has anyone tried an "afternoon break" in a resort lobby???

Hi o sage DISers!

Wondering if anyone has tried an "afternoon break" in one of the monorail resorts (or WL) lobbies during a looong day at MK?

We are off-site and it's not practical for us to leave the bubble and try to get back.

Trying for RD (me, DH, DD8.5) but would also like to catch the evening shows. Is catching a drink/snack/snooze on one of those comfy-looking couches do-able or frowned upon? Thanks for the input!

When we took our family trip we were at AoA. We spent a couple hours at Poly for our lunch break. We didn't sleep on any couches, but we ate at the CS place and went in the shops...it was fun and relaxing. I like to visit other resorts.

Hi pampam, DD will be 8.5 years old by time of trip and looong since out of stroller. wish it were an option -- for all of us!

The WL lobby is huge and has nice comfy chairs, while I wouldn't recommend lying down on the couches, last trip DS, DIL and I rode the boat over there, walked around the grounds, grabbed a snack in the gift shop and sat in the chairs for a hour or so just reading and relaxing. I saw people actually changing clothes in the lobby of the GF while waiting on my Grand Tea ADR, I thought that was taking it a bit far since they do have bathrooms and I'm assuming some sort of bigger ones at the pool.

We spent an afternoon at the Contemporary once when it was raining. They had a great arcade (don't know if they still do) to keep my son busy and I got a coffee and sat on a couch and read my People Magazine. It was a nice break. But I had to move from the lobby area because it was our last full day and hearing people just checking in was making me sad, lol.

Definitely go, visit, and relax at one of the monorail resorts or WL but I wouldn't take a nap there. I've seen people flat out lying on the couches and sleeping on one floor of the Contemporary and I did a double take. It was kind of random and unsightly. I think if you want to go and nap, you should really just go back to your own hotel.

Yep - DH and I once took an extended break in the Grand Floridian lobby. Strolled around, listened to the piano player, rested on couches. We did not feel out of place at all.

This was what I was going to suggest. The lobby is beautiful and relaxing, and the grounds extensive enough to allow for a relaxing little stroll, a stop by the pool lounge for a cocktail and then inside to relax. We were staying at this resort, and enjoyed afternoons relaxing there. The pool bars have sandwiches and cold beverages, and offer plenty of outdoor seating. If the QS is open, I cannot remember when it closes for refurb, there is plenty of shaded outdoor seating that overlooks the marina. But that lobby! I would take my cocktail inside, and if our break was around 3 PM, listen to the Grand Pianist play his lovely tunes while enjoying the ambiance. You may see a Bride on one of the sofas, or little girls dancing in their own personal "ballroom".

Some of the ideas in this thread are starting to remind me of the Clampett Family moving to Beverly Hills.

Funny you said that since that was exactly what I was thinking when I saw the family changing clothes. I'm assuming they had been at the pool since they were in bathing suits so it didn't make sense to me why not just go to your room or if they were already checked out, why not go to the bathroom. Seriously, I've seen Mom's change kids clothes in public before but Mom and Dad were doing it too. Dad stood there without his shirt for a good 20 min and let me say, you really did not want to see Dad without his shirt. I wouldn't have done this at the pool much less the lobby of any resort.

I would totally stretch out on a couch in a quiet area. Or the floor in a quiet corner. It is allowed and if it is what you need to keep going without burning out it is a great option. I'd never change in the lobby though, most of those places have really nice restrooms

We did on our last trip kind of by accident - we were waiting to get into Trader Sam's and since we had a pager we were confined to the Poly lobby (both floors). We did a little shop-poking, but mostly just sat in the chairs and enjoyed the lobby. It was lovely there!

:scared:

I wouldn't have a problem with grabbing a drink from the bar or gift shop and sitting on a couch or chair in the lobby to relax for a minute. But I certainly wouldn't lay down on the couch or floor or camp out there for longer than 30 minutes.

An alternative idea if it's not too hot might be to find a quiet pool and relax on the loungers. You wouldn't be permitted to go in the pool, of course, but I don't see the harm in sitting in the chairs, especially if you buy a drink or snack there.

Sure do.

I have a drink at the CR sitting by the windows facing Bay Lake by Outer Rim bar... I have to do that every trip

Or just kick back and relax in my resort (WL) in the lobby people watching for a bit
