Healthy Living around the World Showcase ~ June 2016 WISH Challenge!

Happy Friday everyone! I hope that today springboards everyone into a great first weekend of the month. :D

I am working from home today as we prepare to head down to San Diego for the half marathon weekend. My brother is driving down from the Los Angeles airport around 1pm and then we're making the 2 hour drive south for a fab-u-lous weekend. This marks the first time I'm actually running a half marathon in my community - so I'm curious if being in a familiar climate will help me do better than when it's pouring rain (Nashville) or biting cold temperatures below freezing (Raleigh). We're looking at gorgeous start with 62 degrees at 615am and it'll be about 70 by the time we finish around ... 10am? There's 37 corrals and I need to push forward from 33 to 26. I just don't want to stand around and wait :rotfl:

I'll be on limited Internet access while I'm gone, so I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and you guys all report in with AWESOME numbers. I'll post the results of my race when i get home on Sunday.

:cheer2:Fingers crossed for a 3 hour or less finish. Come on 2:59:59!:cheer2:

Hi Everyone, Michelle here - Quick intro.. Mom of two grown ups (22 yr old DD in college and 19 yr old DS in college) and a pretty kitty name Hunny, and wife to my chef Hubs.. even though I marries a chef I still do the majority of cooking because I like it (plus I was a single mom for 10 yrs and had to do it so I just kept on doing it) never have been skinny but in 2010 was told I have type 2 diabetes, did atkins for a while in 2013 and lost over 30 lbs but that it too hard of a lifestyle for me and some came back .. However looking back since 3/2009 - now I have lost 38 lbs.. still could lose 40 more but I am just a Cheerleader this month... I love watching all your successes!!
Now QotD stuff..
Question of the Day – June 1st

Hello explorers! A new month and a new adventure has started! We have so much to explore in Epcot’s World Showcase and I thought we start with a little history.

When Walt Disney started purchasing land in Florida, his idea was not to build many theme parks there. He had far more ambitious goals. He wanted to build the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow: E.P.C.O.T. It was supposed to be place where the newest inventions would be showcased by American industry, where people would live in a way that was made possible by all the inventions and in a model community. If you want to hear more about this, listen to Walt Disney explaining everything about the Florida Project himself:

Well, as Walt says in this film, things changed, they changed a lot. And at some point it was decided that instead of building E.P.C.O.T., they would start with building E.P.C.O.T. Center as a showcase of innoventions and the World. This is how the concept of a theme park with two elements: Futureworld and World Showcase was born and then opened on October 1st, 1982. World Showcase is often also dubbed as a permanent “World’s Fair” – showcasing the culture of different countries around the world.

worldshowcase_helicopter2008ab.jpg

World Showcase opened in 1982 with nine pavilions: Canada, United Kingdom, France, Japan, USA, Italy, Germany, China, and Mexico. Two years later, the Morocco pavilion opened and in 1988, Norway joined the showcase. There are seven spaces for expansions remaining and expansions had been envisioned from the beginning.

So, with this we have introduced our adventure for the month, now it is your turn to introduce yourself before we start travelling around the World Showcase! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your motivation for joining the challenge? Which goals are you tracking? We are looking forward to getting to know everyone!

And as a fun question: Which is your favourite country around the World Showcase, or if you haven’t been there yet, which country would you be most interested in to explore?

I just love ALL of them .. I have never traveled out of the US (well I have been to Nova Scotia) so they all hold something unique and special to see, buy and eat! I find I spend more time in the Japan pavilion though..

so my WHOO HOO for Wednesday was that we finally got our final approval on our home loan - this had been on going for what seems like forever so we are elated! We actually will be closing on our new house on 6/9 at 4pm....

Question of the Day – June 2nd

We start our exploration in Italy.

600-italy.jpg

The advantage of virtual exploration is that we can pick whatever country we want to start in and don’t have to adhere to the normal entrances into World Showcase.

