Haunted Mansion problem today

Honestly, being stuck on HM wouldn't be that bad;excepet if you have someone waiting for you outside and wondering why you aren't coming out. I would have probably taken a nap in the nice AC.

When I was 5 I got stuck at the very top of a double farris wheel. I can't remember how long exactly, but a nasty storm came in, strong winds with black clouds. The tornado sirens were going off the damn thing was swaying sideways in the rain :scared1:

Last year I went on a smaller wheel at Dollywood and started to have a panic attack. I kept my eyes closed and said I would never ride another one again!!!!!!!!

To this day, I get goosebumps just loooking at one.

they FREAK OUT way to easy.

Exactly. :thumbsup2

"I'll never go on that ride again. Hmmph" :snooty:

Rides break down. It happens. Its not the end of the world. I was once stuck on Dinosaur for about 20 minutes in the pitch dark. It was kind of creepy. But as soon as I get back to Animal Kingdom, I'll be on that ride like white on rice.

:rolleyes1

Always go to the potty before going on a water ride ;) My poor mom...we got stuck on POTC for about 15 minutes near the ships. She was beginning to wonder if we would ever get out. Also have been stuck on Its a Small World...and that's not a ride to be stuck in.....I think that was 20 minutes. That surprised me with HM. They should have just escorted people out to the nearest exit. I've never heard of people being left on a ride over an hour.

Then there was Test Track, we were stuck in the heat erosion room. Can you say HOT? That was only about 15 minutes, but seemed longer than Splash in that particular area.

Oh dear, that's my fear everytime I go through that area!! It's a scarier thought than any coaster I could imagine! I hate being hot.

Being stuck on a ride for an hour with a 5 year old is painful in any situation. They should have at least been given Fast Passes.

First thing I considered reading this was perhaps a guest was in need of medical assistance? maybe that's why CM's ran through the ride. CM's are on camera's that are posted all through the ride.

Perhaps it wasn't really a full hour either.. I've been stuck on POTC and Monorail for almost 45 minutes each time and I could SWEAR to you that it was like 1 1/2 hours or more but reality was that it was much less time. Also got stuck on TOT just before I was to "drop" in pitch black for quite sometime until the house lights came on and a CM had to come up and manually unlock our car and walk out down and out of service elevators.

These things happen, not a traumatic event. I hope everyone was ok on the ride that day.

One of the trucks ahead of us stalled out. We then had to sit there for 20 minutes until they could get it out of the way. Between the spot it was at and the animals, it apparently took a little while. It would have actually been pretty cool, but we were stuck in spot where there was nothing to look at. Even our driver was about to lose it from boredom.

That happened to DS4 and my grandparents while my mom and I were riding EE. We were supposed to meet at Nemo, but they didn't show. When we called, they were just getting off KS (this was, like, an hour and a half later). I thought maaaybe it was a long line, but they said something had happened with the elephants.

We got stuck on HM once, where that incessant knocking occurs. Thank goodness it was only for about five minutes! I can't imagine being stuck for an hour. I'd give the family a break. Yes, rides break down, but people can freak out for different reasons. Maybe the kid was scared, maybe mom was thinking the worst, etc., etc., etc. Most people's 10-20 minutes stories really don't compare to an hour.

We got stuck on the HM in Disneyland and had a blast! Granted it was for about 15 mins as some idiot decided to get off the ride..........:sad2:

My 5 year old rides HM but is still scared during it, and being stuck that long would be really hard for her. I do find it really strange that they let the guests sit there for that long. :confused3

I would hate to be stuck that long with a 5yo. My kid would probably have to pee at exactly that moment. Of course it wouldn't stop me from riding again. She probably just said that in the heat of the moment since she's having a bad day, I'm sure she'll ride again.

LOL! OMG I don't think I could stand getting stuck on SW, that would be torture :rotfl:

[Try getting stuck on It's a Small World, then you can freak out, anyone that has to hear that tune for more than 10 minutes at a time should get free FP for the entire trip!
[/QUOTE]

Uh this would be me! We were stuck on Small World because they were loading a wheelchair on, and it got stuck. I heard that song over and over for about 30 mins. Thankfully, my 4 kids were entertained but kept asking when we would move. :scared1:

OK, now that is a totally acceptable freakout moment. Gives me the willies just thinking about that.

The scariest ride I've ever been on was at Navy Pier in Chicago. They have a huge ferris wheel that we rode one time at night in the dead of winter and it was snowing and blowing. I was terrified because it moves really slow and it felt like it had stopped when we were on the top an I was thinking how in the heck are they going to rescue us?

I just hope the OP's friend has a good rest of her vacation.

I think its all a matter of perspective. We've been stuck on several rides the longest being POTC. I take it in stride and sometimes have enjoyed it as I've gotten to see more detail - especially when they had to walk us out of a ride :goodvibes. However, I can understand someone who is there on a once in a lifetime trip with maybe only one busy day at MK freaking out. It would be a disappointment to lose over an hour when there's not enough time to see what you want to see anyway.

I guess I feel kind of the same way, I don't even know how many times I have been stuck on Test Track from a couple of seconds to well over an hour... I think it's so fun! I feel like I know this ride so well now.

I'm going to start thinking that I'm one of the lucky WDW visitors!:thumbsup2 I have only been on one ride when it stopped. That was Test Track and we were only stopped for about 2 minutes and thank goodness it was just after we left the heat chamber!!! We have been stopped on HM and SE before, but it was just those short stops they make to accomodate someone in a wheelchair.

The only way I could take the same spot in any ride for longer than about 20 minutes would be if they turned the ride audio off. I can't imagine listening to the same sentence or sound effect over and over for an hour or more!
Another lucky person here..I've never gotten stuck on a ride-or been walked off of a ride either. Oh great, I've just cursed my next trip by posting this!:scared1:;)

My guess is that it was probably nothing serious. Haunted Mansion has mats all throughout the attraction, that if something were to drop (i.e. a bag, camera, etc.) the ride would stop instantly. Depending on how long it would take to find the problem and have maintenance clear the attraction, and how busy the attraction was, could determine whether or not the ride would be evacuated. Managers would have the last say. If something were to happen, such as a medical emergency, cast members wouldn't fully know until that person reached the unload area of the ride. If it were an emergency situation the ride would definitely be evacuated, so as to have engineers look over the ride to see if it were a ride related situation or not. Cast members running is probably due to them having to reach certain areas to talk to the stranded guests, as well as find whatever may have flagged the sensors and caused the ride to stop, also because it is such a lengthy attraction. For instance, at TTA, cast members always tend to run on a downtime because the track is so long...

I'd kinda like to get stuck in there, given long enough I might finally manage to get a half decent (non-flash of course!) photo in there!!!

Why are they freaked out? Inconvenient yes, freak out No.

Now "it's a small world" should probably have some sort of support group.
