We leave this weekend for our first stay at OKW. We have visited Disney many, many times in the past...but never when it is this chilly outside.

Does anyone know if the pools are heated? I need to plan for some time for DS and DH in the arcade if the pools aren't heated!

Thanks!

Yes, the pools are heated!! I remember i stayed at the WLV in January and you can see the steam rising from the pool but it was great to swim in it..so warm!!! Bring robe for when you get out of the pool!! BRRR!!!

Yes the pools are nicely heated. This is one of the things that we love about all Disney properties. They really keep the pools a nice temperature for everyone to enjoy, even during the cooler months. The same cannot be said for Marriott properties and others, where the pools are consistently cold. We just returned from Aruba staying at a Marriott Timeshare property (Surf Club) and the pools were too cold for my wife and mother in law. Really puts a damper on the trip. Have a great trip.

Thanks for info everyone! I feel better knowing we can get in for a quick swim if we choose, and not freeze!!

And great tip about bringing a bathrobe, Melinda! I will have to remember to pack them for us!

Excellent point and one of those small details that can make all the difference in the world! We never really planned to use our DVC points in the cooler months, especially during peak season, but after our first Christmas trip in 2004 and having pool time almost every day/night, we were hooked! The parks might be crowded, but the pools aren't and they are nice and warm!

when we asked the pool guy at okw last feb he said the pools there are heated to 80 degrees.

The pools are great in the winter, I wish they were cooled in the summer. If you go in August the pools are so warm they don't cool you off.

I always wondered if there was such a system that could do this?

I was told that the pool heating is OFF in the summer...it the HOT sun that warm the pools in the summer!!! :sunny:

we were at SSR just last month before Christmas and was told that the pool temperature was 86 degrees. It felt like it too - it was nice. But like someone has said above, better bring something to wrap up in quickley cause you will get chilly real fast, at night anyway.

I'm a pool guy, have a heated pool at home and I can tell you they are heated to much higher than 80 degrees. 80 degrees is quite cool for a pool especially in the winter months. We heat ours to 86 and that seems to be about the same as the pools at WDW. I was told years ago they heat the pools to 84. :confused3

We stayed at a Timeshare resort in Daytona before we went to OKW and we could not even swim in the pool at the resort in Daytona because it was so cold. It was the Ocean Walk Inn a Fairfield Resort.

We then went to OKW and the pool was so warm it was wonderful!

What a difference to our vaction the heated pool made. It is something you don't think about until its too late!

I love DVC!!!

I couldn't agree more, it really makes a huge difference to us. If the pool is cold my wife and mother in law won't go in, meaning I'm in the pool all day with my son. I love being in the pool with him but a little down time would be nice as well. The little things you get used to at WDW and DVC really spoil you. Other resorts just miss the mark. I was in the Turks and Caicos Islands at a beaches resort and the pool was like ice. I questioned the staff and they stated that "why do we need to heat the pools it is always warm?". Well the pools aren't warm. I don't even understand having a pool that is not heated. Oh and to answer an earlier post, yes they do make pools that cool down as well. Thanks for the post.

Here is a question a bit off topic, do they have pool towels at SSR and OKW? I know that they have pool towels at the BC and BW pools.

Yes!! :goodvibes

We were in the OKW pool 1/23. The air temp was about 80 and so was the water. Since the pool temp was warmer then the temperature of the water at our beach house during summer (LI, north shore) we chanced it. It was very nice to swim in January without having to join the polar bear club
