HBO's Game of Thrones: Season 4

I agree on your conclusion about the finale.

And I'm sure hoping my "spoilers" in white DON'T show up -- so no one quote me, okay??????

I've read all the books and if I recall, those are for whom the bell tolls.

I think you may have some surprises on two counts in future seasons.

swandiver, I don't want to quote you in case your spoiler shows up when quoted, but have you read all of the books? I'm curious because of two names you've listed.

I wondered the same. I'm only just starting book five and already know which two you're talking about.

I'm rooting for seeing the one "boo-yah" death in the finale. I laughed out loud when it happened in the book and of course DH asks me why, then immediately says "Don't tell me!" because he isn't reading the books and doesn't want potential show spoilers.

BTW - spoilers in white isn't a good idea. It hides things for those who only read on the boards but the e-mail notification system strips formatting so it comes through clear as day for anyone subscribed to the thread.

Email, that's it. I knew I had seen the white type revealed somewhere before.

Okay...so basically covered a lot tonight...thank goodness. I did forget about 1 death...the 1st one tonight (in the snow by the 'tree')...but that set of characters and storyline bores me. My DD was upset though. I want to talk about stuff...but don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't watched yet. Like the Arya situation...what she did really bothers me. Anyway...so bummed the season is over.

I enjoyed the episode, too. I've only gotten mid-way through book 4 so some things in the episode were new to me. There are so many plot lines and characters I couldn't keep them all straight so I stopped reading for awhile.

I didn't like what Arya did, either. But, it does show how hardcore and emotionless she's become, which are only going to benefit her with the direction she's taking her life, so I think it was necessary that she did that.

I'm glad it didn't end with a cliffhanger or anything like that. I feel like some characters got closure with one part of their lives and are now about to begin a new chapter. It gives us a lot to look forward to next season. But I wish we didn't have to wait a whole year!

I loved what Arya did. Perfect revenge, why give them what they want after all she was out through.

What an amazing episode. So action packed and totally amazing. I really need to work on reading the books before season 5.

We loved it. I guessed who the invading force coming on the Wildlings were befor DH did. That's a surprise in itself as DH is always the first one to figure things like that out before I do.

I didn't quite understand at first why Arya didn't do what was asked. I understood it after DH explained it and it made perfect sense. But I could see how quick she had to grow up and how her life is being shaped.

I like the storyline with Bran, but I wish there was more time given to it to develop more. All of the other story lines have been getting a lot more attention and have been able to develop a lot more. Bran's almost feels like a filler.

color me another satisfied customer. :thumbsup2

Even though the fight between Brienne and the Hound never happened in the books, it sure made for a tenser ending to the Hound's storyline.

Also I believe the death in the snow near the tree didn't happen in the book. Another change I can live with.

However, the BOOYAH! death (or deaths) were right on the money.

I'm wondering if the character we expected to show up in the finale is just written out of the HBO series completely.

I thought Ayra did (or didn't do) what he wanted, because she wanted him to suffer as well.

But, my sister thinks, that she couldn't bring herself to do it, because she really did end up caring about him and she isn't really a cold hearted killer (like she was trying to be and like the Hound was)

I think the show was great. Do wish they would of had one little glimpse of Sansa. I am only on the first book.

I was thinking this too. But, I don't know...that doesn't completely feel right either.

Quick question for those that have read, or are currently reading them....will it be boring if I start the books now? I've watched each season....my son says I should read the books in any case. Any opinions?

I was expecting something very different for the finale...perhaps next season.

There are so many characters in the books that will never see the light in the series. The books are very complicated. I don't think you'll be bored. You will definitely see differences between the books and the series, but still a good read.

That death doesn't happen in the books.

I don't see how they could introduce that character, since the character hasn't done much in the books. Unless the showrunners decide to outpace the books, then I don't see her coming in until the third episode of season five.

But if they did that, then it'd throw off pacing and timing of the narrative. We can't be expected to believe the group finds her this late into the game, months after what happened to start all this.

In the books, killing someone who is going to die a slow death otherwise is called "the mercy". The Hound uses the term himself. What Arya did was most certainly cold-hearted. And the juxtaposition of her and Brienne, who did not want to kill anyone, highlighted it

I don't get all the disappointment over a certain character" not showing up. The past 3 episodes were the best since season 1 imo. There was not room for a single other thing to happen.

Okay...so I don't know who this female character is that you all are talking about. Can't remember.

Thanks Peggy! I'll have to get started right away.
