Haunted Mansion problem today

Definitely not a freak-worthy experience. Annoying? Yes. Miserable if you happen to have to go potty? Yes. But nothing to freak out about. I'd like to see them in the situation DH and I were in a couple weeks ago. We were riding SheiKra (200 foot dive coaster at Busch Gardens). It was drizzling as we left the station; we made it up and down the first hill, then made it to the top of the second one and stopped cold. It had started to POUR right before we stopped. So there we are, sitting on the brake run at the top of the hill and then the thunder starts up, plus we're all soaked to the skin. We were only up there 10 or 15 minutes, but it felt like eternity in a thunderstorm. They did get on the loudspeaker to say that the ride had "ceased operation" and that they were assessing the situation, but I don't know what caused the shutdown. People were really pissed because the cellphones in their pockets were soaked. They gave everyone two re-ads as we exited.

The Haunted Mansion has stopped every time I've ridden it recently. Usually only for a few minutes, but sometimes a couple times in one ride.
It just happens.
It's also possible that people were getting up, which may have made the stop longer than it would have been if people would have just stayed seated.

Me too! The past three years every, on every trp, the HM stops at some point. Usually for a few minutes though.

One of the trucks ahead of us stalled out. We then had to sit there for 20 minutes until they could get it out of the way. Between the spot it was at and the animals, it apparently took a little while. It would have actually been pretty cool, but we were stuck in spot where there was nothing to look at. Even our driver was about to lose it from boredom.

I would say after you managed to get stuck on the least likely ride to get stuck on, probably pack it in for the week and try again next year, haha!

I've been "stuck" on Kilimanjaro Safari several times! If an animal decides to lay down in front of your truck you are stuck. This happened to us with one of the rhinos and one of the giraffes. We were stuck for a good 20 minutes each time. The animals have the right of way there :rotfl:

I would def freak if I got stuck on tot for an hour!!! :scared1: :rotfl:

One of my best friends rode TOT for the first time in 2000 I believe (He wasabout 17). He went with his brother and he had been warned that once the elevator moves forward and then stops that you drop. Well the elevator moved forward....then it stopped....then it stayed there...for 20 minutes! :scared1:

He said it took 15 for anyone to tell them that they werew stopped. He was freaking and rightfully so! They evacuated them, but I have no idea how.

I have been stuck on:

Splash Mountain
Space Mountain
Pirates of the Caribbean
Spaceship Earth
Maelstrom (right at the "You are not the first to pass this way" part, it ALWAYS makes my mom and I burst into fits of giggles now!)
Haunted Mansion
Its a Small World
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Expedition Everest
Test Track
Soarin
The Great Movie Ride

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head!

I actually enjoyed being on a stopped ride - two trips ago... we were on The Great Movie Ride...a doofus was taking flash photos -- had been warned twice, the first time very politely, the 2nd time not so politely - 2nd time it was "Sir you have already been warned about the flash. Turn your flash off now." The third time, the CM doing the "tour" stopped the car near an exit, hopped off, went through the door & we just sat about 5 minutes. She came back with 2 WDW security guys & they escorted the guy & his family off the ride...doofus just kept saying "what? What?" while his wife was yelling at him non-stop about how he wrecked it for the kids. We applauded the CM as she got the ride going again.

Trying being stuck at the top of the lift hill on Batman the Ride at Six Flags in New Jersey. Now that freaked me out. 1 hour sitting there while they pulled this "bridge" up the lift hill so they could manually release our safety bars and walk across the bridge.

I love roller coasters, but have a fear of heights and open grates. I was not a happy camper after that. And if I remember correctly Six Flags did nothing...not even a front of the line pass!

:scared1:

Yes, rides stop but I think the OP's point was the amount of time stuck on the ride.
To be honest, I would freak out a bit because I could easily think of some "worst case scenarios" while I would be sitting there letting my imagination run wild as to the reason we were stopped so long (fire, crazy person running around, etc.).

That's what I was thinking. I work in an elementary school and have had to go on full lock down a couple of times. I think it would be the same feeling. You're having to stay still (not hidden in the dark like a lock down, but still having to stay seated) You know *something's* going on, but you have no idea what. In the case of a lock down, could be a gunman 2 miles away or could be roaming the halls.:confused3 Same with Disney rides...could be malfunction, could be a terrorist attack :confused3 Especially for *that* length of time. Wonder why they didn't announce what the problem was?