The reason for starting in Italy is that today is Italy’s Republic Day “Festa della Repubblica”, their national holiday. The day commemorates the referendum held on June 2,1946, in which the Italian people were called to the polls to decide on the form of government, following the Second World War and the fall of Fascism. The majority voted for Italy to become a republic and the monarchy was sent into exile.

So, this is a day when Italy celebrates a new start. On a far smaller scale, we should celebrate ourselves for embarking on our own journey towards a new and healthier life!

Yesterday we talked about about who we are and what our goals are. Today, tell us what makes this month a new start for you. What are you going to do different this month. Or are you keeping everything as it is? What is your plan for this month?

I will be status quo this month.. I did sign up for the new session of WW here at work (20 weeks) so that will take me thru the summer and into Oct - My birthday week :) My plan for the month is to get moved and settled into my new home.. that will include some planting and yard work.

Question of the Day – June 3rd

It’s time to explore the Italy pavilion! A big element here is food, there are two restaurants and a wine bar to be found in this pavilion. Now Italian food is often not known for being particularly low in calories, when we think of pizza or lasagna - which of course is being featured at the Italian pavilion, especially at Via Napoli, which seems to be a favorite amongst the WISH challenge people.

via-napoli-pizza.jpg

However, Italians have the second highest life expectancy of all our World Showcase countries (Japan has the highest). So there must be something that they are doing right! And that might be what is known as “Mediterranean Diet”. This is not a diet like the cabbage soup fad, but a diet as in cuisine, nutrition or such. It even has a status as a UNESCO Intangible Culture Heritage – so it is comparable to the status of UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Statute of Liberty, Yosemite National Park, Stonehenge, the Palace of Versailles or the Great Wall of China.

So, what is the Mediterranean Diet? It’s principal aspect is a high consumption of olive oil, legumes, unrefined cereals, fruits, and vegetables, moderate to high consumption of fish, moderate consumption of dairy products (mostly as cheese and yogurt), moderate wine consumption, and low consumption of non-fish meat and non-fish meat products. Does sound pretty delicious in my opinion.

And I am sure we all know of delicious dishes that fit this description! So, let’s share your favourite meals or meal ideas that fit into this discription! If you have a recipe to share, we would love to read it! Could you imagine following the Mediterranean Diet? Which aspects of it do you find appealing, which would you have trouble with?

Well I do like mild white fish and shrimp but don't know if I could eat it daily but I could eat each once a week I think.. I do like a more veggies then I used to, I am not big on cheese or yogurt - unless the cheese is on pizza or a burger, no just plain big ole hunk of cheese though.. Love me the summer fruits that are out now.. so I guess I could do 50/50 split.. I don't have any recipes that would fit this..

Happy Friday Friends.. Hope you all have great plans for this weekend - I need to get most of the rest of my current house packed since next weekend we will be moving into our new one!!! OMG sooooooooo excited it's finally happening.. Hugs and Smiles to all .. Michelle

I could do a Mediterranean diet I think - it's mostly things I like, but I would miss chicken/beef.

One thing that I've learned over the past 5 months is there are a lot of things that I like that I didn't grow up with. As a kid we never had salmon or tuna, but after giving them a shot recently, I do like them. My parents hate garlic and we never cooked with ginger, but thanks to Blue Apron I'm learning a lot and finding new ingredients to cook with.

Love the pic of Via Napoli - that was one of our favorite stops on our last trip and the one place where everyone agreed that we have to go next trip. The pizza was so good - we went after the Candlelight Processional last year and it really hit the spot.

Happy Friday everyone!! I haven't been working for a few weeks so its not a big deal for me lately anyway. But was super excited to be down 2.8 lbs this week. WOOHOO!! I am 35% of 8 lbs which I think I'm going to stick with for my goal this month. Will be solidly out of 300s with that but really just another 2.8 lbs will put me under.

