Healthy Living around the World Showcase ~ June 2016 WISH Challenge!

Quick fly-by to tell you about a tasty new infused water I tried today! Apple cinnamon.... surprisingly delicious! I'm not big on "fruity" water.... I prefer either seltzer with lime or plain water.... but I saw this idea on Pinterest (where else?) and decided to try it today. It is really yummy! Much better than I thought it would be. I think the trick is to not use too much cinnamon. I just peeled and sliced up a half an apple (one of the older ones that had been sitting in the fruit bowl) and put it in my water bottle with ice water and a few sprinkles of cinnamon and let it sit for a few hours. DELICIOUS!.............P

Thank you for sharing this! We actually have an infusion pitcher, but we don't use it much because we find that anything with pulp, the pulp gets into the water. Apple doesn't have pulp, though, so ... maybe I'll suggest trying this and see how people react!

No WooHoos for me yet today, but we'll see. The day is still young, and there's time for me to think of something exciting that's happened over the last week.

Question of the Day for June 8th:

We are moving on to Mexico!! A very special pavillion as it is mostly indoors. A large Mayan Pyramide houses a night time atmosphere with an "open air" market, a restaurant along a river and a ride (not many of those around the World Showcase)!! The Gran Fiesta Tour follows Donald on his adventures in Mexico together with his two friends Panchito and Jose Carioca - toghether the three form the musical group the Three Caballeros!

And today it is time for our own Gran Fiesta! Let's celebrate Woohoo Wednesday! Share at least one thing that you can be happy about today, small or big! We want to hear plenty of woohoos today!!

Lots of great WhooHoos here today! I am trying to think of a good one but I guess i'll go with the fact that today I finally made the decision to drop Time Warner (bill is crazy at $185 a month) at our new house and go with Direct TV, we have AT & T so we can get a bundle deal $70 for 24 months and a $100 Visa card.. We will have to keep TW for internet but for us to transfer our current service - which now would cost full price $86 - I decided to get that in my name at the new address and it's only going to cost me $59 but then when I buy my own modem it'll drop to $45.. so we'll be saving just over $50 a month to start then will be closer to $70.. I also filled out our change of address form..

one last think def not a Woohoo.... I have 6 HUGE welts from sitting outside on Monday night (bug bits) and they are CRAZY itchy.. I have band aids on 3 as they are on the inside of my thighs and my pants were rubbing on them - Missed the one on the back of my leg however and there is one on my FOOT that is making me nutzo and the one on my back is not too bad.. O... M.... G..... I forgot at the beginning of the season that this happens to me, note to self for the rest of the summer load up on the bug dope before stepping outside!!!

Question of the Day for June 7:

But even if none of us lives in Norway, for all of us on the Northern Hemisphere, June brings long days and lots of sunlight. Do you make good use of the light? Do you find it helpful for your well being and healthy living or does it not matter.

I adore summer...... long days, early sunrises with the birds chirping outside..... THOSE are where my childhood memories lie. I've never been diagnosed with any kind of seasonal depression, but I'm POSITIVE I have a touch of it, at least. I can literally FEEL myself getting happier as spring turns into summer. I've got more energy, I'm more positive.... LOVE IT! The sun truly feels like "happy elixir" to me! I try to NEVER complain about the heat..... because I know that the heat means the sun! And then, of course, there is the fruit (as @JacknSally mentioned).... strawberries very soon, followed by a garden full of fresh produce, and then early August will bring blueberries!! We have several overgrown blueberry bushes that we are rehabilitating this year, along with planting 10 more. We also have one nice apple tree (grafted with several varieties) and we are putting in 2 pear trees and two peach trees this year! YUM!

WOOHOOO WEDNESDAYYYYY!!!! I have two!
1) YAY WE HAVE AC AT HOME AGAIN
2) my shop was featured on the Disboards Disunplugged podcast "DISPOP" this week!!! AAAHHHHHHHHH!!

Wow.... you are a DISBOARD celebrity!! ..................P

Magdalene - so nice to see you! I don't think I've ever seen a pic of you before! I like putting faces with names

Woohoo!!! My CPR certification is done for another two years!! Oh how I dread this day, the class overwhelms and bores me at the same time. But today it's done!

