Have you ever tried Caviar? Do you like it? What kind and how

The first time I ever had caviar it was mixed with cream cheese and some green onion, it was used as a spread on a cracker. I loved it! I've also eaten it just plain on a cracker and that was tasty too. I understand why people don't like it, I even like anchovies which most people hate.:)

I don't get the general mistrust of anchovies either. To me it's a basic kitchen ingredient, and if I don't mention the anchovies, nobody knows they're in our food. Lots of salt and umami in a tin of anchovies. I don't eat them straight out of the can, though. :)

Tried caviar at someone's house during a Christmas party. Thought it had ZERO taste and was VERY salty. No idea what some consider it a delicacy. Never had it since and would never buy it.

I've eaten anchovies straight out of the can, or even on top of rice.

If figure if I'm going to use anchovies as an ingredient (and in cooking they tend to break up into little bits anyways) then a cheaper anchovy paste might work better.

Flew first class once where they had Sevruga caviar. It was served with cream cheese on crackers. It was interesting. Nobody else wanted it so I basically could eat the entire jar if I wanted. Can't say it was anything other than an acquired taste, but a lot of things in life we like are acquired tastes.

Salmon or other fish eggs aren't necessarily the same thing. I've had sushi with various fish eggs, including flying fish roe.

I learned that on this thread. I didn't realize caviar was brined....so I haven't tried it!

I've never tried it, but I imagine it would go something like this... lol

I've seen some stuff sold as "caviar" but it's salmon eggs or something similar.

When I was a kid I remember fishing and using dyed salmon eggs as bait. One brand was from the "Cossack Caviar Company" and their bait was apparently from eggs that weren't physically perfect.

I have...some is better than others, but I don't know much about it beyond using a mother of pearl spoon for serving, so you don't taint the flavor of the eggs. The best combo I've ever had with caviar involved brie and French bread. Runner up is this smoked salmon flatbread at California Grill.

I have eaten it. Several different kinds. It's okay. Not my favorite, but sometimes good (if consumed in a quality restaurant).

Hated it! Remember that scene in "Big" where Tom Hanks wipes his tongue with a napkin. That was what I wanted to do. I don't like fish. Not surprised I didn't like caviar.
