Haunted mansion. People do this?!

And to the person who said Disney should have a cemetery or something...I COMPLETELY agree! Maybe not a cemetery specifically (because of zoning and space issues) but they should make a pond or something somewhere that is designated for people to scatter cremains. A lot of people do it anyways-why not have a specific place for it so people don't get upset?

Hmmmm, this conjures up all sorts of weird visuals in my mind.....

Would they build a themed queing area, and if so, what??? And would they post waiting times out the front?? :rolleyes1

OMG talk about funny me and my daughter had this conversation in hte car today. We just recently had a death in the family and I was telling her that I wanted to be cremated she then turns to me before I have a chance to say anything else and say that if I say I want my ashes spread at Disney I had better leave her plenty of money as well. Some to pay for a nice long vacation for her and the rest to pay her bail when she is arrested for spinkling me on the flowers.:rotfl2:

Yes, and tombstones. I'd want Figment on mine. I could see people ordering Jack, HM ones, and other sorts of characters or themes. Even Mr. Toad like the one in the pet cemetery they have at the exit. Have I put too much thought into this?

While it is not at Disney, my mom passed away a year ago today and I had Mickey heads engraved on her headstone. She would have loved it, because WDW was her favorite place and Mickey was her favorite.

I think Disney would definitely have a market.

I'm not going to be cremated so they can just drop my stiff body into Splash Mountain and use me as another log.

Oh, and for those people who were mean while alive, they will get placed in Stitch's Great Escape or Sounds Dangerous.

Honestly people, you're dead, it makes no difference where you are placed.

Personally I find no problem with Disney if they made a designated area. I joke with my fiance all the tiem that when I am dead and gone he can sprinkle me at the happiest place on Earth --- he prefers a baseball field.
That being said, it is not becoming an uncommon practice for companies to build crypts for fanatics. See the following articles:

ok, it won't let me post these links, but just put an h t t p : / / w w w dot infront of it, and you get the idea.

So it really isn't that unheard of.

...and a ghost may follow you home, or the charred remains of Uncle Ned. Yikes

I think it's selfish and disrespectful to the living. There was an article I had read some time back where someone dumped the ashes on one of the fast moving rides and it ended up in the face of a little girl and another guest.

I really wish that this board had a "reputation" feature. I'd sign up to give you double rep for these. Excellent ghost writing baketank!

Maybe they could put tomstones in the Haunted Mansion Cemetery, but I would bet they would require that they would fit in with the other tombstones that Disney has in there now. People would have to make up something to go with their name or how they died:

Here lies Jake
He was burned at the stake
They sprinkled his ashes on this ride
It was his last request before he died

Here lies my mother Mary
She was a big fan of the Disney fairies
We took her ashes in a can
And deposited them with Tink on Peter Pan

Here lies my beloved brother Bob
He killed himself when he lost his job
He left his ashes with his next of kin
So we sprinkled him on Space Mountain

OK, one more...

Here lies my ol' friend Dave
The Haunted Mansion was his fave
We put his ashes in a bottle of soda
And left them with Madame Leota

...and a ghost may follow you home, or the charred remains of Uncle Ned. Yikes
In your hair, on your clothes, on the stroller, lol.

A trail along the doombuggy tracks? I guess they were hoping granny'd find her way or something. IIRC, someone posted an incident at the HM in the last few months. I'll try to find it.

ETA/Found it: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2234793
I wonder if something similar happened? The OP's friend was stuck in her doombuggy for an hour and the CM's were "running past the seats."

I'm not against cremation or scattering remains, but on private property, that's just wrong. I know that asking Disney is a waste of time, but it's still wrong to dump Uncle Ned without permission. Causing the ride to be stopped is selfish and inconsiderate.