Mostly the Mediterranean diet is pretty cool with me. I use olive oil quite a bit but my favorite is actually coconut oil though for cooking. It's better at the high or moderate heats. Olive oil is said to be best uncooked as dressing so I do that but occasionally do still cook with it too. I do like a couple kinds of fish, salmon and tilapia if they got a lot of lemon. LOL Shrimp I like too. Veggies I already enjoy moderate/highly based on budget. I've been trying to be sure I can fit lots of fresh produce in my grocery budget by cutting out a lot of the middle aisles. I regularly get canned tomatoes, salad dressing and our weekly spaghetti and sauce in the middle but mostly stick to outside. I could easily give up all meat but not sure I could go to only fish though. I have been more into beef lately than chicken/turkey. Trying to work at getting my iron levels up. Only recipe I think would fit that I've made recently is this from a youtube video. I wasn't searching detox just kale recipes. :) I love the citrus flavor. I didn't have pine nuts or olives on hand so I made it without. I'd probably skip olives anyway they aren't something I really enjoy.

QOTD: I have a Pinterest board dedicated to Caprese and can fix it many, many different ways. I have a specific Balsomic reduction I use, a reduction sticks better than regular Balsomic. And I have a favorite Mandarin infused olive oil that I always use, despite its hefty $30 a (rather puny) bottle price tag. The first time I ever had Caprese made correctly was at Brown Derby, and Flying Fish is the only place I feel makes it better than I make it myself. I love salmon... Only wild caught though as I'm a true Pacific Northwest salmon snob. I also like shrimp. I could eat a Mediterranean diet, as long my as someone else cooks it for me, or I only eat Caprese :).

We are headed into a weekend of beautiful warm weather. I have a wedding to go to tomorrow night and a little birthday get together for my ALS SIL Sunday night. Other than that it's mostly yard and house work. I moved to the Sunday morning pilates class b cause I want to make Sunday more peaceful and restorative, and thought that practice would be a nice way to start up the day.

Hope all have a healthy and happy weekend ahead of them!

Hey friends..... nice busy day at school so it went by quickly..... I'm working my online job now, so not a lot of time to chat. I have found that my 24/7 job really does require a lot of brain power, so other than throwing in some laundry or walking on the TM (DS just built me a walking computer station!!), I can't do much else without getting confused! And I really want to be sure I am giving WORK and my WW members my best, so I try not to do too much multi-tasking while working. I really do like the job and I want to keep it!

I had an okay loss this week, but I admit I'm holding out for a TOUCH more, so I'll take one more peek tomorrow. Normally I wouldn't tempt fate and I'd just try to be pleased with today's number, but I had a really salty dinner last night and didn't even TOUCH my second glass of water after dinner, so maybe I retained a little fluid? Maybe wishful thinking, but I'll take one more peek tomorrow anyhow.

Been really watching my carbs and haven't had an apple since last Monday and WOW, have I missed them! I had one today after school and it was delicious! Of course, the fact that I was ravenous didn't hurt!

Easy dinner here tonight....grilled onions, roasted cauliflower and burgers on the grill (beef for the men, veggie for me). I am so full.... but in a good way! Double patty, low carb roll, topped with grilled onions and some really horseradish-y mustard, pickles on the side and a nice serving of cauliflower.... YUM!

Off to work..... I'll be back in the morning to chat!...............P

Pizza night and movie tonight too taking DD to see Alice Through the Looking Glass in 3D, we watched the first one in theater in 3D too. I'll be sure to plan calories(have already left room for high calorie dinner without exercise calories added) and I'm also aiming to get into the gym before we go. It's a late movie for 3D choices included 4:05pm and next is skipped all the way to 9:35pm.

I better order the pizza and see when my friend can make it to gym this evening. I may not do all 3 miles. I want to get something in and then a shower before we go. hehe

Good Saturday all! Up and moving early around here for an off-season Robotics tournament. Plus it is town-wide yard sale day, so I'll probably stop and find some more junk to clutter my house... errr.... I mean TREASURES to bring home!:p

My scale sneak peek showed no improvement, so I'm officially reporting in that I am at 30% (although I didn't do the math.... that is a guesstimate), since I lost .9 and my goal for June was 3 pounds.

