Has Anyone Tried to Use Points from Their Resale Contract to Book at Restricted Resorts (Riviera, Fort Wilderness, etc.)?

As above, everyone’s resort agreement states that post 2019 resale points cannot be used to book restricted resorts. So it breaches the terms of everyone’s agreement with DVC.

However, I agree with you that it only adversely affects certain owners and would be beneficial for others. A breach nevertheless (although post 2019 resale owners unlikely to complain about it)
Fair enough. I will concede the wording was used correctly.

Just to be fair, if DVC comes back and tells me they have updated the agreement, and eliminated them, I would have no issue with it.
We all know that isn’t going to happen.

There is too much money to be made by allowing people to temporarily or permanently “wash” points….. and Disney needs money because the cost of all of their proposed theme park expansions just went up by a lot…. and apparently EPIC has reset the bar….

Not to mention that would be one of the hugest slaps in the face to people who bought directly from Disney..

If not. I take it further and file a complaint. Some may be okay with them dong this on the sly because they see it as a benefit for many owners at the detriment of RiV, VDH and CFW owners.

But I am not okay with them deciding to change things in a way that they are not allowed to do it.

As I said, this is a slippery slope if it’s intentional and what’s next?

Again, one thing I am consistent on is holding DVC to a set standard whether its impacts me positively or not.

But I believe with 99.9999% confidence that this is most likely due to human error with coding.

I would be careful about getting excited about a possible Riv reservation as resale.

We are resale and we were actually promised a 2 bedroom riviera room for September during the maintenance fiasco i called member services and a member services agent told us they have been putting holds on reservations (same thing as a guide hold) for people because of them losing reservations due to the maintenance issues.

Since we wanted bcv and its not fully available, the agent told me she would put me in something closest to BCV and she said "Do you want a 2 bedroom villa at Riviera?" She was fully aware that we were all resale.

I thought it was weird, but of course I said sure and she put the hold and told me to call back as soon as my akv resale membership processed so they could put it on that membership because blt resale didn't have enough points left. Because of this I ALMOST cancelled the studio riviera we already booked renting someone else's points, but something told me not to. Thankfully I didn't. This riv reservation was completely her suggestion, I did not ask for this myself.

Well when the membership was processed and I called to tell them to book the hold, it was a no of course, apparently she "messed up" and should have never put that on hold for us.

Even after the mess up and supervisor involved, he explained to me that absolutely cannot happen ever right now because of restrictions, it's not allowed even though he wanted to, he was very adamant, and he put our bcv waitlist as a VIP priority because that was the best he could do given the restriction rules.

everyone is going to Universal, there is plenty of availability at Rivera since is still not sold out. They will take whatever they can get rn

I am curious to hear what response you get from dvc.
My account is showing a sold contract as well and points weird.

I have to call them to give further details. I didn’t have time tonight but the email also said there has been absolutely no change to resale restrictions so I replied with you need to get it fixed then because rooms are getting booked this way, albeit with borrowing involved and that means it is taking rooms out of inventory for those who have eligible points…l

I will for sure keep everyone posted.

Thanks for sharing. It definitely needs fixing and hopefully it doesn’t take as long as it did to fix the borrowing issue contracts had during the COVID years…which impacted more resale points than it did direct.

You're welcome!

I know they did some clean up yesterday, as most of my non eligible points now can’t book ie riviera.

However I just now found out that one of my non eligible points actually still can.

If I try to make a new 7 months booking these particular points are not eligible and won’t show up on the contract page. That’s how it should be.

BUT

If I make an 11 months booking at my own resort and then try to modify it afterwards to riviera for a 7 months booking then the contract mysteriously show up again. HOWEVER only the number of points used for my 11 months booking is available or can be seen.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Remember you most have at least one contract that’s eligible for restricted resorts as the option to book them otherwise won’t be shown.

I'm not having the same issues with contracts or points showing up or not showing up. I haven't tried booking at restricted resorts with resale points either. However, when I tried to go on the DVC website yesterday to look at my dashboard and points, I kept getting errors or the page would load up blank (all white). I couldn't see any information.

Tried different browsers, closing tabs/windows, etc. Nothing worked.

Very frustrating.

Just checked, and now all my contracts show up on the booking page for a new 7 month reservation!

so you can book riviera using restricted points, if you start with an 11 month booking and move it to riviera at 7 months out?
I booked riveria with restricted points by modifying a reservation made only a few weeks out from checkin. Was definitely not made at the 11 month mark or modified at the 7 month mark. Reservation is for next week. So far, so good. Reservation is still there.

I have a thought, but maybe everyone already thought of this.
There are different resale restrictions that were implemented different years.

One of my very old contracts (purchased 2015) is completely grandfathered in, blue card, I can use the points at any resort (including RIV, FW cabins etc) and can use for member extra perks.

One of my newer (purchased 2017) is white card, not eligible for perks, but can still book any resort (including RIV and FW cabins).

My newest (purchased 2024) is white card, most restricted, cannot book RIV or FW cabins (also not eligible for perks).

They all seem to be working as they should, my 2015 and 2017 are able to book RIV and FW cabins, even though my 2017 is white card, but this is as it should be based on when it was purchased.

My 2024 contract cannot currently book RIV or FW cabins, this is also correct, so I am not seeing the same glitch you are.

Am I understanding correctly?

I’m not starting with an 11 month booking… just going straight to 7 months. Yesterday they had all been removed as options, and now they seem to be back again, but not gone through the entire process of booking