We got stuck on Spaceship Earth on the big incline in May. If it had just been DH and I , no big deal. But, we had our 2 year old- try telling a toddler that they have to stay sitting in an uncomfortable position. He was freaking out and we didn't have anything to calm him (we left our diaper bag in the stroller during rides). We were escorted off after about 10-15 minutes (i think)- but it sure felt a lot longer. It happens, but it certainly didn't help with the baby. Fortunately, it worked the next day when we rode!

There was a family a few cars behind us complaining the whole time about how Disney should compensate them for the inconvenience- they paid a lot of money for the vacation, and rides shouldn't get stuck. I was glad to get off, just so I didn't have to hear her anymore.

My boss went last year and got stuck on Space Mountain. They had to walk off the ride.

He said when they turned on the lights, it looked like after last call at a 1970's disco. It was the most gaudiest thing he had ever seen. He said he laughed so hard, it made the whole entire trip that much funnier!

You have to take things in stride.....personally I would have told my friend to lighten up a bit. There are worse things in this world to worry about.

I would hate to be with her if she ever got stuck on space mountain and the lights went on. SM with the lights on is NOT a pretty sight! It's happened to us a few times and we just look around and enjoy lol

What's to get freaked out about? Haunted Mansion is one of the coolest and least scariest rides to get stuck on..even if it is for an hour. Atleast is wasn't Tower of Terror or something...it could be worse!

But break downs happen a lot on those slow moving rides. It was probably just a simple ride malfunction. If it was something serious, they'd ask the guests to evacuate the ride.

Ha ha - I got stuck on ToT last December with my Sister, her DH, and her Daughter (who is a CM). We were just about to "drop" and the lights came on and we got the announcement not to get out of our seats or take our seatbelts off and then we hung there, and hung there some more, and hung some more and then without ANY warning after about 20+ minutes - we dropped and went back up and dropped and went all the way back up for about 5 minutes - definitely some type of glitch ... and then we got off and they said we could go back up and do the ride all over again if we wanted. My sister and I (both in our mid 40s and afraid of heights) said no FREAKIN way are we doing it again!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: But when I go back in September, if my DH wants to go on this I will !!! ha ha:lmao::lmao: Now that I think about it, my sister being more scared than I was is what made it even funnier!

I would have LOVED to have been on that ride! At last, a CM stepping up and enforcing the policies put in place to make WDW an enjoyable experience for all....hope that dork with the camera learned a valuable (and probably expensive) lesson. :)

We were stuck on HM for 15-20 mins a couple of years ago. We were in the tombstones scene and I didn't like the loud noises around me. Next thing I know, DBf pulled out his cell phone and started playing 2 players golf video game on his phone with his best friend who was sitting in the doombuggie behind us. His little trick distracted my attention from the fact that we were stuck on the ride. :thumbsup2

We got stuck for 30+ min on POTC once at the point in the begining that you hear "dead men tell no tales". I'd be happy now if they took that phrase out of the ride, I have heard it enough for everyone!

Try getting stuck on It's a Small World, then you can freak out, anyone that has to hear that tune for more than 10 minutes at a time should get free FP for the entire trip!

I must have been on the boat with you!! We were stuck for about 20 minutes at this part - it is pitch black and I had DD3 with me. I distracted her by looking at photos on the camera.

Those words haunt me now!!:lmao:

i have gotten stuck on that too

My son (5 at the time) and myself were stuck on Buzz Lightyear for about 15 minutes. They left the guns on though.

TOP SCORE!!

If I was stuck on a ride for over an hour, I would not be happy. I think the OP's friend had every reason to freak out. It sounds like she does not visit often, it is the busy summer season and she had a child with her. I had to plead with DS(6) to ride HM. He did not like it at all-it was scary to him. He would have totally freaked out if we were stuck on it for 10 minutes much less an hour. And you freak out when your kid freaks out. To have CM's running around would be a little concerning also. A little communication would have been nice and I see no reason why the people could not have been let off the ride. That's a long time to just sit there.

It would not ruin my vacation but I can see calling a friend and telling them about it.

That's the only way I'd ever get a good score. That sounds like a ride that would be okay to get stuck on for a short amount of time.

The only one I've gotten stuck on was Spaceship Earth...for about 15 minutes or so?

We got stuck on HM once, right in front of the talking heads, who kept talking. At first it was funny but after 30 minutes of listening to those heads, I was ready to step out of the car and beat the snot out of them.