I've been thinking..wow..are you kidding me?
Nope. Not kidding at all. When my best friend trained at the HM she had to "run an intrusion" (meaning someone -- or something -- tripped an alarm inside the ride). The culprit was, you guessed it -- human ashes.
Disney has been missing a HUGE opportunity for profit, by not building a Disney Cemetery. :)
I could be wrong, but I don't believe the company has any interest in building a cemetery on-property.
From what I have heard (rumor only) Disney does not clean up ashes and put them into a landfill. I heard that there is a special protocall for handling this type of cleanup.
Human remains are treated like biohazardous material (like spilled blood). Disney has biohazard refuse bins that contaminated materials are deposited in.
Cremains are sterile. The cremation process is done at extremely high temperatures (1500+ degrees)...so any cremains that are found are probably safer to touch than most of the trash that someone would find! Any blood and disease has been burned off by the time the process is complete (and actually, most diseases die WITH the body anyways, even HIV...because there's no host left)

I agree that the "cremains" are sterile, and treating them as biohardous material may seem like overkill... but I think that may be done because the alternative (tossing them in a dumpster) is seen as less respectful.

Personally, I think disposing of someone's remains in a theme park is inappropriate.
Human remains in an amusement park?
See, this is my point exactly. I understand that millions of folks around the globe have a strong emotional attachment to WDW -- but there are plenty of other places around the worls that are much more appropriate. Me, I plan on having my ashes sprinkled in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin, Ireland.
OMG someone did NOT do that! NO WAY!
Someone did. Way.

We were with my little nephew on his first trip and we brought him to Epcot. He said, " The ball is cool but why'd they put a cemetery at the entrance.' meaning
the Leave a Legacy granite monuments!

Have you ever been to Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans? There are some of the most gorgeous mausoleums I have ever seen.

Sorry, it's late and I thought that I had linked the 2 posts.

Ok I came across this today looking for something else and I wanted to share it here. I've been thinking..wow..are you kidding me? I mean, I'm starting to not be shocked by much of what people try in the parks anymore. But this kinda creeps me out.
Discuss please...

we were there May 15, but did not ride HM (DD too scared). OMG, if I ever told my mom this she would NEVER ride it again, and this is one of her favs.

It is true. They have to bring a hazmat team in when someone dumps ashes inside of an attraction, most commonly of course inside HM. There was a case a few years ago at Disneyland of someone seen dumping ashes into the water inside POTC. The ride was shut down and the police were contacted, but they determined that any ashes were dissipated in the water and did not pose any threat to guests, so they opened the ride back up. I think people who do this are selfish, especially in cases where a ride has to be shut down. Also they are not very bright, because Disney puts cameras everywhere, and has CM's check the side of the ride. If they see any powdery substance that does not belong, they call in the hazmat crew, who vacuums it up inside of a special hazmat vacuum. The ashes are disposed of inside of a landfill. I watched a TV show about this once, it showed the guys in yellow hazmat suits going in with a vacuum. It asked "And where do the ashes end up?" and the scene changed to a landfill. They went on talking to some CM's who talked about how sad it was that people would do this, and ultimately have their mother's remains dumped into a landfill.

I didn't realize this happened at all, much less so often.

Cory Doctrow actually wrote an article about this for boingboing back in 2007.

http://boingboing.net/2007/11/13/cremation-ashes-at-d.html

I don't have a problem with the disposal of the ashes, but do think there ought to be a place designated for them. Personally, it would bother me less knowing that someone had dumped ashes into the Seven Seas Lagoon than it would having someone on the ride in front of me dump ashes.

I probably would be irritated if they flew in my face on a fast ride, but any other situation wouldn't bother me. But then again, I used to work at a cemetery, so I'm used to that kind of thing. I actually would love to buy a little place for my cremains to go after I die at WDW. It's my favorite place, it's the only place that makes me happy. Why wouldn't I want to spend eternity there?

I want to say there is some kind of specific way to dispose of those "finds." Like, technically, anything that has come in contact with blood is supposed to be disposed of in a specific manner (so those dealing with the garbage don't come in contact with it), so it probably doesn't go into a garbage can.

My guess is the fire took care of this problem,:wizard:
