I agree with the Poly. And the ability to get a Dole Whip without waiting in that long line is a real attraction!

Those Dole Whips at Poly are so DELICIOUS!!! I would say this qualifies as a hidden gem!

And BTW, to the PP that stated the Poly "no longer has a beach" because of the DVC villas this is not accurate, the Poly STILL HAS a beach, it was just reduced to the area immediately in front of the main pool area..

I stay almost exclusively at deluxes and, quite honestly, I like seeing people use the lobbies! Isn't that what they are there for? To sit, relax and take in the ambience of the resort? How would a guest of the resort even possibly know who is staying at the resort and who isn't? While I don't really think it's appropriate to lay down on a lobby couch and take a nap, if you happen to fall asleep while sitting upright, why not? As another PP suggested, you could even find a lounge chair on one of the beaches and take a nap there (just make sure you bring sunscreen!)

All of the deluxe lobbies are great areas for an afternoon break with the exception IMHO of YC (too small) and BC (quite loud, though it may taper off in the afternoon when Cape May is closed). You can sit on the beach at BC though and BWI is a great place to take a break. They even have rockers in a shaded area by the Village Green. AKL, WL and any of the monorail resorts are fabulous too.

Years ago when we stayed at the GF main building I was really surprised at the amount of people that we would see sleeping on the couches in the lobby. This was mainly when we had breakfast in the club level and we would look down at the lobby and their were a lot of people sleeping on the couches! At the time thought it was really strange. That said now we stay at the BWI and there are a lot of places that you could relax in a chair for sometime without bothering anyone. On the lake side of the resort they have numerous different seating areas and some of them are even a little hidden and I don't think anyone would really even notice. We have seen people half asleep in these very comfy chairs on many a hot afternoon.

We loved doing this on our March trip. We stayed at POFQ and on our MK days took a "break" at either a monorail resort or WL. Enjoyed cocktails, A/C and lounge snacks.

You could always just ask a CM for the keys to the Castle Suite and zip up there for a quick refresh, too.

Wondering if anyone has tried an "afternoon break" in one of the monorail resorts (or WL) lobbies during a looong day at MK?

We are off-site and it's not practical for us to leave the bubble and try to get back.

Trying for RD (me, DH, DD8.5) but would also like to catch the evening shows. Is catching a drink/snack/snooze on one of those comfy-looking couches do-able or frowned upon? Thanks for the input!

We were forced to do it in our own resort (Contemporary) in July. We had returned to our room from the pool for an afternoon nap. Our chamber maid was in the middle of cleaning our room, so we needed a place to go. We went to the Contempo Café and relaxed for about 30 minutes because we had enough of the sun at the pool.

On our last day, after checking out, we went resort hopping to Polynesian where we had lunch at Captain Cooks, and a Dole Whip for dessert. We did some shopping too. Then we headed off to GF and lounged around in the gorgeous lobby. We shopped there as well and took lots of photos. It was relaxing and very low-key.

How far away is your hotel? Will you have a car? We typically stay "offsite," although WBC is right next to the CBR so it's really "onsite," but I digress! As long as you're driving, I think it's worth going back to the hotel. I don't think it's nearly as bad as many people make it out to be! Plus, it's so much more relaxing to take a quick dip and nap in your own space.

Definitely go, visit, and relax at one of the monorail resorts or WL but I wouldn't take a nap there. I've seen people flat out lying on the couches and sleeping on one floor of the Contemporary and I did a double take. It was kind of random and unsightly. I think if you want to go and nap, you should really just go back to your own hotel.

That would be ridiculous. I see nothing wrong with relaxing in a lounge; spending money in a restaurant and some shops; taking photos of the pretty scenery.

But, lying down or changing in a public area is a different matter altogether.

I have gone to a resort to rest up in the air conditioning and grab a coffee, I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I also don't really think leaning back and closing your eyes for a bit is really that big of a deal as long as you understand that you are in a hotel lobby and people very well might wake you up.

I do think sprawling out on a couch and actually laying down is a bit too far personally but other then a roll of the eyes I wouldn't waste much time worrying about what someone else is doing while I'm in a hotel lobby.

DH's parents invited us to stay at their time-share about 28 minutes away...we'll have a car, but i figure with traffic...not worth it to drive all the way back.

Shopping, grabbing a snack or getting a drink at the bar all seem fine to me. Resting/napping on the couches seems like it might be crossing a line IMO. With check in being 3 or 4 in the afternoon, the lobbies often seem busy in the afternoon. When busy, I think the lobby should be for resort guests waiting for a room or those waiting for an ADR. If the lobby is empty it is probably fine to sit down for a few minutes and relax but out of respect for those staying at the hotel I wouldn't rest in a crowded lobby if I were staying offsite.

Maybe my view is totally off base because several have posted that disney encourages people to use the hotels. I always assumed the ammenities were for guests and for others while spending money in shops and restaurants

That settles it. MK should open up a new land where we can rest. Design it with partly shaded area with benches, plenty of seating, spacious lawns, some trees to encourage songbirds, quite walkways. They could even call it by a restful name, something like Forest Lawn. Oh, sorry, that name is taken.