Tomorrow is my last of my busy day streak and I'm ready to slow down! Lol ! Sadly my gym time is suffering and my step count is not there today. Sigh...but I'm here and trying!

Great job everyone who reported progress so far this month!

I got back from Kansas at 1:30 this morning. The problem with flying to Wichita is that most airlines don't fly there directly. We didn't leave Wichita until 6 their time. Landed in St Louis and then had to fly to Newark. Everything takes twice as long at Newark. So by the time we got our bags, got the air tran then the shuttle, parking validated, got on the right road to hit the turnpike and then had to drive around all the construction on the parkway we finally made it home about 1:30.

It was interesting to see a different style of wedding. You could tell who was from Jersey at the wedding, they were the ones in the jackets and ties. The people from around there were much more casual. The highlight of the evening was when our grand niece threw up on dh right after he had her giggling.

We went to the zoo on Sunday, the botanical gardens on Monday and an outdoor cowboy museum and art museum on Tues. Going with dh is like going on a forced march. He never stops. The gardens had these beautiful benches to sit on and he never stopped. The zoo was almost 3 hours of constant walking. So what did I do this morning but hit the grocery store and spend an hour walking that to get us stocked up.

Off to get dinner.

Have a happy and healthy day

Everyone has some great WooHoos today!

I've got a couple too - we've had a really fun extended weekend!

1) Friday was DD's best friends graduation party which was so nice and fun. Saw lots of parents we hadn't seen in awhile.
2) Saturday was DD's graduation party and it all went off without a hitch. We served lunch and everything was ready and seemed to go over well.
3) Sunday we left for DD's freshman year orientation and registration. At the school where she's going, they have a 2 day orientation and it's a little over a 6 hour drive, so we went down Sunday for the Monday/Tuesday session. We didn't get home until around 8:30 last night, so it was a long drive for such a quick trip, but we had a great time!

Those are my WooHoos because we really did have a great time at all of them. The not so great part was that I got on the scale this morning and it seems as if I paid for the constant eating out over the past few days. I tried to make decent choices, but I know a lot of them could have been better. Hopefully since I'm back on track, the couple of pounds will drop back off without too much time. I really hope so, because we leave for vacation a week from tomorrow, so I definitely don't want to be up before we even leave!

It's been crazy busy around here and my daughter was home sick today, so I was struggling for WooHoos. BUT, tonight I did something which is a pretty big deal for me. I ran in the evening. I usually run while the kids are in school, but with DD home couldn't today. I usually would put it off for another day, but my new training plan has a purpose to every day, so no room to delay, particularly today, as Wednesday is a key day in my plan. So, off I went for a 10k at 630. I'm pretty shocked and pleased with myself I did it;)

Glad to read some great WooHoos! Congratulations @JacknSally!

This is my woohoo - I drafted a rigorous training program and did the first night of it (the 5K loop because for some reason I thought today was Tuesday). I feel like I needed to step up my training because I am just not getting to where I want to be. I took it easy tonight and just enjoyed the run.

And... I am noticing shrinkage of areas I'm super excited about. "The Girls" have gone down and now I get to go sports bra shopping this weekend. :D

Body Fat Percentage loss is real!!!!!!

Well one woohoo is that my water weight from TOM is going so I hope to see at least a .5-1 lb gone Friday. This morning was same as last Friday. My friend bailed on me tonight for gym and I decided to pass and get some stuff done. I'll ride the exercise bike 20-30 minutes before I go to sleep. My calories are pretty much right on my target anyway. Though I totally blew past the sugar/carbs today and only got 69 grams of protein when I'm aiming for 90-10 grams. EEEK

Good morning friends!! I didn't have time to check in at home before I left for school, so I found a computer for a few minutes so I could just say hello! Yesterday's step count was disappointing because I was on the TM for 90 minutes while working and I STILL didn't hit my goal..... goes to show what a sedentary day at work does! And granted, I don't walk fast when I am typing, but I tried to walk fast between calls. Oh well... better than nothing!

