A few yrs ago, we were "upgraded" at AKV Kidani. I didn't consider this a pixie dust upgrade. It was not due to a maintenance issue.
I had booked my stay using my two memberships which resulted in a linked reservation. Several times I had contacted MS to confirm that I would not need to move within my stay. They reassured me as they did when I checked in at the beginning of my stay. They did however, ask that I come back down "anytime" that day to get my new Keys. Apparently they couldn't code my Keys for the entire stay. I had problems with AKV since it opened so I wasn't too surprised. But no big deal.
The night before we had to check out/in, I decided to go to the front desk to get a list of my charges. I was walking by and there was no one there so I said why not...
When they looked up my room, they said that I would be moving to another room tomorrow...I explained everything to them and she went back to speak to a manager. When she came back, she said that my 1 bedroom villa was "promised" to another guest. Not sure what that meant. But that they could upgrade us to a Grand Villa. I actually said no immediately. I don't like moving and why can't they put those people in the Grand Villa. Why uproot my family to accommodate someone else. Plus, my 1 bedroom wasn't one of the best rooms or anything to that effect. I also mentioned that we had plans to leave tomorrow and did not want to be troubled moving our things.
She suggested we take the room that night and she would just switch us over without any issues. My husband came over and asked what was taking so long. I explained it to him and he was not that happy either, but he said it was fine. I was still upset about it, but I agreed to do it.
They provided our Keys and sent bell services to help us move our luggage. My children were excited and was happy about the whole thing so I felt better as I was telling them. But little did we know it was a Grand Villa so far out that we didn't realize the property went that far....
Lesson learned, do not have linked reservations at AKV. I was very concerned about what they would do about the points, but they removed the points, put it in holding, then charged the same amount again.
