Haunted Mansion problem today

Love HM.... but would hate getting stuck on it by the knocking doors. we were stuck once for a few minutes.... probably just long enough to load someone in a wheel chair... we were near the raven.. could be kinda scary for a little kid. we just tried to look for other things.

I'd kinda like to get stuck in there, given long enough I might finally manage to get a half decent (non-flash of course!) photo in there!!!

I'm with you! We got stuck on Toy Story Mania when we were there last August and I got some really cute photos in there! Also, had fun playing the games over and over again! Actually, that was one of the best experiences we had there last year! I would definitely use it as an excuse to whip out the camera!!!

We got stuck on the Buzz Lightyear ride at MK for about 20 mins. We were able to get the max score. We also got stuck on the sarfari ride for 10 mins waiting for an ostrich to finish his nap in the middle of the road.

Years ago we were in line for Space Mountain and it got stuck. They had to turn on the lights for about 5 mins. That was scary. You don't realize how high you go or the amount of twists and turns you take in the dark. But I rode it anyway.

All of this has made me think back to the time that my family was stuck on an attraction at WDW. Now, while I do sympathize with those stuck on It's a Small World, I think that our own experience was even more torturous. We were stuck on Carousel of Progress, in the turn of the century room, for four plays. Finally, when my husband was about to pluck his eyeballs out, they let us out. That was the only neat part, seeing the behind the scenes stuff. I still can't get "It's a great big beautiful tomorrow..." out of my head!:cool1:

My son (5 at the time) and myself were stuck on Buzz Lightyear for about 15 minutes. They left the guns on though.

TOP SCORE!!

We stopped VERY BRIEFLY on Buzz Lightyear our last trip - couldn't have been more than a couple of minutes. My hubby hit every high scoring target in sight - his score was 999999 (the highest the scoreboard would go) by the time the ride started back up. He's never let us forget it...

I guess I feel kind of the same way, I don't even know how many times I have been stuck on Test Track from a couple of seconds to well over an hour... I think it's so fun! I feel like I know this ride so well now.

We got stuck on Test Track too. It completely stopped for a couple of minutes, then when it started back up it was going very ssslllooooooooowwwwly - through the S-curves where you are supposed to feel the G-forces! We thought it was pretty funny. Couldn't have been going more than 1 mph.

I don't understand why she was freaking out, things like this happen from time-to-time. I hope the rest of her trip was great and she can get past the ride interruption on Haunted Mansion.

Part of me really wants to know what caused the holdup.

I doubt it was terrorists, unless they were hoping for target practice. (Think ducks on a wheel at a carnival.) Terrorists would wait until the cattle were herded for fireworks. Then no one will hear the gunshots.

Ok, I've been stuck on the Haunted Mansion for a longish period -- but my only thought was, "dang, why couldn't it be in front of the ballroom scene." I did get to spend some extended time next to my favorite "donald" chair. . . It was one evening after a convention. I texted my daughter back home while sitting there - when she told my husband, he said, "Was she in front of the ballroom scene -- they are never going to get her to evacuate if she's in front of the ballroom scene. . ." I could easily sit there for an hour. . .

I could have written this! :lmao: And my husband would have said the same thing.

Now see it just goes to show... you know the rest of the cliche ;)

If I had to be stuck on this ride for that long I would want it to be on that scene, well that one or the ballroom... though I still think I prefer Madam Leota (sp?) since she's my favorite.

We got stuck on HM for a good twenty minutes once. It wasn't in a good spot either, it was in the room with the psychic in the crystal ball. Had to hear her spiel over and over again. lol. DD memorized it.

It was a long wait.

::Taking on my old war veteran trading war stories tone:: ;)

My dad actually topped this - he was at a county fair when the Ferris wheel came off it's moorings and rolled through the park - killing everyone on it, and several folks who had gotten in it's way and hadn't been able to get out in time.

Honestly, being stuck on HM wouldn't be that bad;excepet if you have someone waiting for you outside and wondering why you aren't coming out. I would have probably taken a nap in the nice AC.

When I was 5 I got stuck at the very top of a double farris wheel. I can't remember how long exactly, but a nasty storm came in, strong winds with black clouds. The tornado sirens were going off the damn thing was swaying sideways in the rain :scared1:

Last year I went on a smaller wheel at Dollywood and started to have a panic attack. I kept my eyes closed and said I would never ride another one again!!!!!!!!

To this day, I get goosebumps just loooking at one.

OMG! :scared1: You win.

