Have any of you known of a man donating hair to Locks of Love?

My dd13 had alopecia areata. I haves seen a few boys with wigs. Most of the kids I have met who wear wigs get them from www.childrenwithhairloss.us, the hair club for men's kids program, Pantene, and wigs for kids. They are all programs that provide quality free wigs for kids with hair loss for any reason. I believe they all accept hair donations. At one point my dd received a stock wig in a few days from children with hairloss followed by a custom made human hair wig. Since then her hair has grown back for the most part. My dd9 donates her hair to them.

My DH has donated his hair probably 4 times now.

My Nephew donated his in honor of our granddaughter when she had cancer 6 years ago. She was diagnosed when she was 8 and is a 6 year survivor now.

I know three men that have donated their hair! Two of them have donated several times.

My husband did this after our wedding. He only waited until then because he knows I like it long, so he left it that way for the wedding pictures and then cut it - from mid-back length down to about 2"! :-( He's got naturally curly red hair that most women would die for, but it is fairly high maintenance for a guy who works a physical, all-weather job so he's kept it short ever since.

My son donated his hair. He grew it just to do that.

My DS had long hair throughout high school. He had it cut before graduation and donated it. He got a bonus point from the NHS service committee for it.

My son grew his to donate from the time he was almost 9 until it was long enough at 11. He says he wants to grow and donate again but is torn because he hated the upkeep (read - washing) of long hair. Now that it's short he says washing is so much easier. I think he'll still likely do it again at some point because he feels good about it.

Update to this thread!!!

2 1/2 years later and DS28 is ready to cut his hair to donate it. Here is what his hair looks like right now. I braided it so I could see the length without the waves in it.

He wants to get it cut short for the summer and then start growing it again so he can donate again. I love his hair because it's so thick and healthy and has natural highlights.

I've donated my hair twice (I'm female). I know of a second grader who recently donated (male). He had beautiful ginger naturally curly hair... he is the sweetest kid! It was SO long that I asked him about it once near the beginning of the school year and he told me he was growing it to donate it... and he donated about 2 weeks ago!

I think my DS will contemplate donation when he is ready to go short.... but for now he LOVES his long hair (he is 18 with naturally blonde hair that is nearly below his shoulder blades). Great question, BTW........P

My DH has donated his hair to Wigs for Kids a couple of times. He won't donate to Locks of Love because they charge patients for the hair.

DH is Vietnamese and was told that the hair from Asian donors makes for great wigs. He has been donating his hair every year for many years now. He grows it out all year and then gets it cut to donate and starts all over again.

Disclaimer: I'm not taking a position here, just presenting some information I've stumbled across. I don't claim it's accurate, or a reason not to donate hair to Locks of Love.

Locks of Love sells much of the hair donated to it. Forbes and the Huffington Post claim that up to $6 million worth of hair donations is unaccounted for.

LoL claims that hair is sold to fund their operation, making of custom wigs, and alopecia research.

I think it's great to donate hair for a good cause, and I've done it myself. However, now that I know that they sell grey hair as "unusable", I'm a little annoyed that I wasn't told that when I donated it.

I heard the same about Locks of Love, so last year I donated to Pantene Beautiful Lenghts
