Has Anyone Tried to Use Points from Their Resale Contract to Book at Restricted Resorts (Riviera, Fort Wilderness, etc.)?

Yes, there will unfortunately be some people who make reservations through a lack of awareness of the rules, and hopefully Disney will show some lenience (although separating the honest mistake from the system gamers might be difficult). My point was specific to those people who DO know the rules but will whine if their reservation gets cancelled.

If you know about resale I’d say that there are a 99% or more that you know about the restrictions.

If you are referring to me, when I modified an existing reservation, the system used the original points for the new Riveria reservation. If I had swapped out points, the original points would have gone into holding. And honestly, I wasn’t thinking that what I was doing wasn’t allowed - the DVC system allowed it.

I have other points that can be used for the reservation if DVC calls - that isn’t an issue. Points going into holding is an issue. And DVC allowing the points to be used in the first place is also an issue.

You're new here. This kind of stuff pops up EVERY time there is a glitch of some sort in the system. Been like that for years.

Even after the mess up and supervisor involved, he explained to me that absolutely cannot happen ever right now because of restrictions, it's not allowed even though he wanted to, he was very adamant, and he put our bcv waitlist as a VIP priority because that was the best he could do given the restriction rules.

This might even mean they then need to bump a direct owner to another resort like OKW?

i don't think this sounds very sustainable from an operations perspective.

I just can't believe a members services agent would offer us this knowing full well we are new resale members.

It did irritate me because we did get excited even though we know we dont qualify, it was offered, promised and a hold was placed. I really wish it was never offered and feel like all cast members and systems should be on the same page with this....

I’m not understanding what you mean. They wouldn’t bump nor be allowed to bump anyone who booked using valid points somewhere else to give that room to someone else.

What they would need to do is cancel someone who did use the wrong points or, if they can’t figure out how to do that…then that person would most likely being given a room elsewhere using DVCs own points.

They did offer to pull reservations for us from other resorts we qualify for and we were able to get grand floridian 1 bedroom which i did appreciate and they pixie dusted our bcv waitlists to help them go thru instead so yes I think this is just about right ️

They shouldn't be bumping any reservations for this. They pull rooms out of inventory ahead of booking so rooms don't get booked if they are going to be worked on during a refurb.

There's always unplanned maintenance and unexpected changes to plans (i.e. a refurbishment runs longer than expected)

They often pull more rooms than needed for refurbs, then will add them back in for booking once they are more sure of their timeline. That is when some members will report large blocks of rooms coming up for booking within the 11 month window.

For smaller issues, Disney has at least 2% of points for every resort owned by themselves, so there should be a few rooms to move members to in most small instances

DVC owners have been bumped to WDW resorts. So, I don’t think it would ever matter because DVC has lots of options.

Oh yeah that's true too. I do remember seeing some threads where members were moved to different resorts and to the hotel side instead of the DVC side

Actually, they don’t. 100% of rooms are open for booking. DVD can sell no more than 98% of the resort so that there are extra points in the system, attached to rooms, for things like that.

But that doesn’t mean they actually pull the rooms each day. There is always wiggle room with points that don’t get booked etc

Did you quote the wrong response of mine? I was talking specifically about during a refurb in that one. It does make sense that they would have to have 100% of the rooms normally up for booking.

But are you also saying that they also DONT pull rooms out of the booking program when they do refurbs? Because I swear I have always read that they do. Because way more than 2% of the resort may be closed at a time for a refurb and that would cause a lot of problems and members that need to be moved

I was saying this within the context of the poster that was offered a 2-bedroom at Riviera even though they have restricted-use points, implying that even DVC can’t bend the restrictions when it suits them. So if there’s unplanned maintenance, they might not be able to put a resale owner into OKW. They might have to find a direct owner to bump. Or they’d simply offer a room on the hotel side. But it does seem like they have one less tool available to help in those situations.

Happened to me on my last trip. Got bumped from a Grand Villa to a club level Presidential Suite.

They can bump me to that suite whenever they want….