We were stuck on TTA for about 40 minutes on one very cold February day. Luckily we were in one of the tunnels, shielded from the wind. We asked one of the CM who was walking briskly by what happened and he told us that someone had jumped out of the ride, and when that happens they have to walk the entire length of the track before they can evacuate the ride and restart the system. I had my 3 and 4 year olds with me and I just kept hoping that they wouldn't have to use the bathroom any time soon! After about 40 minutes a CM let us out of our cars and took everyone for a long, cold walk down the track and through an exit into one of the stores. Perhaps something similar happened on the HM?

Yep, I saw footage of that one on the Simpsons. ;)

Oh, but speaking of ferris wheels, this WOULD freak me out. Click here to see a real-life ferris wheel horror story in Russia. It's at a closed theme park where some kids managed to turn the ferris wheel on, and one is hanging from one of the cars. Don't watch it if you're sensitive; it's not gory or anything like that, but it's disturbing because the other kids do nothing to help him. They just tape him all the way up to and including his fall, and then they seem to be laughing about it. And we think line cutters and pool hoppers are bad...I can't even imagine what else goes on in Russia!

I would love to get stuck on that ride, it is one of my favs :lmao:

Last year we seemed to get stuck on everyride we went on , happily only for a few minutes on each one, until Maelstrom, we were stuck on that for about a half of an hour, and they finaly had to turn on the lights and walk us out, we were at the very top, where you are backed up to the outside, It was very cool to see the ride that way. My DS and DH really enjoyed it. ;)

I agree, that would be a great ride to get stuck on. I think what happened is either someone passed out on the ride or malfunctions. It is probably the earlier of the two.:thumbsup2

Then she said there were CMs running by the seats they were sitting in and telling people to stay seated. She said they were stuck there for an hour and five minutes.
If there were CMs in the ride path they were doing what's known as "running an intrusion". Sometimes foolish guests get out of their Doombuggies and trip strategically placed alarm systems. When that happens the ride immediately stops and a CM is dispatched to the area to check out what happened. I can believe that happened... but I simply can't believe she was trapped on the ride for over an hour. I have friends at the HM; I'll ask around to see if anything happened on the 20th.

If I was stuck on a ride for over an hour, I would not be happy. I think the OP's friend had every reason to freak out. It sounds like she does not visit often, it is the busy summer season and she had a child with her. I had to plead with DS(6) to ride HM. He did not like it at all-it was scary to him. He would have totally freaked out if we were stuck on it for 10 minutes much less an hour. And you freak out when your kid freaks out. To have CM's running around would be a little concerning also. A little communication would have been nice and I see no reason why the people could not have been let off the ride. That's a long time to just sit there.

It would not ruin my vacation but I can see calling a friend and telling them about it.

Finally someone with reason! I agree with you! What if she was riding it to conquer a fear? Getting stuck on it would make matters worse! What if they were riding it while waiting for an ADR? Stuck for an hour means you're late (I'm sure if that happened, folks would still be accomodated)! All kinds of situations. Everyone's different and even adults are afraid of the dark! If she felt she had the right to freak out, more power to her & I hope someone was there to offer a hug. Most adults wouldn't freak out, but everyone is different!

I've been stuck on HM in the same place my last 2 visits to the park. Right there where someone's trying to get out of the coffin. The first time I was alone so it wasn't terrible. A little freaky, but doable. The 2nd time was with my family. Fortunately it was a less than 5-minute wait.

Been stuck on Buzz, too. Top score for me, too!!
:woohoo:

I hesitate to tell this story, but I am not a person to freak out, but this moment changed my life forever.

We were at the Magic Kingdom last year for extra magic hours and it was passed 1:00am. We went on Small World and something just didn't feel right. I had a very sad and scared feeling. I didn't know why this would happen on this ride.

I brushed it off and thought I might be having an anxiety attack. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and I saw horrible visions of a young girl screaming and crying for her parents.

I opened my eyes and saw the same girl in various positions throughout the ride. When I first saw her the ride stopped and she was standing among all the dolls screaming for help and crying. I looked at my wife and daughter and no one else saw her put me. I was starting to lose it and shouted out to her what is your name.

My wife was mortified as was my daughter and asked what I was doing and that I was embarrassing her. I didn't say anything to my wife but did get the girls name.

She told me her name was Laura Walmar. I remembered the name and found it on the internet. I found a newspaper article telling the story how Laura Walmar died on a ride in Disney World 10 years ago. The ride she died on was not Small World, but I fear her soul is lost in the Magic Kingdom and she can't find her way to the next level.

This is a true story and one I will never forget.