Off to enjoy my carb splurge for today (oatmeal) and head out the door!~ TTYL..................P

Question oft he Day June 4th

@JacknSally inspired me to this question, so we are going to stay a little longer in Italy. One of the features of the Italian Pavillion at Epcot is a mask maker’s shop. Accordning to the Disney Parks Blog
, Giorgio Iurcotta is a true Venetian Mask artisan and has been a part of a centuries-old tradition that is as colorful and complicated as Venice itself. He relocated to Florida from Venice, Italy, in 2001 to represent the company his mother owns – Balocoloc Artisans of Venice – and can be found quietly painting beautiful and mysterious paper mache masks inside a small shop within the Italy Pavilion.

vma485432SMALL.jpg

Venetian masks are a centuries-old tradition of Venice, Italy. The masks are typically worn during the Carnival, but have been used on many other occasions in the past, usually as a device for hiding the wearer's identity and social status. The mask would permit the wearer to act more freely in cases where he or she wanted to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. It was useful for a variety of purposes, some of them illicit or criminal, others just personal, such as romantic encounters.

While most of us would not wear real masks outside of Halloween and costume parties, sometimes we do wear masks in a metaphorical sense. Do you have any weight loss “masks” – and for what purpose. Do you find them helpful or not?

I know to a lot of you, that seems like a low goal - and honestly it does to me too. I know I've always heard you should aim for at least 10,000 steps per day, but this month especially that will be hard.

I read one of the articles on MFP recently which was talking about steps and where the 10,000 step goal came from .... it seemed to say that any steps are good and that the 10,000 appeared to come from the first step trackers that were made in Japan which cut out at 10,000 - it was saying there didn't seem to be any actual evidence for 10,000 .... http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/many-daily-steps-really-need-better-health/

Hi Everyone, I am joining in for the first time!

Welcome - glad to have you around :D

World Showcase opened in 1982 with nine pavilions: Canada, United Kingdom, France, Japan, USA, Italy, Germany, China, and Mexico. Two years later, the Morocco pavilion opened and in 1988, Norway joined the showcase. There are seven spaces for expansions remaining and expansions had been envisioned from the beginning.

As your official Aussie friend - I vote for an expansion that includes the Land Down Under!

Hello all,

For those that don't know me I am a 43 year old solo mum of 3 - DS 15, DS 12 and DD 12 - yep twins. As a child/teen/early 20s I could eat what I wanted and be skinny still - whilst I was active I wouldn't have said I was an exercise lover and didn't have to be. This set me up badly for later in life. So post kids and post relationship breakup which was just so hard - I turned to food to fill the loneliness. I don't really look at myself properly in the mirror any more and like Courtney - just am shocked when I see myself in a photograph! I joined these threads in January I think it was - possibly February this year. My motivation for joining is to work on me and find a healthier life.

I am just so struggling with a goal - I am feeling a lot of track and overwhelmed by it all - I was so excited to have a dietician and exercise physiologist appointment a month and a half ago now - but they were both a huge disappointment - the dietician essentially gave me a food groups brochure and said work it out yourself - Ahm hello .... if I could do that I wouldn't be in the obese category!!! I have tried different goals since joining - weight, activity, low cal breakfast, food tracking - but I am still the same weight and hugely disappointed in myself. I just don't know where to go with a goal this month - any advice will be appreciated.....

Delurked noob here sign me up! I may or may no have lurked in here last month... which is only slightly creepy.

Glad you stopped lurking .....

Yesterday we talked about about who we are and what our goals are. Today, tell us what makes this month a new start for you. What are you going to do different this month. Or are you keeping everything as it is? What is your plan for this month?

I am sad to say I am waiting for inspiration for this month ....

so my WHOO HOO for Wednesday was that we finally got our final approval on our home loan - this had been on going for what seems like forever so we are elated! We actually will be closing on our new house on 6/9 at 4pm....

