sunday before Mardi Gras Day, "Joe Cain Day." On "Joe Cain Day" thousands of Mobilians in costume and on individually designed floats parade through the streets of downtown Mobile.

The date of Mardi Gras is determined by the date of Easter. Mardi Gras Day, or "Fat Tuesday," is the Tuesday before the Ash Wednesday which begins the 40 days Lenten season. Nighttime parades and other public festivities begin about 10 days before Mardi Gras Day. Carnival Season balls, receptions and other private functions begin in the fall and continue through Mardi Gras Day."

Joe Cain day is REALLY FUN!!!

Sorry I hijacked your thread and turned it into a Mardi Gras lesson.......:lmao:

Thanks for coming over to join my PTR and on the Vera bags. Nothing ever wrong with a Disney bag! :thumbsup2

No snow day today....We missed Monday for snow and then went on a 2 hr. delay on Tuesday. Today is a regular, back to school, day! The weather has definitely been crazy this winter!

I'm glad you hijacked the thread....I didn't know a lot of that about Mardi Gras, and my undergrad degree is in history! LOL! I think that name, the "Cowbellion de Rakin Society" is hilarious! I have never been to any part of Mardi Gras...in fact, I've never been to New Orleans!

Sounds like you had a busy day at work. Did your co-worker have her baby yet?

We were really busy and I am just glad I got paid time and a half :lmao:.

You would love the Comic Cowboy's parade, they make fun of everybody :lmao:. We haven't been to NO since before Katrina. I have only been to Mardi Gras there once.

Lynn still hasn't had her baby :sad2:.

Hi Michelle!! It snowed here on Monday, too!! I couldn't believe it when I saw it!! Thankfully we already had the day off for President's Day! It did not stick to the roads so we went back to school with no problems yesterday. They are still talking about how we are going to make up the days--they are looking at either adding time onto each school day, taking away some of Spring Break, or adding it to the end of the year. Apparantly the teachers are voting on it according to Ally's teacher. I just wish they would decide and let all of us parents know!

Hi, Becky! We were not planned to have Monday off, but the snow changed that plan. Originally we were to have teacher-in-service this Friday (tomorrow), but we will now go to school to make up one of our missed days. We were to have a school holiday next Friday as well...but we will be making up another day then. I had already planned to be in Gatlinburg that weekend for a church/youth activity. So, my kids or I will not be there. Too Bad.......:rolleyes1

Woo hoo!! That is so close!

Yes...getting closer to that Spring break trip. I'm getting pretty excited!

Well, I have been thinking for a while about adding the DDP onto our AP room only room for our May trip. :confused3 We have a TIW membership, but I ran all the numbers anyway to compare. I got about a $50 difference, and that was not counting snacks or desserts at TS and CS resturants. So....................................

Yesterday, I called and added on the DDP! :woohoo: I'm so excited! The kids can order what they want, and I don't have to hear any fussing about having to eat this or that! I still have two reservations that we will pay OOP and use our TIW discount.

All this, of course, has prompted me to rethink my dining choices, which then makes me rethink my park schedule. So of course I have made a few tweaks here and there. :rolleyes1 I will post more on the new schedule later.

WOOHOO for DDP!! :woohoo: I love the convenience of being able to order whatever I feel like without worrying about the cost and fitting it into the food budget. Can't wait to see your new schedule!

Yay for 30 days-less now :):yay::yay::banana::banana:

Hurray for the Dining Plan :worship:popcorn:::dance3:

I will have a new VB bag (my first) coming soon. My MIL bought me the mailbag in raspbery fizz

Woo hoo for adding the dining plan! I must say that I have always loved it -- it's such a nice feeling knowing that all the meals are paid for up front!

Yay! for adding the DDP!! I too love having the meals paid for up front and not having to worry about ordering the cheapest thing on the menu!
