Has the price of DCL chased you away?

I figured if you had a review up somewhere I would take a look. Thanks for the offer though. We are looking 5 years out at this point to our 25th anniversary. Because in theory our DD will have been out of college at least a couple of years and we will be free of those payments, so we could splurge again on a nicer cruise.

What had gotten me interested in those rooms, was seeing them across the dock when we were on the Freedom, they looked pretty cool. They also sound more reasonable than some of the suites on the new Celebrity Edge. We just booked an inside on the edge to get on the ship and see what it is all about. Having a kid in college really puts a damper on cruise planning;)

That's why I booked one too. I was intrigued. I also liked that it had 2 full bathrooms, great when traveling with 3 teen girls. The bed up in the loft can be split into twins and the sofa in the living room is a double. I chose one that looked over the back of the ship. so we had wonderful ocean views but we could see the sports court, mini golf, flow riders and the zip line. If you looked down from our balcony you could see the Boardwalk and Aqua Theatre. Great for people watching.

I wondered about that double pullout couch. Is it just a pullout couch, like in some hotels (and not very comfortable)? There is no other bed? We have teen boys. They won't sleep together and I'm not going on a sleeper sofa that's thinner than a pancake.

I have teen boys. They don't like sharing a room much less a bed LoL. Traveling was so much easier when they were little. I'm leaving for WDW in 18 days and only taking one kid..problem solved.

The mattress seemed thicker than your standard pullouts. My daughter and her friend thought it was more comfortable than the pullout at the Embassy Suites we stayed at pre-cruise. My girls don't have a problem sharing a bed. My daughter and her friend who came with us have been sleeping over at each other's houses since kindergarten so they had no problem sharing a bed. For us at least, the second bathroom was way more important than separate beds.

Priced the Fantasy recently for my niece's graduation trip in June 2018. $9k+. Her step-dad looked at me in utter disbelief. $9k?!?! For just the cruise?!?? Yup. He said, "You pay this?" Uh, no. Not hardly. Even *I* wouldn't pay $9k for a basic 7-night Caribbean for 4 people. It's a matter of principle. I could but I won't. I'm not into being taken advantage of. ;)

And the Caribbean itinerary should be one of the cheapest!

If you've never been to those ports maybe it'd be worth it to someone. But if you've done all the ports multiple times...no stinking way.
I can't imagine paying that much for any cruise unless I was in Concierge. Our 9 day Baltic in a verandah room with free drinks and excursion credits is under 5k for the 4 of us.

What ship is that on again?

We've got 2 cabins on B2B Carnival Vista, southern and western Caribbean, 14 nights total and we're at $9500 including prepaid gratuity.

I should have said concierge or a 14 night cruise. I'm pretty sure 2 insides is always more then 1 verandah on Carnival since the third and fourth passengers are almost free. Just to get an accurate comparison to DCL if you would have gotten 1 verandah room what would it of cost? I'm guessing 14 nights on the Carnival Vista in a Verandah would have been less then the 9500. Maybe around 6- 7k for 14 nights vs 9k for 7 nights on DCL.

We are doing a Baltic cruise on the Getaway this summer.
Let us know what you think. I may cancel the Breakaway and do the WBTA on DCL. I'm just waiting to see what itinerary DCL has to offer. I should find out next month.

uhh its the disboards! Short answers are not excepted here. We want your full opinion! lol:tongue: We want details!!:D
Instead of long answer I got, "shoot, is that the time? I have to go pick up the kids!" Anyway...longer answer is:

Spring break 2016

Disney Fantasy, 7 days, minimum $8500 Cdn for four in cheapest inside cabin
Norwegian Breakaway, 7 days, $7500 Cdn for four in gorgeous Haven one bedroom suite with private restaurant, pool area and sundeck, butler service, dedicated check in and all kinds of other perks.

And to top it off the kids liked the NCL kids clubs better.

I'd love to cruise Disney again but I just can't justify the cost. In 2012 when we started Disney cost about 25% more than other lines. Now it's at least double for the same cruise in a similar cabin. It's also much easier to find sales and discounts on other lines if you know where to look. And there are some amazing new ships out there. So we left Disney after four cruises for multiple reasons but cost is probably the main one. Still love cruising disney, just not enough to pay for what they're asking now.

I will let you know. We don't sail until late August, but will be spending 5 days in Paris before the cruise and 3 days in Berlin after.

Breakaway

Wow, I didn't know they did the Baltic. We took her to Bermuda last year and really liked the ship. Your costs for the Baltic are amazing. Let me know if you like the ship.

I am very curious as to how other lines compare overall. We really want to do Alaska and I hear princess is truly the way to go but worried my kids will not enjoy it. My friend did a HAL cruise in northern europe and her kids loved it. So many decisions and not sure if we are ready to venture and try other lines yet.

Both Princess and HAL get high marks for their Alaska cruises and land tours. We did HAL for ours and loved it and it was about $4,000 or so cheaper than what Disney wanted (and HAL and Princess do Glacier Bay)! I knew I didn't want to miss Glacier Bay because if I was travelling across the country for this cruise that was one thing I wanted in my itinerary.

I can tell you that Princess is an amazing ship. It's the only cruise line my parents would take when I was growing up and I did the Alaska as a kid. I had a blast, love the teen club on the ship. I am a totally Disney fanatic and loved sailing on the Disney cruise line, but wouldn't hesitate to sail Princess again.