Congratulations :cheer2:

Pizza night and movie tonight too taking DD to see Alice Through the Looking Glass in 3D,

Tell me what you think of it .... we didn't see the first one ... but we are thinking about this one - it helped that P!nk sang for the soundtrack DD and I are fans.

While most of us would not wear real masks outside of Halloween and costume parties, sometimes we do wear masks in a metaphorical sense. Do you have any weight loss “masks” – and for what purpose. Do you find them helpful or not?

This is a timely question for me - I kind of feel like I'm wearing a mask with you guys right now - just in that I am struggling to meet my goals each month and I feel a little like a fraud being here. I know I definitely want to change and know that I can be extremely determined and successful in other areas of my life but just can't seem to pull this together.

@ Flosbolna - I am definitely ok with doing September instead - it has been a really busy week. I will share a belated woohoo for last week. DS15 has been doing a special subject at school where they could explore an area of passion or interest and complete a project with the help of mentors from that field. My son decided to create a 2D platform game. He designed the whole thing - drew and animated the characters but needed some help with the coding. this week was the completion and celebration with his classmates. They had to present it and talk about the process and what they had learned. He can be a little shy but did a wonderful job of presenting and he had worked really hard on his game. He of course wants to pursue this as a career which is a little scary to me. But woohoo for him and all the other kids who were amazing also.

I'm taking today as a rest day from the gym. Maybe just play Just Dance with DD and my friend's son but I may also do 20 minutes or so on my exercise bike before bed while watching MASH(I watch..er listen to.. it pretty much every night as I go to bed). I'm finally watching Walt Before Mickey on Netflix so I'll see after its already getting late I might just do the exercise bike.

Tell me what you think of it .... we didn't see the first one ... but we are thinking about this one - it helped that P!nk sang for the soundtrack DD and I are fans.

I enjoyed it but honestly liked the first one better in a lot of ways. Some things weren't what I expected but it works. :)

Ok, I feel like I killed the thread with my QOTD!

While most of us would not wear real masks outside of Halloween and costume parties, sometimes we do wear masks in a metaphorical sense. Do you have any weight loss “masks” – and for what purpose. Do you find them helpful or not?

One mask that I used to wear was that I would not tell other people about my weight loss efforts. Once I dared to open up to my friends I found that it became so much easier as it helped me being more accountable and I got a lot of encouragement. I have one friend, who regularly invites us for brunch for her birthday. And she always makes sure that there is a large selection of really healthy food - and makes sure not to buy a croissant for me. I really love this!

So, for me hiding was not a good thing, but I can see that maybe in other situations it could be helpful.

This is a timely question for me - I kind of feel like I'm wearing a mask with you guys right now - just in that I am struggling to meet my goals each month and I feel a little like a fraud being here. I quoted both your comments as they kind of belong together. I am sorry that you feel like a fraud! And I am sorry that you thought there was a support system that would help you, but it did not.

First of all: you say you are still the same weight as at the beginning of the year. That is a great success! You did not gain any weight! You stopped the downward spiral. That is huge! Yes, you are not maintaining at the level that you want to be at, but it is not getting worse.

Overall, if you want to lose weight there is only one way of getting there. Eating less than your body needs. It does sound so simple, but it can be a struggle. I know this myself. See, I am not the big success story either. I joined these threads in 2012. I am 8 pounds lighter than I was when I started. I had my up and downs. And the one big thing that kept me going is that I know that if I give up, I will end up not back at my 8 pounds more, but at 80 pounds more. So, things stall, go in the wrong direction, I just start over again. Again and again, every month.