Eating has been good though.... low carb other than some SkinnyPop on Tuesday night. Hoping and praying that I am down another pound this week.... but I'd be happy with .5 !!

Made myself infused apple cinnamon water again.... let it sit overnight, so I'll be curious to see if it tastes stronger/better.

Gotta dash!..............P

Good morning, everyone!

Hopefully your Thursdays have been more productive than mine! I've been on a conference call this morning - so clearly I've been multitasking while on mute! (ha!) I've been on MapMyRun trying to determine if Denver or St Louis would be a better half marathon for October 16th. Yes, the races are the same day and I signed myself up for both because I just don't know at this point. The costs will be about the same with hotel and airfare - so really it comes down to what the courses are like. Do I run a flatter course at elevation or take on hills at less elevation?

RNR DENVER.jpg RNR STL.jpg

There's the courses in case if you're curious.

Tonight is Disneyland date night and I am looking forward to eating at the Jolly Holiday restaurant (Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup!). It's one of our favorite locations because you get to sit outside and have a beautiful view of the castle. And the people watching is phenomenal... you're essentially at the main hub of where all the different lands intersect. And you can look at everyone's shirts, watch flights break out, kids throwing temper tantrums, couples being romantic in front of the castle, and the baby ducks cross the road :)

I'll check back in later since our Question of the Day hasn't yet been posted.

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!!

If it wasn't the middle of football season I might want to do that St Louis run too. I just don't know how much training I could get done during the season. The area around SLU has some beautiful old buildings and the start has you going by Busch Stadium and the arch. Very cool!

Hey..... popping on while my students are in computer class, but I see we don't have a QOTD yet, so I didn't miss anything! I'm working tonight, so if call volume is light I may have time to pop on again during the evening. Otherwise I won't have time to say hello again until tomorrow. SO busy getting stuff done for my busy weekend.... DS graduates Saturday morning and then we drive pretty much straight from there to Massachusetts for the family wedding! I will find time between the two to change dresses and have a light lunch (I hope!). DS needs me to help him decorate his graduation cap tonight and/or tomorrow night too..... plus my dresses need to be ironed, DS's dress shirt needs to be ironed and he needs to pick a tie, and I need to bug DH about what he is wearing and get that ironed! And to top it off, I FINALLY have everything together for DS's graduation invite to go out .....two weeks late! YIKES! The party is two weeks from Saturday!!

Phew...... gotta go relax a bit while I have the chance!.............P

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!!

I train on hills by default, I live in a very hilly area. I actually prefer the changing elevations to constant flats. With my baseline being an asthmatic I am nervous about racing at elevation, so I personally would rather do the hillier course at a lower altitude than the flat one at atltitude. But you train in a flatter area and may have no issues with the altitude, so it's really all preference:) Good luck making a decision!

If you go for the hillier course, just be sure to train for it. A good bonus is that training on hills will strengthen you more and make you faster on flat courses:)

You're on your way to being able to handle your own for the half. You've got 4 months to ramp it up --- I think you could easily do the St Louis half in about 3:15 and we could run together. If you're in and do it, I will choose St Louis. :D

Tempting you -- are you in?!

This is exactly my conundrum. I'm used to flat courses so the elevation won't bother me too much - the hills are what slow me down. I'm starting hill training for the next 90 days - so ... I should be ready if I go that route. Decisions, decisions.

I have no idea on the courses, but I hate hills, so I think I'd go with the flat one!

Today's been a little slow for me activity wise. Work has taken precedence but I am very excited to see that our vacation shirts are complete! They are insane. I was looking for something simple and before I knew it they had evolved into this crazy concert T shirt reminiscent of the Beatles Seargant Pepper Album.

Hi all!

I'm new here, I hope it's not too late for me to join in. My name's Iona (Instagram = i0nar <- that's a zero) and I'm from the UK.

My journey towards fitness started at the beginning of the month when I joined the gym and my aim is to exercise 20 times this month. So far I've been swimming once, to the gym three times and to a class twice so I'm 6/20 of the way there.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all and to joining in with the QOTDs and challenges.
