Have you ever had Castaway Cay cancelled?

This is big concern of mine -- getting on the cruise finally and then not getting to Castaway Cay! What do they do with you if you can't dock at Castaway Cay? Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I have never missed CC, but I have heard that other people have. Because of rough seas. I guess it is not the easiest place to get into for the ship. If you do have to miss it, you get another day at sea. FYI, none of the ports are guaranteed.

In February 2002 we missed Castaway Cay because of really bad winds. They tried to dock the ship multiple times, but finally gave up. It was very depressing watching this from our verandah.

Next they tried to take us to Freeport, but even with tugboats we were not able to dock. It turned into a day at sea, which was still fun, but everyone was disappointed about missing Castaway Cay. They reprinted the Navigators and added more activities, but I don't remember what they were.

We missed it in Sep of 1999 due to Hurricane Floyd. We went to Key West instead and still had a blast. DCL had arranged with vendors to supply shore excursions. You would have never known at the time that Key West wasn't a regular stop.

the first time we cruised 98 the hurricane ruined the island didnt get to go, this past march didnt get to go winds were too strong, in april we made it but it rained just about all day,

we are 1 for 3 on making the island...our good friends are 0 and 2. Because of this...it's doubtful they will ever go on DCL again. Both misses were in January (2000 wonder & 2003 magic).

Our 2000 sailing we went to Key West...2003 day had an extra day at sea.

It was very difficult to see the island sooooo close and not step foot on it.

If you want some encouragement....Barb and Tony are (I think) 32 for 32....in making CC.

Bengals...You are batting a thousand.
When are you cruising next?

We were not able to go to Castaway Cay in August 1999 due to Hurricane Dennis (or maybe it was just Tropical Storm Dennis). Anyway, it was enough to keep us from visiting the island.

We got back and booked another trip because we just had to see Castaway Cay. We have made it the other 4 times!!

I would add in we have missed CC once in our trips, also due to a hurricane that had trashed the island. Now about January being a bad time to go, I would comment that it can also be quite cold, even down there, at that time of year. We were there in Feb and the bulk of the people didn't exactly have much fun with the water.

Who would even want to think about this happening. That only happens in nightmares. We are 1 for 1.

i forgot to mention the other 9 times we made it to castaway cay, will be going again in september

actually it's 33 of 33

seems like Jan, Feb and March have the highest chances of not docking due to the winds from the winter cold fronts.

Im just curious -
How many times a year do you have to go to have that many under your belt?
Do you work on the boat or have a special reason to go so frequently or do you just love it?

We had our CC day changed on our 1st DCL. This was b/c Nassau had a holiday the day we were supposed to be there & Disney wanted to make sure we'd be able to get the most out of the port (shopping, etc.). Luckily, we got to do both. This was a Sept. trip.

We weren't able to stop at CC on the Wonder this last New Years cruise. I was very disappointed but they added some things and gave out some drinks free during the show that day. Oh, this was due to high winds. I believe they tried to dock 3 times before they gave up. That afternoon we saw Captain John personally going up and apologizing to people. He was very nice. I know that I heard someone at the disembarking talk make a STUPID remark about "well YOU didn't pay XXX amount of dollars!" after the cruise director was talking about not being able to stop that day.. How RUDE! We were ALL disappointed but such is life!

We always go the last week of July or first week of August and we always get to go to CC. I can wait till August 2, 2003.