And it is not easy. But I know that you can do really hard things. I could also understand if your motivation to do hard things might be a little bit lower since you were forced to go through some really hard things and had no choice. I know that for me this would make me think that life is unfair and I need to get other things easier in turn. I am not saying that you don't work hard. But ultimately it is your own decision every single day as to what you eat. As you see from my meager success, I make a lot of not so good decisions about my nutrition on a regular basis. Yesterday evening was a black spot for me as well. One thing that really spoke to me was this graphic that someone posted quite a long time ago on one of the threads:

zoeypic.jpg

So, as to what you want to pick as your goal. I would say, stay away from a weight loss goal. How did you do with the food tracking? How did that work for you? Do you use MFP? Why not set it to maintaining, so it gives you your daily calories that you can use for the day without putting on weight. And then track your food every day and aim for the sum of all the food you ate to be below your maintenance calories. Don't aim for a specific deficit. So, the day is a success if you are 10 kcal or 1000 kcal below your daily allowed intake. Ultimately measuring everything you eat on a scale is best, but it is also ok to just guess things if that is not an option. Just keep tracking.

@ Flosbolna - I am definitely ok with doing September instead - it has been a really busy week. I will share a belated woohoo for last week. DS15 has been doing a special subject at school where they could explore an area of passion or interest and complete a project with the help of mentors from that field. He of course wants to pursue this as a career which is a little scary to me. But woohoo for him and all the other kids who were amazing also.

Thanks for taking September! And I am happy to hear that you intend to stick with us despite your current struggles!!

And a big woohoo to your son! It sounds like he has something that he has a true passion for! And I believe that those who succeed in a bit exotic jobs are those who are truly passionate. So, don't worry too much!

Since we had so few answers on the Saturday QOTD, I am going to skip the QOTD for Sunday. But I have a

Bonus Fun QOTD for Sunday June 5:

If you could add one country to the World Showcase? Which country would that be? Tell us what you would put into that
pavilion.

(And in case anyone does not remember right now which countries there are, we currently have: Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, United States of America, Japan, Marocco, France, United Kingdom, Canada),

AAAAHHH I just deleted my post! So I will start over

lol I thought it was me that killed the thread!

@Flossbolna - thank you for putting things into perspective for me - I love your diagram. I think I have decided to start tracking with MFP again - I was doing it but fell off the wagon. I can be hard on myself - and when I have seen any obvious results get discouraged. But you are right I have made changes. This month I will also try and be more positive.

Thanks for reassuring me about my son's desired career - it is nerve wracking watching him get ready to fly - but am oh so proud at the same time.

If you could add one country to the World Showcase? Which country would that be? Tell us what you would put into that pavilion

I did say the other day that Australia should be added - of course! It is tricky for me to say what should be in the pavilion never having been to WDW to know what is in the other countries. But here goes - some of our South Australian wine from the Barossa Valley region - Some of our beers - Definitely representation of our Aboriginal Culture - Dreamtime Stories and Artwork - Food - this is tricky - tim tams? lol a well loved chocolate biscuit, lamingtons (cake), pavlova (although I personally am not a fan of this desert), having a meat pie at the football is the equivalent of the US hotdog. I will try to post some pics so you know what these things are. Animals - here is a fun story from last week - DD was excited to tell me that a baby kangaroo was very close to her locker at lunch time - it was very curious looking and listening (ears twitching cutely) to her and her friend, with mamma kangaroo nearby eating grass and supervising!

Hmmm just looking at these foods its no wonder we are getting so overweight down here in OZ.

There are definitely times I have felt like I wore a "mask" for my WW members.... I used to feel like I had to be the "perfect" WW member in order to lead my group.... but I discovered it works better when I remove the mask and I am absolutely REAL with them. I think they enjoy it and it seems more RELATABLE that you don't have to be PERFECT to lose weight and keep it off.... and I'd rather be a REAL example, rather than a "masked figure" that defines perfection... a perfection that would be hard to emulate.

GREAT question!! I wasn't here at all yesterday after my morning post, so don't feel like it killed the thread! I'm sure many folks were just busy!

