Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

My Mom had her second dose of Pfizer this past Friday. She had no side affects.

I had my first dose of Maderna last week Wednesday. I woke up this morning with the lymph node under the arm I got shot in swollen and a bit of discomfort from it. All other side affects that I had after the shot are gone now.

With the talk of the J&J/Janssen vaccine the 72% number seems to be coming up a lot. Quite a few doctors and public health officials are saying that people should just accept whatever they can get, and that the numbers may be different because of when in time the testing was done. It's been noted that they were dealing more with the newer variants that seem to be an issue.

And most importantly they've been noting that nobody taking the J&J vaccine has eventually died from COVID-19 as well as no need for anyone to be hospitalized.

I think part of the distribution strategy is to use the J&J vaccine in areas where refrigeration may be an issue with the extreme cold storage requirements of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Got my second Moderna shot 12 hours ago now. So far, only a sore arm. Some folks said they felt ill the next day, so I shall report back in the morning. The nurse giving the shot told me that moving the arm throughout the day would help with soreness. I did that but it's still pretty sore but nothing to complain about. Yesterday, our local hospital received an unexpected shipment and were able to give 1000 additional shots for folks without appointments, or for folks who wanted to move their apts. up. Vermont just opened up for teachers and others under age 65.

I get #2 of Pfizer on wednesday. DH is in a quandry...our county is offering the J&J shot on Friday instead of the Moderna/Pfizer they've been offering and they've opened up to Group 3 essentials which he is in. But he isn't sure if he should go for the J&j or wait until the whole state goes Group 3 next week and get the Moderna/Pfizer.

I would get whichever one I could get first. J&J is only one dose which is nice. It was also tested against several variants that P/M were not.

I plan to decline J&J. I want the higher efficiency even if it means a booster eventually. I think j&j is great for areas where you can’t get someone to come back for second shot but I’m gonna hold out for one of the others.

I got my first dose this past Friday of Pfizer. It was at 5pm. I felt good till bedtime and felt really sleepy - but it was the end of a long week and rainy - could have been anything. Saturday my arm was sore and by Saturday night I was achy - nothing I couldn't live with but just uncomfortable, mainly in my legs and the arm I got the vaccine in. I took my Tylenol and went to bed and Sunday I felt fine.

My next shot is at 5:30 on March h 26 - and I will admit I am scared because I have to be at work at 6:30 the next morning for a full day of physical inventory (in which I have a very active and key part), Certainly not the most ideal time but I wasn't going to turn down an opportunity to get my vaccines. I am 40 and had a mild case of Covid in Novembr so I feel like it could go either way.

This is his conundrum.

Sorry to say, but that’s a very misinformed decision.

There’s no study (that I know of at least) that has or is comparing the three vaccines that FDA has approved head-to-head. It’s more apples to apples comparison of the Moderna and Pfizer since the trials occurred around the same time. But, the J&J vaccine trial happened later during a time period with much more variants out in the wild.

J&J is ~70% effective (in preventing COVID symptoms) in the US trial population. This is by most medical and scientific guesses pretty similar to what the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines would have been like if they had conducted a clinical trial a month or two ago.

You can’t directly compare results from two different trials on two different populations at two different time periods.

Here’s an interesting study result from an Italian group.

The research group wanted to see how antibody levels differ after a 2nd dose of the Pfizer vaccine among different age, gender, obesity, and hypertension groups.
Older obese (BMI >= 30) male can have as few as 1/3 of titer than younger underweight (BMI <19) people. How this translates into real world immunity is, of course, unknown at this time. Hopefully, the study authors will follow all participants into the future to see they fare.

How this compares to other vaccines is also unknown as no studies have been published yet to test such questions.

received my 1st Pfizer shot on 2/8 with arm tenderness for 2 days after but no other after effects. My 2nd Pfizer shot 8 hours ago. Tried to boost my immune system with echinacea for a couple days before my appointment & took tylenol after I got back to my car. Hopefully I won't have to report any other side effects but I am trying to keep my arm moving.

Got my 2nd (Moderna) yesterday. Arm is a bit less sore than last time so far. Mild headache. Had chills for about 5-10 mins last night but went away. I did go to the gym shortly after receiving to do arm movements to see if that helped.

My husband got his a few weeks ago and no issues. His was the same as the first where he just had injection soreness instead of the whole arm. Along with his usual aches that got started by the shot as well.

His line of pharmacies that he works at were trying to only focus on the 2nd doses instead of having both 1st & 2nd as there'd be too many people. The days they offer a walk up clinic for the 1st doses are hectic. So we'll see if they keep that up after this first cycle.
