Have you used your DVC points at locations other than Disney?

I exchanged into Harborside at Atlantis when it was still offered with my points. It was a great trip, and the villa was even bigger than the DVC villas.

We've gone to Disney's Hilton Head twice.

We absolutely love the resort, and hopping over to Savannah.

I recently had work related travel to Destin so we also had a chance to drop by the Club Intrawest in Sandestin to look around. It seemed very nice, but I don't think you had beach access. I would stay there in a minute though.

That's as far as we've strayed from WDW also. We've been members for 7 years, and I confess that we don't even know how this whole exchange program works or where outside of Disney we could stay. We bought into DVC thinking of WDW stays only. Even HHI was a treasure we discovered after we'd bought DVC.

We are also using points this July for a stay at the Hollywood Hotel at Hong Kong Disneyland. You get length of stay tickets at Hong Kong Disneyland when staying on points, so that makes it a not bad deal for us (a family of four).

Hey cpbjgc, I have a question for you, about length of stay tickets, if I stay for 1 night, will I get 1 day ticket or 2 day?

Also, i am thinking to book 2 rooms there, do I have to pay 2 $95 transaction fee or just once?

Thanks.

The concierge collection used to have many awesome choices that are all gone now. We stayed at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs (gone), we stay at Shutters on the beach, Santa Monica (gone), the Grand Hotel in MI. (gone). We have used our points for cruises as well.

As I recall, you got tickets for the arrival day and the check out day. We stayed for 2 nights in total, but only went to the park on arrival night (we visited the Big Buddha that day) and then for the full day the next day. Our last day we hung out at the pool until we had to leave to the airport and home :sad1:.

As for the transaction fee, I think you would only pay it once. We had one room for the four of us, so I am not positive, but I think that if you book both at the same time, it'll be just one fee.

Have a great trip! We loved Hong Kong (and HKDL of course), it's a great place with lots to do, and we would go back in an instant (after saving enough for airfare of course:rolleyes:).

In 10 years of ownership, we've traded out twice; to Gatlinburg, TN and Sedona, AZ, prior to RCI. In both places our accommodations were much nicer than the equivalent WDW room. We traded out our first year since we bought DVC while in Disney in April (and so got current year use points, but our use year wasn't until October when we would be getting more) because we didn't want to do Disney twice in one year. The second time was about 3, maybe 4 years ago. Again, we didn't want to do Disney twice in one year and had extra points.

Dollar-wise, Dean is correct; exchanging isn't a good use of your points. I don't see the harm in trading out once-in-a-while.

We have exchanged through the Concierge collection to the Royal Garden Hotel in London, England, which was wonderful, and also the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, which was terrific also. Next up, this Fall we are doing a two night precruise stay at the Loew's Regency in NYC. It is a lot of points but it is a chance to stay in luxury properties for only the $95 exchange fee.

We did ATLANTIS too! (2005ish?) But the exchange must have been for a studio because we got an ordinary room in the Beach Tower. Oh please, please, bring Atlantis back!!
