Have you seen this?

Saw this yesterday on the news as well. I did watch the whole YouTube video. How scary for the family in the SUV. I agree that it seems to have all been started by the brake-checking cyclist. It's horrible that he was severely injured, but sadly, when you play with fire, you have to prepare to be burned. Did any of the news reports say why the bikers were filming in the 1st place? I thought that was odd.

The GMA article says it was a helmet cam - I know a lot of race car drivers, bicyclists, etc use them, so it may have been innocent (the videotaping). However, this gang has done this before, so maybe the videotaping wasn't so innocent.

If I my car was surrounded in the manner described in this story I would assume I was going to be killed and would have no problem using my car as a weapon against anyone in the group to get away. None of the motorcycle drivers were innocent and if they are hurt or paralyzed it is their own fault. If one member of the group started to slash the tires and beat the car everyone there who didn't stop him or leave is just as guilty as the one doing the damage. Sorry but all of them deserve exactly what they get whether it be jail or paralysis.

If I were with a group that started doing anything like that I'd either try to stop them or leave and call the police myself to let them know what is going on and who is involved. That is what I expect from every single biker involved in this incident.

The biggest mistake the SUV driver made was leaving the highway. It allowed him to get trapped.

They have several videos of their "escapades" on Youtube. In them, you can see them running red lights, cutting drivers, speeding on sidewalks, etc

I don't feel bad for the injured biker at all. I'd have no problem running anyone over that's brutally attacking my vehicle and attempting to get in and cause harm. If it's them or me, it's definitely going to end up being them. No question. Heck, if they were continuing to follow me during my escape I'd take no issue in attempting to swerve into them. None. This is nothing but self defense.

I'd agree that the SUV driver shouldn't have left the highway. Call the cops and keep driving until they get there. It's probably hard to think clearly when you're terrified and just trying to get away with a baby in the car.

These idiots give true bikers a bad name. Also, anyone reckless enough to cut anyone off then do a brake check deserves to be hit.

Also, keep your doors locked, this simple thing helped prevent a weirdo from getting into my car years ago, plus I carry a weapon, lol.

You wanna roll with little punks, then you may get caught up in their actions.

It amazes me that they don't think that unassuming people don't carry a weapon. Perhaps next time they do their antics, they may come across one. I would like to hope this incident will change their behavior, but I doubt it.

Nice. So glad they're making a future prosecutor's job that much easier.

Only on the Disney boards can you watch a video that clearly shows a group of bikers surrounding an SUV and terrorizing a family of 3 and still blame the driver for doing what he needed to do to protect his family and get away. Am I the only one who saw a biker get off his bike and reach for the car door before the driver even ran over anybody??

So you would respond to property damage with physical assault?

Can't watch vids.

But wow, I love that damaging a car justifies possible death. I will have to remember that here, with all the bad drivers in FL ;)

So you would be fine by being swarmed by 30 or 40 men with weapons, as they were attempting to slash his tires. You would sit there and just hope they go away. Noone can really be that ridiculous.

He had his wife & 2 yo in a car surrounded by thugs, I would run over whoever I had to to keep my family safe.

I think he should sue the gang for the physical assault & emotional distress.

NTW there is a FB page for the scum to help him raise money "Justice for Jay Mieses" - yeah that is where my dollars would go. I do hope he gets justice & they all do jail time. Scum from Lawrence!

The critically injured guy got off his bike to help the "bumped" guy up.

There is no "brakes" on a bike. It could have ended there with the cops coming since the wife obviously had time to call since she wasn't driving. you have a choice to not run over people. he had the sympathy to get off his bike and help his friend get up, didn't deserve to be run over. I hope the SUV driver gets charged with attempted manslaughter since that is what it was.

In addition to your grammatical error, you've made a huge factual one. This may be the most ridiculous thing I've read in quite a long time.

Forgive me if my question sounds overly simplistic, but in your opinion, since bikes have no brakes, just how does one stop while riding one?

Does someone know the condition of the SUV driver? How badly was he beaten? And if he were killed would the (possibly?) paralyzed biker still get to sue the SUV guy's family?

In our local MC shop they have a very prominent display set-up selling helmet cams. It is very very common, they only cost between $300 - $500.

Reading some of the comments on some of these articles :crazy2:

And the mother, 'where's the justice for my son?' Lady, IMO, your son got the justice he deserved. He's not the victim here. He's the criminal. He should thank his lucky starts he's still alive.

ETA: I've also seen it reported that the biker that is now paralyzed didn't even have a license!

If I recall correctly he got a few stitches and was released.

Well apparently you let an SUV hit you from behind :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I cannot believe anyone thinks MC have no brakes:moped::moped: Spoken like a true Easy Rider:thumbsup2

Maybe you just drag the soles of your shoes along the pavement at 90 miles an hour till you stop. So what if you end up a three and a half miles past your destination? ;)

:thumbsup2 I don't know how anyone could interpret the situation any other way. The biker definitely reached for the car door. I guess some people see what they want to see. :rolleyes2

It worked for Fred Flintstone so why not :confused3

This motorcycle driver who was injured has no drivers license. It was revoked several times as far back as 2007. He also has 5 outstanding warrants. This is from a local arrest:

" charged with operating a motor vehicle after license was revoked, illegal possession of a Class D narcotic, operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment and on five outstanding warrants"

Here is another video that demonstrated their behavior

But, but, but he's an innocent victim so all that doesn't matter!(said with major sarcasm)
