Have you seen this?

This was so far beyond "property damage". They were mobbing him and had knives. They clearly had intent to harm him. I find it odd when people make comments opposing something without even watching the video that SHOWS it happening. If you watched it, you might have a better perspective.

The video was posted by a motorcycle driver. They edited out the part where they savagely pulled him from the car and beat him. Also, watch their other videos. This is not the first time by far that they have attacked other drivers who DARE get near their little gang. They are troublemakers out looking for trouble.

Hey,

I can't watch videos. As in they don't play. I can click. And I can watch. But no vid. Just ain't happening.

And I'm not necessarily opposing anything, I just don't think whole stories come out. I guess I feel sorry for all injuried parties - weird me.

OK unsubbing now (wasn't fast enough).

whatever the bikers did until the point of the bump was being jerks, can't use any other words on this forum. But to take it to the level that he did by running over someone else.... that is just too much. It doesn't say if the SUV driver called the police or anything when it happens. The wife could have been calling as the bump occurred and the police could have been there. It's all so stupid and one innocent guy pays.
He was surrounded by bikers hell bent on hurting him! Lets see how you would have reacted in that situation.

After seeing it with your own eyes, its pretty clear what was happening.

The critically injured guy got off his bike to help the "bumped" guy up. There is no "brakes" on a bike. It could have ended there with the cops coming since the wife obviously had time to call since she wasn't driving. you have a choice to not run over people. he had the sympathy to get off his bike and help his friend get up, didn't deserve to be run over. I hope the SUV driver gets charged with attempted manslaughter since that is what it was.

You clearly have a different take on this video than I do. I hope you never find yourself in that situation. And yes, bikes have "brakes".

He may have very well been helping his friend whom had just been hit by the SUV and was laying in front of the vehicle injured.

How unfortunate his fellow gang members endangered him that way.

Where does it say they had knives ? They also did not attempt to pull him out of the car until after he ran over their friend and took off.

There was a 2 year old in the backseat of that SUV!!

One motorcyclist, who has been already charged, purposely pulls in front of the SUV driver and brakes. The SUV stops and SEVERAL bikers completely surround the SUV.

I cannot see on the video if tires were slashed or not, but if in a similar circumstance I would have gotten OUT of the situation ASAP!!!

I am sorry that the biker was so seriously hurt but I do not think the driver should be charged at all!!

The bikers DID in fact, pull the driver from the SUV and beat him in front of his wife and child. And that was in a largely populated area.

When they first stopped the SUV, they were kind of isolated.....can't imagine what they might have done to the man there. He had every right to fear for his life and gun the SUV to get himself and his family out of that situation.

One of the bikers was interviewed and admitted the biker who was rear ended did a brake check, which is illegal. The father feared for their lives, which is which is why he fled.

Regardless, if he was part of the group that surrounded the SUV he is not an innocent bystander. If he was innocent, he would not have been with that group.

If he truly was some bystander sitting on the side of the road and ran to someones aid there was still no intent on the SUV driver to do anything other than get him and his family out of that situation and in that case, stuff happens.

However, since y'all are referring to the first person as his "friend" doesn't sound to me like he was just a passerby hanging out completely out of the way, not involved in the altercation and ran to some strangers aid. I'm not getting that from the articles I have read and the video I have seen.

It's all a mess.

Sad that the driver's family had to be a part of it.

Sad that one of the bikers run over is probably paralyzed...

Google the story and read the articles. Several of the news articles report knives, tires being slashed, and the motorcycle drivers trying to open the suv doors BEFORE he ran them over. There is also another video that has been taken off youtube that was up before. He panicked and was trying to get away. Again, this behavior is apparent in some of their other videos. Mob mentality.

So you would respond to property damage with physical assault?

If my house was being egged? No. If (as in the video) I was being mobbed, window smashed etc....would do whatever it takes to get me and my family out of the situation. And I am not a gun person so I would have to use my vehicle.

First off if I was scarred for my life absolutely!

I just watched the video and my gosh, I'd only seen two clips this morning on the news. They only showed the bikers smashing the SUV's window and the one biker that looks like he started it all by stopping short in front of the SUV.

It was horrible to see the SUV run over the downed biker but you also cant tell whats going on when that happened in the linked video. They may have been trying to pull him out of the car then I would have ran too, to me there really wasnt any other option.

As for who posted the video on youtube they stated the SUV rammed through another "group" of bikers again.... BS! They stopped him and the guy tried to open his car door. Again I would have ran him over too if I had to.

Not that its something I would wish on anyone but I dont seen any fault in the SUV driver what so ever.

OH and yes bikes have breaks.... if you actually watch the vid again you can see his break lights and him looking back at the SUV while he's getting bumped! Wonder if they were doing this on purpose.

How do you think they slashed the tires of the SUV? With knives.

And it's pointless to argue with someone who thinks that motorcycles don't have brakes.

I am only going by what I saw on GMA and I have watched the videos. The original biker did pull in front of the SUV and brake, on purpose, and the SUV hits him. Then the motorcycles surround the SUV. It was reported over 30 motorcycles, but I don't know what the accurate count is. They did slash the tires of the SUV and he panicked and drove off. They did follow him for miles, twice more surrounding him, until the SUV driver got trapped. They smashed in his windows, pulled him out and beat him in front of his wife and child. Two of the motorcyclists have been arrested and they are still searching for a 3rd.

The wife DID call 911 to report the erratic driving of the motorcyclists. As did over 200 other people. This group is also known for doing this and did last year - surrounded a car and beat the driver (they also showed that on the news). The police were warned of their trip to NYC and were supposed to up police presence because of it (not sure if they did or not).

I don't know what I'd do, but if my kids were in the car, I think I would do anything I could to protect them and get us out of the situation. I do feel bad that the motorcyclist is paralyzed, but to be truthful that is a risk you take when you get your jollys from terrorizing other motorists. Even watching the video, I can imagine the fear the SUV driver had in those moments. Hopefully the motorcyclists have learned something from what has happened to their friend.

The legal analysts on GMA said criminal charges against the SUV driver likely won't happen as it is being viewed as a form of self defense. However, there is enough for the family to file a civil suit against him.

Two disturbing points
Why do you feel bad that the guy could be paralyzed? When one partakes of risky, aggressive behavior, there is always the risk of repercussions.

Second, it sickens me to think that the family can sue the SUV driver, just sickens me.

Thank you for the details from the newscast.

It's hard to describe. I guess it's more that the entire situation makes me sad, more than I feel bad for him. I have already said I think there is assumed risk with behavior like that. The whole thing is just sad. And scary. Even if they don't have regard for other human life, I do. I don't think the SUV did anything wrong and did what I think I would do, but it is still a sad situation.

As for the lawsuit, I completely agree with you. Here is an article/video from GMA this morning http://gma.yahoo.com/nyc-motorcycle...wont-walk-183504641--abc-news-topstories.html

They mobbed his car, had knives and were smashing his car and trying to open the door. You bet your bottom dollar I'd have gotten my family out of there.

Saw this yesterday on the news as well. I did watch the whole YouTube video. How scary for the family in the SUV. I agree that it seems to have all been started by the brake-checking cyclist. It's horrible that he was severely injured, but sadly, when you play with fire, you have to prepare to be burned. Did any of the news reports say why the bikers were filming in the 1st place? I thought that was odd.
