Haunted mansion. People do this?!

Huh, I never thought of that. Time to go change my will...:rolleyes1

Seriously, though, maybe not the whole urn-full, but a little sprinkle?

I have already instructed my DH and DD to deposit my ashes at WDW. I want some to go in the lake at the Wilderness Lodge, some to go in the fountain at Epcot, some to be sprinkled in the moat around the castle, and some to be sprinkled on the grounds of the Beach Club. That should about cover it.

Maybe they could put tomstones in the Haunted Mansion Cemetery, but I would bet they would require that they would fit in with the other tombstones that Disney has in there now. People would have to make up something to go with their name or how they died:

Here lies Jake
He was burned at the stake
They sprinkled his ashes on this ride
It was his last request before he died

I had never even thought of people doing this. I dont guess it bothers me as long as I never touch or step into the ashes.....ew.

Well, I've never read that before, but I did read & never commented about someone going to the Poly & bringing their fathers remains....my assumption is that they were going to spread the ashes someone there-I think this is totally WRONG. My kids along with myself walk the beach & grass barefoot from time to time & the thought of that freaks me out. We just came back & we did no barefoot walking this trip. I think if this is something that happens & Disney knows it they should have certain places for it-I'm sure it's tough to control but I think that it is a bit inconsiderate to do. I love Disney but I think it's just wrong. My opinion!

Something interesting to note is that folks dump ashes everywhere. In the ocean, in lakes, on beaches, in parks, etc. With the airflow systems on attractions and frequent rain in FL, I doubt there is anything to worry about. I think part of the deal when you scatter your loved one's ashes is that they do exactly that, scatter. So the likelihood of stepping on a pile of them has got to be really small. Don't let the possibility of this ruin your fun of a lovely barefoot walk on the beach at the Poly! :)

If I could be scattered, I think I'd also choose the water around Cinderella's castle.

Here lies my mother Mary
She was a big fan of the Disney fairies
We took her ashes in a can
And deposited them with Tink on Peter Pan

Here lies my beloved brother Bob
He killed himself when he lost his job
He left his ashes with his next of kin
So we sprinkled him on Space Mountain

Some people don't seemed to be bothered by this, but if I was the worker & I came across them I'd dump them in the nearest garbage-now if Disney has a place for them then that's where people should put them. I have nothing against people wanting to be there forever-heck I'd like it myself but let's face it people go there for vacations & not to stumble across another persons remains.

I want to say there is some kind of specific way to dispose of those "finds." Like, technically, anything that has come in contact with blood is supposed to be disposed of in a specific manner (so those dealing with the garbage don't come in contact with it), so it probably doesn't go into a garbage can.

:rotfl: You could be the first tombstone imagineer!

OK, one more...

Here lies my ol' friend Dave
The Haunted Mansion was his fave
We put his ashes in a bottle of soda
And left them with Madame Leota

I'm not sure about human remains, but my dog has pieces of bone-& chunk-like stuff. I just don't like the idea of guests coming into contact with that-I think there should be places to put them, lake, urn whatever-but on the beach or ground where people walk or sit-YUCK! (I'm sure this discussion isn't much off of the vomit issue either-although you can't help where that happens sometimes!)

LOL....the "kin" and "mountain" was a stretch but still gave me a chuckle...

As for being grossed out by the possibility of walking across someone ashes, nah....I'm more grossed out by the overly used and not as often laundered bedspreads/blankets in the hotel rooms. But...to each his own.

That was EXCELLANT! I have been telling my kids for years to scatter my ashes in the moat around the castle, but I had NO idea so many other people had the same idea!

Cremains are sterile. The cremation process is done at extremely high temperatures (1500+ degrees)...so any cremains that are found are probably safer to touch than most of the trash that someone would find! Any blood and disease has been burned off by the time the process is complete (and actually, most diseases die WITH the body anyways, even HIV...because there's no host left)

And to the person who said Disney should have a cemetery or something...I COMPLETELY agree! Maybe not a cemetery specifically (because of zoning and space issues) but they should make a pond or something somewhere that is designated for people to scatter cremains. A lot of people do it anyways-why not have a specific place for it so people don't get upset?

Disney has been missing a HUGE opportunity for profit, by not building a Disney Cemetery. :)

Forget the cemetery. They could do a Columbarium. The church I work for just finished one in our Memorial Garden, and a small one can hold the ashes of 64 people. They could set a couple of much larger ones up outside the Haunted Mansion, in the spooky garden area, or even outside the exit, and sell the slots for booku bucks. They could even give that money to charity to make it a win-win for everyone:

Family Member/Guest - Honors the wishes of the Deceased

WDW - Brings people to the parks, lets final wishes be honored safely and humane (compared to dumping ashes on rides), looks good PR wise to consumers, plus it adds authentic heebe jeebes to the attraction :rotfl2:

Charities - If Disney gave proceeds to charity, they stand to profit quite a bit since this is a recurring thing

No worries here either. I agree be respectful to others. Dumping them on the floor is just odd! But a sprinkle in the flowers or in the grass or water is no problem with me.

There is no blood, even flesh... or even really ashes for that matter. It's crushed bone fragments that have had every little bit cooked out of them, and the have been pulverized to look like ashes. Not that is still didn't used to be a love one and all, but it's just not that 'yucky' to me.

There's more DNA on the beach from skin falling off of peoples feet than there would be if you dumped a whole urn there. And on a sweaty park bench or hand rail, etc...

Hey-who wouldn't want to "buried" at a Disney park???

But scattered on the floor-come on, you know that floor gets swept, vacuumed or mopped.

I would prefer to be scattered among the beautiful flowers and trees. Canada would be nice but I really would not be picky.

Haven't read through the entire thread already, so maybe this has been said, but the dumping/improper disposal of humain remains (including ashes) is a criminal act in Florida. Might even be a felony. I can go back and "dig up" the statute if anyone wants me to.

That's why I'm going to make sure to leave bail money for my loved ones along with my strict instructions to scatter me at Splash Mountain. Zip-a-dee-do-dah.... :rolleyes1

I'm not going to lie, my mom told me to spread her ashes somewhere in WDW... she said she'd prefer to be in the Haunted Mansion, Pirates or the World Showcase Lagoon. I told her that HM would probably be swept up and in POTC she'll just get filtered out and go to the sewer... :upsidedow
