Shampoo and conditioner bottles broke inside the "toiletries"/swim bag which we had checked. The bottles (plastic) were cracked completely through. Thankfully, those bottles and the other toiletries were in the zippered ends of the duffel.
The lesson I learned is not to check the piece of luggage with toiletries. I now create a carry-on with all of the meds, toiletries, etc. that remains fully packed all the time. Since you're allowed two carry-ons, my husband carries the heavy toiletries bag and the kids each have a carry-on with their swim gear and on board activities. I carry the important papers in a MK bag and a separate tote with the adults' swim gear, camera, etc. That leaves one or two suitcases to check. The upside is we always have at least swim wear and our necessities for showering, etc. in the event our luggage is waylaid.