I was fortunate enough to visit "EPCOT Center" (as it was called then) in 1983, when it was still really new. It was just for one VERY RAINY day, but it was enough to make me want MORE! I remember seeing signs about which countries were "coming soon" and most specifically in my mind Africa stands out. While that would be really neat (and I've seen some small temporary African country pavillions there in the past), I think they have represented Africa well at Animal Kingdom (well... Africa is HUGE, so I'm sure it is not ALL represented, but still...). Hmmmm........I think maybe some of the island nations would be nice, as well as a bit more of Central/South America.... Brazil (they could celebrate Carnival!), Argentina, Costa Rica (stunningly beautiful and a HUGE emphasis on education are some of the claims to fame I've read about this country), and I've never understood why GREECE wasn't there! Greek food.... mmmmmmm!!

************************
Good morning friends!! Pouring rain here today will definitely keep us from yard work today, but that's okay.... there is PLENTY of cleaning to be done inside!!

I let myself have a lazy morning because they have been few-and-far-between lately.... but it is time to move!

I also realize that in my effort to present a PERFECT and BEAUTIFUL exercise plan, I failed to present anything. Yes, I am the person for whom this was written........
perfect.jpg

So here is my "good enough" exercise plan for June (and YES, I have pretty much kept up with it every day so far).

Daily: minimum of 10K steps (preferably hitting my daily Fitbit goal of 12,500) + 10 squats +1 minute plank or 1 minute of flutter kicks.

4 x weekly: 2 mile+ INTENTIONAL walk WITH run intervals (over and above any steps on the Fitbit)

YUP.... it's not much. I am almost embarrassed to post it. But I have fallen SO VERY FAR away from the regular exerciser I was for so many years on this journey, I feel like I need a small step to start back to a DAILY committment.

I missed my squats and plank yesterday..... just totally forgot. But I'll double up today to make up for it.

Off to be productive!....................P

Saturday QOTD: I had to think on this and then never got back to answering it... I think for me, carrying around the extra weight has always been a protective mask in itself. Particularly from intimate relationshipsvwhich I grew up understanding were pretty scary, based on what I love experienced in family life. Stripping away the weight leaves me fully exposed, which is very new.

Sunday QOTD: I've always had Greece at the top of my list. The buildings could be stunning, bright white stucco, the food offerings could be amazing, dancing for entertainment. I'd hang out there for sure. But sadly, having Norway back is now my top desire.

Hey guys! Sorry I've been MIA for a few days ... I let my schedule get away from me a little bit on Friday and I've been struggling to catch up since. I don't have the patience to reply to everything, so for now I'm just going to stick to answering the QOTDs...

I don't know that I would have a problem with the Mediterranean Diet, it's just not how I eat. I like fish, I like cheese and yogurt, I like veggies and fruits ... it's just not usually how I eat. I know that I could never fully switch to a Mediterranean Diet, but I think that if I take the time to sit down and look at recipes, I can find a way to incorporate some of these ideas into my diet.

This is a tough one for me. I don't really know anymore what's real and what's fake. I don't know if I'm wearing a mask or revealing my true self. I think that's something I need to figure out - take a good look at myself, see what's real and what's just a cover, and figure out whether that cover helps or hurts.

If you could add one country to the World Showcase? Which country would that be? Tell us what you would put into that pavilion.

This is a little bit of a cheating answer ... I want Millennium Village back. My first visit was in 2000, and I loved that there was one space with a variety of countries. I would love to see that come back. I think it would be even cooler if they changed the countries every few years. Not likely, but I think it would be a fun way to show the cultures of many different countries.

Busy weekend. My mother-in-law is in town and I had a 5k yesterday (in the rain) along with my daughters dance recital last night. Good times, but hectic.

Deep question - probably too deep for me. I don't think I wear/wore any masks during this process or before. I just liked to eat a lot of fattening food and not exercise!

If you could add one country to the World Showcase? Which country would that be? Tell us what you would put into that pavilion.

Good question - the first thing that popped in my mind was Greece, so I'll go with it. You could have the Greek gods/goddesses and the Greek food... it's a win/win.

Weekly check-in:

Started the month at 243 and the goal is to lose 14 lbs. Today I weighed in at 240 lbs - loss of 3 lbs which is 21% of my goal. So far, so good!
